Fetish clothing makes me feel very self-conscious, insecure and far from pretty, so in my relationship it is used on the occasions he wants to mess with my mind. I love humiliation and mind games, so in that aspect the clothing works for me, but definitely not in the fetishistic sense.

In the OP, the line about leather vs. silk prompted my brain to wonder if a lot of fetish wear is designed specifically for how it feels against the body.

I often wonder when reading BDSM stories or watching videos why the doms/dommes go to all the trouble of fitting in leather pants or a corset...lord knows they're not exactly the most comfortable clothing one could wear and not the easiest to put on, nor the most forgiving when considering things like range of motion or mobility, but the point you raised about how leather or silk can affect your state of mind, is a valid point to why.

for me the leather thigh high boots, exaggerate my strut, and that strut alone helps get me in the mood to inflict and I love the extra height when I am wielding my whips. I think I agree with you here. The whole usual fetish get ups border too close to the cliche and absurd for me just from an outsider's perspective....still what switchbitch said about the affect of wearing them has on her state of mind, her mood to inflict, her attitude to dominate, or her desire to submit is a valid point too.

I think it comes down to the dom/domme. Some won't need to wear anything more than their regular clothing to express their dominance over their submissive, others don't feel complete without the fetish wear on.
