The thing looks like someone shoved a big battery pack up its tailpipe. I'm officially calling it the Chevy Fat Ass.

I saw one today, in red. It looked ok. Wanted to roll down my window and ask the guy how it drove...

Contrary to my harping that a cars looks don't mean anything, I like a car that not only looks good but makes me look even better. The Volt is not that car.

these new cars have no soul, no presence on the road.
they're like comic-book cars.

A comic book car would be like the Batmobile. You saying the Batmobile has no presence on the road?

the batmobile is absolutely hideous.
someone here in oz actually built a replica, and apart from the fact that it looks silly, its ugliness is trully offensive.
i bet it drives like a wet flying carpet too.

Point is, ugly electric vehicles that cost more than their fossil-fuel counterparts will do nothing to drive the adoption of the former in the U.S.

GM should intern at Apple this summer.

The best way to sell an electric car is to never say it's an electric car. The idea of it is more than enough to turn most people away.

Prius owners say different. At least they don't drive something that looks like a fat cow on steroids.

That holds true only if electric vehicles remain a niche product. I don't think that's the intent here.

I think it holds true until people get over their fear and to do that they have to actually drive one and to get that to happen they need to be marketed properly. Right now the phrase "electric car" is not a good marketing tool.

I was just on Chevy site and most of their cars are in the same design vein as the Volt. Perhaps GM's issue is more basic and systemic.

I have bought exclusively Mercedes for several years now but if they go all electric like they want to, I'm done. I have nothing against an electric car but not my Benz. That's sacred.

Mercedes will not go all electric in your lifetime. That yellow SLS is all electric, but it's way too spendy and impractical. You might learn to like the odor of diesel, though.
