Edgar ‘The Maestro’ O’Connor - World No.1 Male tennis player. He boasted a tall, athletic frame which he had built through years of being a tennis player. He had medium brown which he sometimes grew long enough in order to wear a headband, for the sake of style, and marine-like blue eyes he inherited from his mother . At the age of 28 he had won all the grand slams in tennis and was regarded as the greatest tennis player ever, despite not having retired yet. His all-round game was complete, his array of shots devastating and his style effortless. There had been a long tradition of tennis players in his family with his father, mother and grandfather all winning grand slam titles and various tour titles. While they didn’t force him to play the game they did push him towards the direction of the sport. He was last-born and his brothers and sisters hadn’t embraced Tennis, he felt a certain sense of pressure to continue the family legacy, pressure which increased as his potential to become a world-class tennis player increased during his life.
Indecision. Edgar wasn't sure what he wanted in life and this reflected in his sexuality. He loved women and he was married to a beautiful woman, partly because it was a good concept that everyone eventually did and he did want kids. Being married did not mean a lot to Edgar, for he’d rarely be able to spend time with his wife due to his profession meaning he had to travel around the world in order to play tour titles. He was essentially a single man but wouldn’t dare cheat on his wife for the risk of getting caught. There wasn’t even a ‘risk’, he would be caught due to his popularity – just like other sportsmen had been. And for someone who had an incredibly clean-cut image, which had won him several sponsorship deals, this would be damning.
He also loved men. Men. Or was aroused by them at least. He wasn’t quite sure. At some points in his life he had even began to entertain the idea of being gay, but the thought of breasts and being with a woman still aroused him. And whenever he had sex with his wife, it was enough for him to forget about men, until he went away for his next tournament. Throughout the history of the sport there had never been a gay male Tennis player. The media had spoken of someone needed to ‘sacrificing’ in order to open doors for other gay male Tennis players to come out or at least make it less of a taboo. Edgar wasn’t going to ‘sacrifice’ himself especially when he wasn’t sure. “I’m more bi-curious, if anything,” he frequently thought.
Edgar had never been with a man but as the years passed the urge had become stronger. When he watched porn he’d exclusively watch gay porn, straight porn aroused him somewhat but not to the level of gay porn. Perhaps it was because of how taboo it was, being from a family with strong Christian principles. He was disgusted with his thoughts when he went out in public and looked at men. Truth be told, he didn't find many men attract at all, nowhere near many as women anyway. Yet when he masturbated it was men who he thought of. He came to the conclusion that it was the taboo part of it he liked but, in truth, he would never be able to sleep with a man. His social conditioning from a young age had blocked his feelings of desire for men and he doubted he could ever overcome this. Getting married had only blocked any room he had to explore, he loved his wife and didn’t want to hurt her, not when he was in the spotlight.
