So I'm skeptical when it comes to charities and their intention as to where exactly the donations go. Whether or not someone, somewhere is making money off of this charity, I must say I'm a lot less skeptical after today.

A long time client has a 17 year old son with C.P. They put in a request to Make-A-Wish two years ago and recently heard back from them.

Make-A-Wish is sending him and his family (wife and 3 kids) to Disneyworld for 10 days. All expenses paid including a 2 room suite with all the amenities. Not only all of that, but also gave him $2000.00 in spending money. They even shuttle the family to and from airports.

I was pretty touched because I've known this family for 12 years. Next time I make a donation, I know where it's going.

"Shuttle the family"?

When was this written? 1974?

I call bullshit. You invented the story. I never happened.

I've always been skeptical of how the funds are distributed as well, in any charity...

Good to hear a first hand story...

If you want to use your money to do some good in the world, think about it, decide who needs your money, and give it to them. Forget the tax code, the big organization with pathetic looking dogs and oil soaked birds. Give your money to people who you know need it.

I am always suspicious of the elderly bearded guys on TV who hold frightened looking "orphans" in their arms, telling you that you get a picture of the kid you sponsor. Maybe it's just because I grew up on Lit, but it creeps me out.

The young man died in his sleep last night. At least his wish was granted. Nineteen years old.

R.I.P.

ETA: I thought he was 17, I was informed today by my client's assistant he was nineteen.

Awww, so very sad. Glad he got his wish though. I'll keep his family and friends in my prayers, what an awful event to deal with.

Anytime anyone can be made happy in this world, no matter the age or circumstances, it's a good thing. None of us know if we'll die in our sleep tonight...

I'm sorry to hear that. Too damn young.

I know a family in Edmonton that got a last wish as well.

It's a good charity, except a few years ago they started getting a little goofy about stuff. A kid wanted to go bear hunting and the refused to acknowledge his request as they were opposed to hunting.

Anyway, somehow Jim Shockey (highly successful Vancouver island bear guide)heard about it, took it upon himself to contact the family, arranged the hunt, a bunch of guys off the 24hourcampfire.com donated airfare. The kid got his bear and died shortly afterwards.
