Note: I’m pretty new to roleplaying generally, and have never posted on this forum before. I would really appreciate feedback on my writing style or ways of improving. Thanks.
Seeking 1 female to take part. The role is in a futuristic setting.
Eason Isaby
22
Dark blonde hair, muscular build, 5’ 11’
Eason was dozing; his head back against the wall of his cell. In a place like this, the only thing left to do in the quietness of your cell was doze or let your thoughts take control. Some of the more vulnerable criminals, or those that had done something seriously wrong could be heard muttering to themselves, or even sobbing after a while.
Not Eason though. Not yet at least. He had a couple of very good reasons for not going down that route. For one thing, he’d not done anything as bad as most of the guys in here – guilty on two counts of theft, and one of commandeering a space vessel to attempt escape. And two, he knew that when he got out of here, he’d still be a young man, and could start afresh, away from the BS. Three years down, and if he was good, another 3 or 4 to go.
The familiar sound of the guard’s footsteps sounded outside in the hallway as he did his rounds. What wasn’t familiar was the sound of him stopping right outside Eason’s cell.
“Isaby, visitor for you.”
Eason opened his eyes, looked round. The slightly pot-bellied figure of one of the head guards was visible through the force-field preventing him from leaving. Wondering who would be coming to visit him, Eason started to get to his feet but-
“No, no need. He’s coming down here.”
That stopped Eason short. He straightened up anyway, giving the other man a quizzical look.
“Who is it?”
“You’ll see when he comes, won’t you?” There was a grin on the guards face. He always enjoyed being sarcastic or rude, knowing the prisoners had to keep their temper. Ass...
“Fine then.” Eason pulled the chair kept in the room so that it was in front of the transparent shield and took a seat, running his fingers through his hair as he did. It had been ages since he’d last had a visitor. His family lived the other side of the quadrant, coming to see him was hardly hop on the next passenger craft.
There was the sound of more footsteps now. Two sets, Eason realised after a moment. He waited, curious despite himself. After a few moments, two other men appeared in his viewline. One, he recognised as the tall, balding director of the prison. The other he didn’t recognise. He was powerfully built, and Eason was put in mind of a big grizzly bear.
“You two can go. I wish to talk to Mr Isaby without interference.” The man was softly spoken, but his words were clear. The guard looked almost disappointed, while the director looked indignant.
“I’m sorry Sir, but if you are going to take to a prisoner under my care-“
“This is a confidential matter, and that is the end of it.”
Eason couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows just slightly. After a moments silence, the director signalled to the guard, and both of them walked away. The stranger waited until their footsteps had died away before speaking.
“You are Eason Isaby, correct?”
Eason nodded the affirmative.
“Mr Isaby, my name is Marcus Picoult, and I am a representative of the International League of Defence and Protection. I trust you’ve heard of us before?”
“Well... yeah, my father used to work for you as a translator.” Right before he got smashed into a million tiny little pieces at some conference...
“Quite so.” Picoult moved closer to the forcefield. “I have been informed that he taught you some of the languages he had studied and learnt. Specifically, E’yean?”
“Yes...” Eason was wondering where this was going.
“Are you fluent in E’yean?”
“Pretty much, he taught me all he knew.” Eason got to his feet “Much as i’m enjoying the questioning, why are you asking me about this?”
“Well, it’s quite simple. The ILDP has recently been getting into conflict with the indigenous population of a small planet in the Northern Quadrant. We have learnt that they speak a dialect of E’yean, but no-one of our translators knows enough to speak with them effectively. Add to that the fact that we’ve recently apprehended a female warrior of their tribe, and are awaiting the chance to question her. The long and short of this is... We want you to come and join our team, in exchange for your sentence being quashed once you have helped this.”
Eason blinked. He hadn’t been expecting that. After a few moments weighing his options, he asked slowly...
“What’s the catch? You expect me to believe that if I do as you want, you’ll just let me walk free?”
“It’s the truth. You’ll be a free man. And you’ll be handsomely rewarded. This is a key mission for the ILDP, and the importance of knowing where we stand is crucial. If it wasn’t so crucial, I won’t not be giving you such as offer. What do you say?”
Eason paused for a little longer, still uncertain whether there was some catch, something he wasn’t seeing.
“I need time to think about this-“
“I need an answer today. Now. If you say yes, you’ll be out of here by tonight.”
Eason hesitated for one second longer, and then finally said
“Where do I sign up?”
(If you’re interested, please PM. I’m looking for a female to play the captive. Note, there will be more for me to add, but I need a little information from you about who you’ll be playing before I can do so. Humanoid type characters only please, that’s my only rule)
