Anyone have story rejected lately?

Hi,
I have had my newest story rejected twice with the comment:

Did I check to make sure everything was spelled correctly?

yet, it has been spell checked a couple times and proofread by two editors. I am completely baffled. I asked after the first rejection for an explanation if it was rejected again and yet it was just rejected again with the same above message.

I am baffled as I had earlier stories allowed with a lot more mistakes before I had an editor and now that I have VERY good editors I have a story rejected.

Anyways, has anyone had this happen lately???

Do you copy and paste your submissions? If you do it other ways, it might be rejected just for spite, because it has to be read by an actual person.

I do copy and paste my submissions...so that isn't the problem...

I don't mean to complain, as I love this site...but I can't fathom why this has been rejected...
 
Nope, haven't had this happen.

Try refiling again with a note in the notes box that it has been rejected for spelling but, yes, you've checked the spelling and so have two editors--and to please specify what spelling is thought to be off. This will force an actual human editor to review it.
 
Thanks that is what I did...after the first rejection...thus why I am so confused. Hopefully, they will check it again...truthfully, I am dying to know what has thrown the system into confusion...

Now I find you confusing. "They" are not going to check anything again without having a transaction in front of them again. If you put a note worded as I suggested in the suggestion box on your second submission and it's been rejected again, the only human editor on Lit. still thinks there are spelling problems--and she's not going to go back in recheck it without being faced with a new transaction.

It might be time for you to share the story with someone else other than your editors to see if a third/fourth pair of eyes agrees that it has been spelled properly. (Are you using British spellings, incidentally?)
 
Thanks for the suggestions...I just resent it as an attachment which will make it be looked at by a human...

I have never had this happen before and actually never knew it was a computer that did the approval. Never put any thought into it truthfully...
 
As one of the copy editors involved, I saw two minor bloopers in the last version, but nothing that ought to cause rejection. As for British spelling, I think Silk is Canadian and uses the Canadian spelling, such as "colour" and "honour", but there are many UK and Commonwealth (if that term is still PC) writers whose work routinely gets posted without a blink. This is a new one on me, and I am perplexed.

I can see why non-American spellings should be OK here. And I hear you about some stories with these spellings getting through. But it remains that most having this problem seem to be British-system spellers, so I have a suspicion that some days the bot of this American Web site goes all American.

I still think we're talking at cross purposes here. The tried and true method I know of submitting is simply cut and paste of text into the text box and the simplist, most successful way I know of communicating with a human editor is in the comment box of that cut and paste submission style.

Two rejections seem like there being something wrong with what is being submitted the way it's being submitted.
 
British English

I've always used British English - probably something to do with where I was born, where I went to school, etc - and I've never had a story questioned or rejected. I'd be really surprised if that's the problem.

Certainly open to other theories of what the problem is. It's one that never seems to be pinned down.

The most logical ones are that the spelling in the original is noticeably not dictionary accepted (spell check is not reliable) or that the formatting is off--because the author has tried unsuccessfully to use something fancy rather than simple cut and paste into the text block--and, perhaps, has tried fancy styling that's totally unnecessary and not recognized by the Web site's checking systems.

I just took another look at the final version Silk sent me me for copy clearance, and there was nothing "that need long detain the tourist", as Baedecker (or was it Michelin?) used to say; no fancy formatting, not even any italics or underscoring. Silk used the latest version of Word for Windows, though, and I had to convert it to my old 2004 Macintosh version, but there's a freeware patch from Microsoft that does that. I can't believe that Word for Windows 2010 (or whatever the latest iteration might be) would cause a problem here. And I believe Silk submitted it as cut-and-paste and again as a Word file. Again, I can't make out what the problem is.

Silk said it was resent as "an attachment." I didn't read that as a cut and paste.

Would certainly like to see the followup on what the real problem was here. We rarely are told what really happened--and thus spin wheels on speculation.
 
i think i once had a story rejected for spelling, and it turned out that it was because i used many non-english words in it (like, having characters say things in different languages) - but that was no problem when i resent it and wrote in the notes that there are a lot of foreign quotes in there... it got accepted then.
 
No non-English words that I saw. Maybe the right thing to do is resubmit with an extensive Note, as sr71 suggested. I'd really like to know what happened.

I have resubmitted two ways:
1. Cut and paste again...with an extensive note...although that was what I did after the first rejection.
2. rich text file..also with a note...

So we will see. I also e-mailed them, but have yet to get an e-mail...

I am really curious as to the why...

Despite instructions, there is no evidence that the administrators read or respond to e-mails. It's one of the defunct functions that they are continually asked to activate or drop--but it's still there and nonfunctioning.

Submitting it twice will only confuse and jam up the system, I think.

SCOURIES SUGGESTION #4 – Why not give a detailed reason when you Reject a Story

I’ve had about 13 out of the 58 or so stories I’ve submitted to Literotica rejected. Some have been rejected up to five times! I’m always surprised when one is rejected. I think I understand Literotica’s rules and while I may not agree with them I do try to write my stories to conform to them. When a story of mine is rejected I rush to try and find the problem and correct it. My stories have been rejected for the following reasons:

*Poor Grammar
*Underage Characters
*Snuff Scene
*Wrong Category
*Bestiality

But when one of the censors rejects a story they don’t provide very specific details – instead there is a line that asks something like ‘is there an underage character in this story?’ or ‘is this in the right category?’ or ‘does this story include bestiality?’ Shit, if you’ve read the story and decided it needs rejection why not be a little more specific?

Strangely at least nine of the thirteen stories I’ve had rejected were subsequently accepted without me making any changes at all! I just resubmit them with a note like ‘I looked for the underage character and don’t believe there are any of them in this story– I’d be happy to change something if you have some specific problem – please advise’. One of two things happens; one, usually the story is accepted without comment, or two, it’s rejected again but with again no highlighting of the exact problem.

I believe it would save me time and worry, as well as save your censors time, if they were quite specific when they reject a story. Something like, ‘Sally is only 16 years old when she has sex with Arthur in the middle of page two in your story – this is unacceptable and must be changed,’ or ‘it is not okay for Sally to have vaginal/penile intercourse with the dolphin in the second paragraph’.

I’ll then be able to immediately address the problem instead of slogging through ten thousand words trying to figure out what I’ve done wrong.

So please, for all of our sakes, talk to your censors and get them to be a bit more specific in future. Thanks,

I have never heard of a story being rejected because of the wrong category. If they think the author's choice of category is wrong, they post the story in the category they think is right. This has happened to me about twenty times or so and, when I have objected, sometimes the story category is changed and sometimes not. :eek:

Well Boxy it did happen to me! It was the story that was rejected five or six times (for various perceived sins) before I finally gave up. While the PALACE never gave me a full explanation I did hear from various insiders that the QUEEN :cattail: simply didn’t like the subject matter (not the sexual parts) – it touched upon a sensitive area of the regal psyche.

Since Scouries claims he's being paid royalties for stories, he shouldn't be surprised to have ones rejected that Laurel doesn't want to pay for. :rolleyes:
 
Still waiting for a response or another rejection. I thought it would happen today...but it seems not.

I am as curious as I am baffled...and also slightly frustrated...ok quite frustrated...
 
Seems the story was accepted 5/22/11. Maybe the editors were making sure the rapture wouldn't happen, lest their efforts be wasted. Frivolity aside, I'd really like to know what Silk did to get the story published, or have the editors explain the hang-up.

It did go up, but no explanation was given unfortunately...

I sent it with comments for a second time and I also sent it with the same name but added the number 1 as an attached file...

The one that ended up published was the originall story and the attached file disappeared so go figure...I have no understanding why it was rejected twice and then submitted...

Anyways, hopefully that doesn`t happen again...but we will have to see when I release part 2 someday...
