It would seem that the story side of Lit is having some problems...

I get a lot of 502 - bad gateway error messages or extremely long waits for the page to download...

:(

Mainly noticing it on things that are sort of on the outside of the general reading public, though. Story pages have been loading fine for me, and the main index, but peripheral stuff like the feedback portal, our author pages, sometimes our submission list from the readers side, etc. have been throwing gateway errors and running slow as hell when they aren't.

Might be that thieving bastard "Elizabeth Summers" and friends rummaging around, seeing what they can rip off and sell to Amazon, the on-line fence.

I've had no trouble getting to the forums, but have run into issues in pulling up the new stories list (I bookmarked it and go there directly), as well as my submissions page.

Yep, the story index is experiencing the same issues. That's a more critical part of the reader-side of Lit than anything else I've seen glitching so far.

I actually had a weird database error pop up on my own website while editing my blog a little while ago. It behaved similarly to the gateway error here, so maybe it is some sort of internet glitch going on...

Strange that it doesn't seem to be having any effect on forums, which are heavily database dependant, though. I haven't had glitch one on any of the forums I've been on today, which include several types of underlying forum software.

Maybe mine was just an unconnected hiccup, but Luna mentioned in the Earth Day thread that other sites were throwing up errors as well.

Hi there Sweetheart! Different Lit sights have all been running slow for me. Couldn't even get to my submissions page a few times.

I haven't been able to get into my submissions page since yesterday evening.

And the forum speed has been glacial for a very long time.

Same thing here. Additionally, when I got back in today, my stories all have fewer votes and my scores all went up. Not complaining, but I wonder what happened.

Totally unrelated.

Lit runs "sweeps" that remove votes considered illegitimate on occasion. Right now, there are sweeps running for the Earth Day contest, and those always hit hard. They not only get votes from contest stories, but others as well.

( The reason, I suspect, is that IPs are identified as problem voters, and votes are swept across the board for that IP when the pattern emerges, no matter when or where the vote was cast )

The only known criteria are votes from the same IP/ID -- multi-votes on the same story.

It has been confirmed that at least one type of sweep looks for votes wildly out of sync with the average ( usually, 1 votes, which are generally malicious ) and removes those as well.

The rest of the criteria are secret, because it doesn't make much sense to explain what you're looking for when removing votes. That's like putting an expensive security system in your house and then posting a wiring diagram on a billboard in the front yard :p

It's been happening to me once and a while too. Only for the forum though, I've never noticed a problem with the stories.

The forum has been wonky as long as I've been here. It's the youngest child, getting all the hand-me-downs and having to fight for playthings against many larger, older siblings. Not all that important to the site from the business side of things.

If it had any impact on the bottom line, they would have depopulated the area of numerous posters who engage in nothing but asshattery long, long ago.

Makes sense as my numbers got a big bump without losing that many votes. They must have been 1 votes. Works for me.
