“Listen, bitch. It’s rude to tease a guy and then just leave him unsatisfied. I think you owe me.”

How had she gotten into this situation? Oh right, that stupid bet.

A Few Minutes Earlier…

“Stephanie, there is absolutely no way that you can go over there and tease a guy, come back leaving him with blueballs, without some sort of repercussion.” Stephanie Hawkins best friend Ellie said to her. Stephanie had a huge problem, she didn’t believe in love. It was just an emotion people used to have sex, she was cynical not to mention terribly sarcastic. It was probably the reason why everyone she met instantly thought of her as a bitch.

This explained why she was single. It definitely had nothing to do with her looks. She had long brown hair, brown eyes, her skin tanned from the sun, she was slim and had breasts that any girl with small tits would have loved to have. They were a simple size c but she’d never seen a guy not look at them.

“I really think this is a bad idea, Steph.” Ellie continued.

“Look, if I win I owe you fifty bucks and a drink, right? Can’t get better than that. Besides, you brought it up. Stop being such a punk El.” She walked over the guy in question, smiling at him. “Hey wanna dance?”

“Sure thing, baby.” The guy said, eying her up and down, starting from her breasts to her toned thighs, then back up to her face. Typical male. Once they were on the dance floor, Stephanie had turned so that her ass was in front of the guy, grinding against him in a slow rhythm that matched the music. She could hear him groaning softly, holding onto her hips guiding her as if they were actually fucking. His hands roamed from her hips up to her tits as she rolled her hips.

After the sensual dance, she grinned at him “Thanks for the dance, it was fun!”

The guy grinned back at her, “Sure thing, babe. Maybe we can do a dance of our own back at my dorm.”

Bingo!

“No, I’m good thanks for the offer though.” Stephanie said as she turned to leave. The guy grabbed her arm, roughly pulling her back to him. “Let me go!” Stephanie snapped

“Listen, bitch. It’s rude to tease a guy and then just leave him unsatisfied. I think you owe me.”

“Right, because a simple dance is obviously teasing a guy.” She said sarcastically, the guy narrowed his eyes at her, “And if I don’t?”

The worse words that ever escaped her lips.

“Well, I’ll just have to make you.”

He took a sip of his coke and wrinkled his nose. Shooting a glare at the bar tender he slid the glass back to him and spoke loudly to be heard over the music.

“Hey, asshole this is diet. Just because I’m the D.D. doesn’t mean I’m watching my girlish figure. This tastes like horse piss.”

The poor over worked bartender raised his hands in a placating gesture and tossed the glass in the bin and filled up a new one and slid it back to him. Derrik nodded his head in thanks and took a sip, then went back to his purview of the dance floor. So many hot looking girls out displaying the goods with guys, or sometimes other girls. Why the hell was he here? Well that was simple, this was the best place to meet a hot looking girl who wanted to have some fun. He was no good at social scenes like this however, he was better at small house parties or something. Most of his friends were out on the floor with girls, but he couldn’t dance a step to save his life.

So he sat on the stool watching everyone else have fun while he sat there nursing a coke, working himself up into a really shitty mood; at least the eye candy was good.

He raised his brow as he saw Stephanie and Ellie talking at the bar. This was never a good thing. Those two were inseparable, and they usually got themselves into trouble. No concern of his right? Even if Steph was a fucking goddess in flesh; it didn’t matter she was also a fucking cunt. He turned his gaze back to the mass of people, but something nagged at the back of his head. A shit storm was coming and he left his umbrella at home.

He shifted his gaze back to Steph, watching her grind on some random guy, wasn’t he on the football team? Derrik’s own black jeans became a little tighter in the front watching her move. Fuck this was like window shopping at a candy store! She separated from the guy, and his face turned an ugly shade of crimson. Oh man, he knew that look this was not going to be good.

Slipping off the stool with drink in hand he walked through the crowd and was close enough to hear the bellowed:

“Listen, bitch. It’s rude to tease a guy and then just leave him unsatisfied. I think you owe me.”

Derrik was hard not hard to spot in the crowd. He was one of the few guys there who had the traditional “Metal head” look going for him. Steel toed work boots, dark black jeans, and a black t-shirt with the words “As I Lay Dying” scrawled across his chest in cryptic lettering. He was out of place here like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.

He arrived on the scene just in time to see the meat head’s hand wrapped around Steph’s arm and her looking like she was finally starting to regret letting those cock sucking lips open; for once. He met her eyes and nodded his head, hoping she would understand the gesture of “Follow my lead”

“Alright Steph, game is over. Your right, he’s not gay, you crushed my hopes and dreams girlfriend, lets go now huh? I think you owe me a dance next.”

Spoken in what was an imagined not quite heterosexual lisp. It was not the most clever of ruse, but hell she had called him gay before, he figured he might as well take this opportunity to take a jab at her. He took on a stance of impatience and eyed the big man.

“C’mon now sugar pants, hands off the merchandise, this is my bitch and I aint sellin’!”

He had a feeling this wasn’t going to work, and he was tired of being right all the time. The big man’s anger shifted from Stephanie to Derrik and his face started to turn purple. His voice was soft and lethal as he spoke. “Edwards, are you trying to make me look like an idiot? I know your not gay, and I know this cunt has nothing to do with you. Back to fuck off before I back you off!!!”

Derrik sighed softly and his stance changed. His dark green eyes flared with a deep passionate intensity as he ran his fingers through his short black hair. “Yeah I know you know that. However, what your about to do is not right either, and like her or not I’m not going to watch you do it, so if your committed to trying to force yourself on her, or get rough with her, you are just going to have to go through me first.”

“Alright Steph, game is over. Your right, he’s not gay, you crushed my hopes and dreams girlfriend, lets go now huh? I think you owe me a dance next.”

Stephanie looked at Derrik with a confused look, what in the hell was he talking about. Granted, she always called him gay, she didn't actually think he was. She just did it because it annoyed the hell out of him. Obviously, the guy she'd been flirting with didn't believe much of what he was saying.

“C’mon now sugar pants, hands off the merchandise, this is my bitch and I aint sellin’!”

Oh, shit! He was...trying to protect her, wasn't he? She should probably say something before the other guy totally beat the shit out of him. That might've been kinda entertaining though. She looked thoughtful for a minute as the what's his face started talking back to Derrik.

Just as she was about ready to play along with Derrik, because this was probably the only time she'd be able to say gay jokes towards him, he totally gave himself up. So caught up in her own disappointment she didn't even pay attention to the fact that he was sticking up for her, still.

She could still say what she wanted to say though, because Mister Buff (thats what she nicknamed the guy she'd been hitting on) looked ready to kick his ass.

"Now Derrik, theres no need to go back into the closet. Might as well let it all out." She turned to 'mister buff' "He's right, we made a little bet to see if you were gay or not, Derrik's been looking for a lover to have --in secret, if ya know what I mean. Like I said, thanks for the offer but no thanks. Lets go princess!" Steph said, trying as hard as she possibly could not to fight back laughter from both of their stunned faces as she dragged Derrik away from Mister buff.

As soon as they were back at the bar, she forced a smile as she did what she hated doing the most, thanking Derrik for...anything "Thanks for the help.. Guess I owe you now huh?"

Why was Steph wearing a look of complete confusion? She hadn’t caught on had she? He had sort of hoped she might be able to keep up, she was not so daft as that; well so much for hope. It looked like it was about to end up being a show down, one he may or may not live through. Well there was a price for having moral values and standards right? He was about to…

Lets go princess!"

It was his turn to look a little stunned, look who finally decided to fire up the cerebral cortex and join the game! Quickly throwing her a smile in her direction despite the jabs; after all he started the game, he couldn’t change the rules now, could he?

Away they went back to the bar and away from the meathead. He drew a deep breath and Steph could see him relax visibly. He had been very obviously intending to fight over the situation, even if it was for her. This time his shock was not so easily broken. He stared at her, looked into her eyes, his mouth oh so slightly open. He had expected any number of retorts from her, more than likely a big “I’m a big girl and can take care of myself” speech.

Thanks though? He had not fathomed it. Adrenaline was finally starting to fade, his brain was catching up to the situation. He had just defended her out of automatic reflex, and despite the constant tension between the two of them the lighting in here complimented her very well. He was staring into her eyes silently and then he cleared his throat, a faint touch of color rising to his cheeks.

“Uh it’s all good Steph. I hate assholes like that who think they can just take whatever they want because they are big or popular. Nice work there though, I thought you were gonna leave me hanging. Good to know your good in a tight spot.”

She had just claimed she owed him one didn’t she? Well, he could certainly get some use out of that but would he be any better than Mr. Asshole? He gave her something rare to be seen from him, a real, genuine smile. It caught his light green eyes and they warmed, for just the moment.

“Don’t worry about it Stephanie. He was wrong to handle you like that. No means no and even guys like him need to respect that. Your ok though?”

Yeah, right about now Steph should be looking up to see if lightning was going to strike, he was being honestly truly nice to her without an expectation of anything in return.

Like all good things, this moment came to a crashing end when Mr. buff came up behind Derrik and shoved him from behind. The momentum was unexpected but there was only Stephanie in between him and the bar. He had the presence of mind to curl an arm around her waist and tug her away from the unforgiving wood. She was pressed against his chest, and his shoulder hit the wood hard. From her cradled position she could feel that Derrik may not be a football player himself but he obviously was in pretty damn good shape.

Recovering slowly he flexed his right arm as pins and needles shot through it. He cast a quick look at Steph to make sure she was ok, then he used his hand to steer her off to the side. “Might wanna steer clear honey.” His eyes were like emerald flames and they blazed in the dim light of the dance club. Taking one last look to make sure that Steph was clear of the situation he turned his head to stare down Mr. Buff.

“You feel better now? Personally I don’t wanna do the jail time for fighting but you have a lot more to lose here than I do. Jail time for assault and attempted rape? That will look real good for the football team won’t it? So what’s more important here? Ego or your future?”

Mr. Buff was well beyond reasoning here. He let loose a low growl and dropped his shoulders and lunged forward; head down. With an inward sigh Derrik shifted his feet and brought his back leg up hard. His knee struck the larger man square in the jaw and snapped his head back hard. His eyes were already rolling into the back of his skull and his knees were caving as his head came back down.

Derrik watched him sink down and then turned his head to look for Stephanie and Ellie, who were standing together watching the show. He walked toward them swiftly and drew in a deep breath. “I was really hoping to avoid that. Well Steph I was hoping to not have to call in that favor, but I really don’t feel like spending the night in jail. Any chance we can go create an alibi? Seen any good movies lately? Ellie your welcome to come if you want, I just don’t want to be here when the cops show up.”

And his shoulder was fucking KILLING him, but he wasn’t going to admit that.

Oh man, the way Derrik talked when pretending to be gay was classic! If she didn't know any better and if all of her friends hadn't told her how corny his come on's were, she would've thought he was gay! She squealed at the sight of him kicking mr. buff in the jaw with his knee.

"Whoa!" Ellie gasped

"Didn't know he had physical capacity to do that!" Steph whispered to her friend, Ellie nodded in agreement but was too shocked to actually say anything. Well, it didn't appear that Stephanie would be getting anything else to drink, since she was part of the reason they would have to leave.

She almost felt bad, almost.

She honestly didn't want to go to the movies with Derrik, but she supposed that she should keep her promise. "Uh, sure..okay. Ell you comin?" Steph asked as she turned to face her friend, her eyes pleading that she come with her.

Ellie sighed, "Yeah, sure whatever."

"Oh, and you still owe me fifty and a drink!" Stephanie said to Ellie before turning back to Derrik, "Lead the way, princess!"

He saw enough of what passed between Ellie and Stephanie to see that neither of them were thrilled with the idea of spending the rest of the evening with him. Well truth be told aside from the eye candy he wasn’t excited about the prospect either. He was in a shit ton of pain, and spending the rest of the evening with two of the most cutting sarcastic bitches he ever met, all for the sake of keeping his ass out of jail? Not high on the priority list.

Then came that princess comment again. Well so much for him looking at her with any sort of warmth. Whatever it was in his gaze before was gone now. There was certainly no more lust, his eyes leveled on her own and never strayed far from her face. He would not be taken in by a nice pair of tits or that gorgeous ass…not tonight anyway. He heaved a light sigh and shook his head.

“Keep those lips flapping sunshine and I’ll find a good use for them. Just for that, you have to pay for your own ticket and you can’t have any of my popcorn. “

He stepped past Stephanie and extended his hand to Ellie with a grin.

“What movie would you like to see Ellie? Anything you want, and it’s on me tonight.”

She got a warm smile as he waited to see if she would take his hand. He was pointedly ignoring Steph at this point and paying all his attention to Ellie. “So, what’s the plan beautiful?”

Ellie looked between her best friend and her not-so-best friend. She could take Steph's side and be a bitch...or she could be as sweet as an angel and get a free movie and popcorn. It wasn't really a tough decision! She already owed Stephanie 50 bucks and a drink which was like always 5 bucks or more.

"Lead the way," She paused, before flashing Steph an apologetic smile, "cutie."

Stephanie stood there for a moment looking utterly stupid. "I was just kidding!" She said, following behind Derrik and Ellie, feeling slightly...slightly, oh dear god she was feeling jealous, of Ellie and the way Derrik's warm look towards her had switched to displeasure and then immediately returned when looking at her friend. She wasn't even sure why she was jealous! This was Derrik, after all. It wasn't like they actually got along or anything. Crossing her arms across her chest, she heaved a loud, dramatic sigh.

"Fine, whatever. Movies don't cost that much." She snapped, glaring at the back of his head and feeling like a third wheel. She felt like just letting them have their date and staying at the bar, but she didn't. Instead, Stephanie followed behind them with a sour look on her face.

To say he was pleasantly surprised at Ellie’s response was an understatement, but he just gave her a warm smile and a nod. As the trio neared the door he stepped ahead of them and opened it, holding it so the girls could exit first, then he let it close behind him as he caught up and lead them to his car. There was nothing super special about his car, it was not a big muscle car, just a clean looking red prius. Though there was two bumper stickers on the back bumper. A black one that in stark white letters read “Misanthropy is the best policy” and a white one with black letters that said “P.E.T.A.” in big letters, then under it in caption it said “People Eating Tasty Animals”

He walked to the passenger door and again held it open for the girls to get in. It was a two door so they would have to make that choice themselves. After they were situated he pushed the door gently closed, taking care not to catch a limb in the door. Then he walked around to the drives side and threw the car into a quiet rumble. Half turning to look at both of them he wore a light smile.

“Ok no more messin’ around. We are just going to a movie. I know you girls are not my biggest fans, and the feeling is a little mutual though I can honestly say I hold no real grudge against either of you. This can go two ways, we can keep picking at each other and making the night hell, or we can try to get along just for the evening and have a good time, I’ll bring you back here afterward and that will be it, or drop you at home if need be… not really sure how you got here.”

He paused for a moment and then smiled brighter.

“I’ll even sweeten the deal. Try to have a good time and if you are both miserable with me by the end of the night despite my efforts to be a good host I will double your bet pay off and give you both fifty bucks and buy you a drink and send you on your way. Even if you do enjoy your time I’ll pay you what Ellie owes, Steph. Honestly it’s been a really shitty day and I just want to relax a little and have some fun. What do you say girls? Deal?”

He extended his left hand to shake Step’s hand if she agreed to the deal but he sucked in a breath and winced. Pulling his hand back quickly he extended the right one instead. Yeah he wasn’t going to be able to move that arm in the morning, at least he was right handed.

Stephanie was quiet during the whole speech as she stared out the window of the car. It was on the tip of her tongue to say some smart ass remark but just as she opened her mouth to say something, Ellie nudged her and gave her the 'don't ruin my free ticket into the movies' look, which was more of a glare than that sort of a look.

Stephanie just knew how to interpret it. Derrik seemed to go on about how they should get along, blah blah blah and then suddenly the words, 50 bucks doubled up plus a free drink. Both girls eyes brightened up, Ellie because she didn't have to pay a thing and Stephanie because she'd be getting double the money that she was owed plus a drink.

"Fine. We'll be sweet little angels." Stephanie said with a bright innocent smile, Ellie following right behind her with the smile then said, "You won't hear any smart ass remarks from us."

Stephanie shook his right hand, feeling sort of bad that his left hand was incapacitated at the moment, because of her.

He released her hand and nodded in satisfaction at their agreement, if not perhaps at the words themselves. He was wearing a smile that looked clearly like he was fighting to turn its desire to turn into a laugh. Perking a brow slowly he murmured lightly. “Sweet little angels huh? We will see about that one.”

Shifting the car into gear it was just a short drive to the nearest theatre and it took a moment or two to find parking. The place was pretty packed; he looked up at the nearest row marker and mouthed the isle and row number to himself a few times. The last thing he needed to do to top off tonight was forget where he parked. Neither of the girls would let him live it down once this was all over and their bet was off.

He put a hand to his chest and pulled up his shirt a little and gave it a testing sniff and then grimaced. Reaching down gingerly into the pocket along the floor runner of the car he gave himself a quick sprits of the scent he wore. Grumbling loud enough to be heard as he opened the door. “I hate coming out of clubs smelling like smoke. Ugh.”

He turned to the girls and extended his hand to whomever had decided to sit in the back as he pushed up the seat. “So how about it? What are we gonna see? Action, comedy, drama, horror? Ladies choice after all.”

Both girls glanced at each other after he murmured something about seeing if they could be angels. Obviously, he didn't think they could be good girls for the evening and they could, if they were going to profit from whatever the reason they were being 'angels' to begin with.

They were definitely going to profit from this though, so of course they'd be perfect little angels...well, probably not perfect but definitely angels. Both girls got out of the car and acted as each others mirrors, making sure each one of them looked good.

Not because they were going to the movies with Derrik, that definitely wasn't the reason, but because they were considered popular, belonged to a sorority, that sort of thing.

Both girls watched as Derrik sprayed himself with what looked like Axe, they weren't sure; after he had grumbled about hating coming out of clubs smelling like smoke. Stephanie opened her mouth to say something very smart-ass like but was jabbed in the side by Ellie.

Right, angels.

"Comedy." Ellie and Stephanie said. Normally when they went out with a guy to the movies they always chose horror, but that was when it was a date. This was not a date.

He watched them take the time to arrange each others hair and such and he barely withheld a soft laugh. He was momentarily reminded of something that belonged on the National Geographic Channel. Two predatory lioness’ grooming one another or something similar to that anyhow. The thought brought him quite a lot of amusement. He could not withhold his mirth entirely, and so when they came around the vehicle and proclaimed comedy he was smiling at the both of them, his eyes glittering with his mirth.

“Comedy? Fine by me I could use a laugh tonight. By the way, both of you look stunning. I’m going to take this moment to feel lucky if you don’t mind. Spending time with two of the most beautiful women on campus is not a pleasure I usually get. Anyway, shall we?”

Amazingly there was no hint of sarcasm in his words, or in his face. He was still smiling however. He wondered if they would reply to that at all? There was so many places in that statement those two girls could pick apart and find a place to sneak in one of their usual scathing comments. He waited for just long enough to see if he was going to save fifty bucks and the price of a drink tonight, then he turned and headed for the theatre.

Up to the window he went, checking to see if the two girls were in tow; or how far away from him they would be standing so as not to be seen associating with him. The lingering trail of his freshly applied scent guided them up to the window where he was purchasing the three tickets and having an interaction with the male teller at the window.

“Yeah three of them Trevor.”

“Who are the other two for? This does not seem like the kind of the guys would go see, or you for that matter.”

“Just push the button like a good little monkey and give me my tickets. I’ll see you tomorrow night. We moved practice up to 7 pm. We need to fine tune the last half of the new song before the gig.”

Trevor just sighed with a nod and pressed a few buttons on the flat screen register. He was grumbling to himself.

“Trish is gonna be pissed. We were supposed to go out before then…Hey who are you here with anyway?”

Derrik remained silent and took his tickets with a sharp look and then turned around to dispense one to Steph and one to Ellie. “This was the only comedy playing girls, ready to go?”

Trevor stared with a mixture of disbelief and horror as he watched him hand out the tickets and in a slightly strangled voice he boomed into the microphone.

“Your with them?!?”

“Comedy? Fine by me I could use a laugh tonight. By the way, both of you look stunning. I’m going to take this moment to feel lucky if you don’t mind. Spending time with two of the most beautiful women on campus is not a pleasure I usually get. Anyway, shall we?”

The way Derrik kept complimenting the girls it was really hard to be mean to him, no matter how hard Stephanie tried to muster up enough malice for both her and Ellie since Ellie was in 'I'm in my angel so I can get a free movie and popcorn, see my halo?' It really sucked when your partner in crime wasn't working with you.

Ellie and Stephanie followed Derrik until he stood in line, both girls stood on the side, waiting for him to buy their tickets. It was easier not to be assumed as his date.

"Come on, you have to admit...he is kinda cute...in that dorky sorta way." Ellie whispered as Derrik got up to the window, "and i totally think he's into you."

Stephanie shrugged her shoulders, " I guess...I mean he's not exactly GQ material but he's...okay."

Ellie smirked in satisfaction just as over the loud speaker came the cracking voice of one of Derrik's band nerds yelling out of the loud speaker about them going to a movie with him just as Derrik walked over to them.

Stephanie had to fight back a groan, her life was probably over. Many of her sorority sisters who had just stepped in line, glanced over at them and then frowned in disgust. Yeah, definitely over.

And….time seemed to freeze. All that was nessicary now was the “Need a moment, grab a twix” from Trevor.

He was not privy to the little exchange Steph and Ellie had, he was just aware of the look of horror on Stephanie’s face when Trevor dropped the ball so perfectly, and at the same time several of her sorority sisters stepped into line. Yeah he knew enough about Steph and her gang to recognize the cronies on sight.

He looked the girls over for a moment and his eyes froze ever so briefly on Stephanie’s figure. He caught something but quickly gazed over Ellie in reply. He turned to Trevor with a face perfectly composed and shook his head slowly.

“Trevor, you’re a fucking idiot. Do you think girls like this would even talk to me on their own? It’s an experiment for one of our classes. Now why don’t you get back to work, genius?”

If looks could kill Trevor would have been flayed alive and dead, revived, only to be killed again. Then he turned to the girls and forced a smile. “Sorry about that, why don’t you two head inside, I’ll be right back. I forgot my notebook in the car. It suddenly got really stupid out here.”

Another skin piercing look for Trevor and he trotted off back toward the car. He came out with two hooded sweatshirts that had “Mortis” scrawled in cryptic lettering upon the chest. Turning them inside out he nodded in satisfaction. He was glad that he had paid the extra to have these shirts be reversible and have nothing written on the other side. He came back into the lobby searching for the pair.

After that embarrassing scene he doubted they would be interested in socializing with their sorority buddies for the time being so the little fib was relatively safe. Coming back with the two plain looking black zip up shirts in hand he threw one over his shoulder and came up behind steph.

“Here, the owner tends to really lay on the AC here and it gets pretty cold.”

As he stepped closer and waited to see if she would willingly extend her arms to him he whispered softly into her ear, but loud enough to be heard over the dull roar of the theatre. “Apparently meathead handled you a little rougher than I thought, your arm is starting to bruise but I didn’t want to draw attention to it.”

Sure enough there was a bruise starting to appear in the delightful shape of fingerprints on her handled arm. He was fairly positive she would want to hide that with all of the effort she took into looking as good as she did. As the soft fabric slipped over her shoulders and settled around her she could tell that this was one that had already been worn. It had a noticeable male scent, his as a matter of fact, though it still had a hint of being freshly washed.

After it settled around her he offered the other to Ellie with a smile.

“Ok, do you girls want anything to snack on before we go?”

Uggh! The sweetness of Derrik was starting to get a bit overwhelming here. It was clear that he saw her 'sisters' and knew who they were. How could he not, aside from them wearing the sorority sweatshirts, they were also the girls who helped her make fun of Derrik. They really weren't that hard to miss.

"Yeah, you do that." She snapped, slightly from frustration of even being seen with him, in public along with frustration from how incredibly sweet he was being when he could easily ruin her reputation. Why in the hell was he being so damned sweet to her? Here was his chance to bring her popularity down a few pegs and he wasn't.

Dear god, were their actually NICE guys out there? That was almost like being in the twilight zone. This whole situation was like an episode of the twilight zone. Ellie and Stephanie walked into the theater but couldn't get very far without the tickets...which Derrik had.

"We did it, we haven't made fun of him once. I think this means we get free snacks!" Ellie squealed, Stephanie merely smiled having too much on your mind did not tend to go along with talking to your friend.

Once he returned, he returned with two jackets he whispered something in her ear.

“Apparently meathead handled you a little rougher than I thought, your arm is starting to bruise but I didn’t want to draw attention to it.”

She extended her arms and once the jacket was on her, she couldn't help admitting that even though he wasn't GQ material, he definitely smelled like it. This admission was only to herself though.

When Derrik asked if they wanted anything before the movie, Ellie blurted out, "Gummy bears!" She turned to Stephanie, "Its the only REAL fatfree food on the menu."

Stephanie nodded in agreement, "Popcorn, though I probably won't eat all of it and gummy bears."

Well, at least one of them was having herself a good time. Ellie looked like she was about ready to bounce on her toes. He couldn’t help but give her a genuine smile as she blurted out gummy bears. He turned to Steph as she spoke and his mirth dwindled a little bit. She was obviously not having all that great of a time.

He caught himself before he could sigh. What had he expected? Why should this time be any different than those that came before it? Truth be told he had always been nice to Stephanie at first. She drew first blood and that put him on the defensive. He didn’t quite understand why she was so venomous all the time, she seemed to keep almost everyone at arms length. He knew a defensive gesture when he saw one, but when he was around her he could not keep his cool. Something about her just kept him off balance. Why did he let her effect him so much? It was stupid really, he was really good at deflecting people like her, but she just got under his skin in more way than one.

“Alright, gummy bears and popcorn it is.”

He ran his fingers through his short black hair and walked up to the counter. His body language was changed, it lacked the animation and the energy it had before. The girl at the counter flashed him a smile and they started talking, but his heart wasn’t in it. She came back quickly with the order and leaned over the counter a little to raise a brow at Steph and Ellie and then give him a questioning glance. He just gave her a smile and a shrug and turned back toward Steph and Ellie with a popcorn, two bags of gummy bears, and a large drink.

Handing a bag to each of them he nodded his head toward the left hallway. “Alright 13 is this way. Do you want me to sit elsewhere? I think I’ve already endangered your reputation enough by just being seen in public with me. Not sure how effective my little story was.”

There was a catch in his voice. It was not hard per say, but there was a rough quality to it as if he were straining to mask a subtle undercurrent. He was picking up on Stephanie’s mood and it was not something he really wanted to be around anymore. His shoulder felt like it was swelling up and it was shooting pain down through his whole arm. He just wanted this night to be over at this point, but he had committed to the movie and a drink after, and a ride home if they needed it, and he would hold to his word if nothing else.

Stephanie watched almost near envy as Derrik lingered a bit too long with cashier at the snack area. She didn't understand why she was jealous. It was only Derrik, just Derrik. She hadn't exactly been the sweetest of girls to him. From the moment she'd met him she admitted the slightest bit of attraction to him, but she had been a pledge then and there were strict rules.

Only date the frat boys.

At the time, she hadn't actually known that many of the sisters broke that rule especially since the last sorority leader was a bitch anyways, but at the time she was a pledge and pledge's didn't know anything about that. At the time, she had wanted to be in the sorority leaders good graces, so of course she was mean to him even when he had been impossibly sweet and it had sooo hard to be mean.

But she was and thus her problem created.

As he came back she noticed the lack of energy he'd had. Ellie raised her eyebrow at her and Stephanie could only shrug. she didn't know what to think. Once they were in the theater, he'd asked if they wanted him to leave.

"What? No, you should sit with us. Trust me, they aren't the brightest of girls plus they're pledges, so they don't really know any better, if anything they'll wonder why they can't go out with whomever they want." Ellie said

Stephanie was quiet, silently wishing she could be as nice as Ellie was. The only problem was she'd gotten so in the habit of being mean and well, a bitch to Derrik, it just came naturally. Ellie took a seat, dragging Stephanie behind her and forcing her to sit down then looked at Derrik. "You can sit next to Steph, she won't bite..."

"What? No, you should sit with us. Trust me, they aren't the brightest of girls plus they're pledges, so they don't really know any better, if anything they'll wonder why they can't go out with whomever they want."

Well that was a surprise. Ellie had been fairly sweet so far but he had not expected her to actually ask him to stay around them. He nodded his head slowly. When they got situated and she told him to sit next to Steph he couldn’t help but quirk a smile. He was trying to pull himself out of this brooding mood that Stephanie was so expert at putting him in. She would more than likely recognize this as their odd little “Comfort zone.” Steph played the part of the bitch, and he played the part of the near silent brooding male who pretended not to care a damn bit what she thought. So he tried to break the barrier with a joke, oh this could go so badly.

“She won’t? Well, that is a shame isn’t it? What if I ask really nicely?”

Wait wait wait… yes you heard right. He was flirting. He took a handful of popcorn and popped a little into his mouth and then let out a little chuckle. After swallowing he spoke quietly as the previews kicked in. “I love it when Trish works concessions. She always puts extra butter on the popcorn” Yeah… that would be the same Trish that was Trevor’s girlfriend. So that little time spent at the stand was not flirting.

He set the drink in the built in arm rest of the chair between himself and Stephanie and then settled back into the seat. He shifted a time or two as he tried to find a comfortable way to sit with his shoulder opposite the girls in the sorry state it was in. Remembering at the last moment to turn his phone on vibrate.

“She won’t? Well, that is a shame isn’t it? What if I ask really nicely?”

Both girls stiffened only from shock at his words. Even though Ellie wasn't as surprised that he was hitting on Stephanie as Stephanie was. Even though Steph was oblivious to the fact the guy had a major thing for her, Ellie wasn't. It only made her grin.

Stephanie was surprised, yes but not disgusted, just... surprised. She went into instant flirt mode though which normally happened when a guy who was at least decent looking flirted with her.

"Becareful what you wish for. You might regret it, later." She reached into the popcorn bowl and attempted to grab a handful just as Derrik did and blushed as their hands brushed, she quickly jerked her hand back as he mentioned something about Trish and butter and popcorn.

That instant sense of jealousy coarsed through her bones again.

"Oh? You sure there's no motive in her giving you extra butter." The tone in Stephanies voice screamed jealousy.

"Becareful what you wish for. You might regret it, later."

Oh that made him grin, and this was not something Steph has really seen from him, a wicked, flirty little grin. He was about to say something in reply when their hands met in the effort of getting more popcorn. He paused and looked at her. She was blushing! Holy hell. His mind started to race, and so did his pulse for that matter.

Then he could practically see the jealousy flood her as he mentioned Trish. He wanted to sigh, but he kept his face calm and shook his head just a hint. He managed to keep his voice warm, even though he wanted to make a snide remark. Sleeping with Trish would just be fucking weird.

“I’ve known her since she was in diapers. Changed a few of them as a matter of fact. If we were gonna hook up it would have happened a LONG time ago. She’s like my little sister, and I’m the guy she calls at 2 AM when Trevor is being an asshole. I helped him pay for her engagement ring that she is yet to get. So if she hears about it beforehand I will personally spank both of you, and I promise you won’t enjoy it.”

Holding the popcorn in hand he watched Steph with a warm smile. Chuckling softly he held a piece of popcorn just in front of her lips. “Guess it is time to see if I’m going to get what I wish for huh?” His eyes were intent on her face for a moment they were full of intensity. Then they slowly dropped to her lips.

Stephanie blushed again while Ellie remained silent thinking that maybe if she was quiet enough, they might start thinking this was a date instead of a bet. Steph on the other hand felt like an idiot. Of course they weren't dating, not that it should have mattered to her... because it didn't.

Stephanie eyed the piece of popcorn that Derrik offered her in hopes of getting bitten. Gingerly, Stephanie grabbed hold of the kernal not by her teeth though because she most likely wouldve bitten him, but by her tongue, it lightly almost teasingly brushed against his fingertips.

Steph sat back in her chair. "I don't bite on the first dste and this isn't a date sooo you're outta luck, cause you only get bit on the second date if I really like you." She smirked and turned her attention to the movie screen as the last of the previews started.

He totally missed the blush because his eyes were focused on her lips. When she parted them and let her tongue snake out like that he could not hold back the faint intake of breath as he felt every inch of his body start to tingle with anticipation. He wondered if she would hear it over the ambient noise in the theatre. His face might have been a little comical to be honest. As he felt her tongue brush against his fingertips his eyes drifted back as if trying to close.

“Oh fuck me”

That was groaned just oh so softly, but there was no missing that. When he cracked open his eyelids she was sitting back with a smug grin on her face saying something about a second date… and this not being the first. His hand was still suspended where the popcorn kernel had been. Now it was his turn to feel like a total idiot. He blushed furiously and didn’t even try to come up with a witty reply. He snatched his hand away and turned his attention to the movie screen. Maybe if he pretended they were not there the embarrassment of just having his oral fixation outed would go away.

How about now? Nope try again.

Now? Nope, still red.

FUCK!

Drawing a deep breath to steady his emotions he waited for the biting comment from either of them to come. He grabbed the soda with a still trembling hand and took a big pull from it before settling it back down. Right, you just embarrassed yourself in front of one of the most popular girls in your school, and the girl you fantasize about. Good job ace. He started looking around for the nearest rock to crawl under.

Stephanie was hardly paying attention to the last preview. She couldn't believe she'd actually done what she just did. Part of her felt satisfied though after hearing that small groan escape Derriks lips. She figured he was in enough shock as it was though, so she didn't give a smart ass remark.

"That would probably be on the third date."

Okay, so maybe she did or was she flirting? It was hard to tell what she was doing any longer when it came to Derrik. Ellie glance at the two and had to keep from laughing. They were definitely amusing to watch.

Ellie noticed the embarassed look on Derriks face and wanted to scream, Stephanie is flirting with you, make your fucking move before she changes her mind. Stephanie had been thinking the same thing though she wasn't sure why shed changed her mind about him.

The movie had started and all seemed to be a bit calmer. Stephanie was dying of thirst and wished that she'd asked Derrik for some soda or something but didn't want to take advantage of his sweetness.

She glanced over at him and he seemed tense. It was sorta cute. "Gummy bear?" she offered as she pulled a red one out of the box and held it up to his lips. She was hoping to calm him down because she had actually been having fun flirting with him, til he got all self concious.

"That would probably be on the third date."

He heard that and god it didn’t help his brain work any better. Suddenly he was thinking about the third date and where she might be applying that tongue. Jesus this was going to be a long night. At least he was not thinking about his shoulder and the –throb throb throb- associated with it. He tried to calm down and focus on the movie. Not the fact that the seats were too small and he could feel Steph right next to him. Shit he could smell her. Ugh this was torture.

"Gummy bear?"

He felt her fingers brush his lips and turned his eyes to her own. She could see him relax visibly as he spoke softly so as not to bother the other patrons. “I’ve been called worse” He offered and then plucked the gummy bear from her fingers with his teeth gently. Making sure to graise the tips of her fingers with his teeth as he did it. Chewing the gummy bear quietly he turned to Steph and gave a little crooked grin.

“I’ve been called worse. Here I got a big drink so we could share. Don’t be shy, we have already shared gummy bears, we are practically married!”

So now he was trying to use gentle humor to deflect the situation. Anything to stop thinking about the ways that Stephanie would use her tongue on the third date; yeah that thought would totally lead him back into the realm of bumbling idiot. Lets not go there shall we?

“Ellie, did you want some popcorn? I would like to know on what date you bite.”

He shot her a playful wink.

Stephanie shuddered as chills ran down her spine when she felt Derriks teeth lightly graze against her fingertips. She was starting to find it real hard to concentrate on the movie.

“I’ve been called worse. Here I got a big drink so we could share. Don’t be shy, we have already shared gummy bears, we are practically married!”

Well, at least she didn't have to ask for something to drink. She couldn't help the small smile of amusement at Derriks gentle humor. Stephanie grabbed hold of the cup, leaning over slightly, her breasts lightly pressed against Derriks hand while her lips wrapped and around the straw as she sucked up the fizzy fluid.

Normally, by now any guy whom she'd have mentioned what her second and third date would be like wouldve asked her out.

Not Derrik, noo he was asking Ellie what date she bit on. If Ellie wasn't dating a frat guy, she wouldve been worried.

"Id tell you..." Ellie started, "but my boyfriend would probably kick your ass and I don't do popcorn, thanks though."

Resisting the urge to smile, Steph turned her attention back to movie, taking one last sip, she turned to Derrik,"Thanks."
