Obama Makes Super False Tax Claim:
“I didn’t raise taxes once”
In pre-Super Bowl interview, President Obama fumbles his record on taxes
WASHINGTON, D.C.— On Sunday, in a live, nationally televised interview just prior to the Super Bowl, President Obama made the following claim:
“I didn’t raise taxes once. I lowered taxes over the last two years. I lowered taxes for the last two years.”

Let’s break down the statement, starting with Obama’s “I didn’t raise taxes once” claim. This assertion is blatantly false, as President Obama has signed into law at least two dozen tax increases:

Feb. 4, 2009 – Obama signs federal tobacco tax hike: Just sixteen days into his presidency, Obama signed into law a 156 percent increase in the federal excise tax on tobacco – a hike of 62 cents per pack.

Obama’s signature on this tax hike was a violation of his central campaign promise – a “firm pledge” that no American making less than $250,000 would see “any form of tax increase”. The median income of smokers is just over $36,000.

March 23, 2010 – Obama signs the healthcare bill into law: Obama’s signature on the health care bill enacted two dozen new or higher taxes (at least seven of which violate his “firm pledge” on taxes),
including but not limited to:

-- Individual Mandate Excise Tax
-- Employer Mandate Excise Tax
-- Small business 1099-MISC Information Reporting
-- Surtax on Investment Income
-- Excise Tax on Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans
-- Hike in Medicare Payroll Tax
-- Medicine Cabinet Tax
-- HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike
-- Flexible Spending Account Cap – aka “Special Needs Kids Tax”
-- Tax on Medical Device Manufacturers
-- "Haircut" for Medical Itemized Deduction from 7.5% to 10% of AGI
-- Tax on Indoor Tanning Services
-- Elimination of tax deduction for employer-provided retirement Rx drug coverage
-- Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tax Hike
-- Excise Tax on Charitable Hospitals
-- Tax on Innovator Drug Companies
-- Tax on Health Insurers • Page 2

-- Biofuel “black liquor” tax hike
-- Codification of the “economic substance doctrine”

Now let’s turn to the second part of Obama’s claim: “I lowered taxes over the last two years. I lowered taxes for the last two years.”

• President Obama’s entire claim of being a net tax-cutter rests merely upon the temporary tax relief he has signed into law. The tax increases Obama has signed into law have invariably been permanent. In fact, Obama signed into law $7 in permanent tax hikes for every $1 in permanent tax cuts

• Over 90% of the dollar value of the tax cuts Obama signed into law are only temporary

• 100% of the tax increases Obama signed into law are, however, permanent
• Permanent changes to tax law signed by Obama amount to a net tax hike of $618.7 billion

Tryin' to draw attention away from Ms. GoodBody calling you out, I see.

If he raised taxes 12 times, saying "I didn't raise them once"...is true.

I'm shocked and apalled at the way you mistreated MissGoodBody, you cad!

(got any nudies to post?)

• Over 90% of the dollar value of the tax cuts Obama signed into law are only temporary

So you would also say that Bush didn't cut taxes because his cuts were only temporary.

Obama decreased the overall tax burden via $280 billion in stimulus breaks and extending the Bush tax cuts on the rich. If you wish, you can sit around and bitch about little raises here and there and completely refuse to mention the fact that overall we're paying less than before Obama took office. It doesn't make any sense to do so but then again you could give a flying fuck about sense.

is miles married to ms goodbody?

No, Miles is married to Ms. Goodsalary, which allows him the financial freedom to surf teh interwebs for impressionable 20-somethings with self-esteem and/or "daddy" issues.

I already explained. you don't meet the criteria. Apart from sometimes you make me laugh.

I don't think you should trust your source on that.

That's Dr. Goodsalary, buddy.

no, it's true, you have made me laugh a few times. but you do only hit one of several criteria. Unless you are 6'6+, well built and very hairy. in which case you need to PM me evidence so I can reassess your eligibility.

I think the short answer here miles is yes. The long answer is we all know that when he said taxes he meant income taxes and other stuff that effects us all. You knew it as well and simple choose to distort the truth. Maybe two of the taxes you mentioned effect the average man and if it doesn't effect us it didn't happen.

The same broken pledge cost George H. Bush a second term.

And, nobody "knew" he meant only income taxes. If that's what you thought, you're as dumb as Obama thinks we all are.

`I've had nothing yet,' Alice replied in an offended tone, `so I can't take more.'

`You mean you can't take less,' said the Hatter: `it's very easy to take more than nothing.'

Or I'm just well enough versed in common vernacular to be able to speak it. So are you I imagine. You know what he meant, you know what he did and you know you're mincing words.

Also what cost Bush his second term was having the incredible bad luck to run up against one of the best politicains (if not THE best) of the modern era. Just like what cost Gore his presidency was he ran up against a man who had a birthright to the throne. Care to make any wagers on if Obama gets his second term or if the Republicans have a genuine messiah they plan to unveil in the next eight months or so?

Yeah, I'll get right on that.
