[OOC: This is a closed thread for Lady_of_Roses and myself. I hope you enjoy our little tale.]
Ronald listened to the soft creak of the leather as he tried to remain perfectly still in the soft chair. His excitement and doubts warred equally for dominance in his mind over what was about to occur.
'When I commit to this, I will need to commit to it fully. There will be no room for shirking my responsibilities. This is an all or nothing situation. I have lost count of the number of times we have talked about it, sometimes at length, and have been in agreement, only to have circumstances wreck the chance.'
Ronald peered over at the door, waiting for her to come back from her trip to take care of herself. All they had done was talk, once more face to face, sounding each other out, trying to confirm the other's commitment without actually coming out and asking fully.
'God, man! How many times have you been through this? You know what she's asking, you've confirmed it often enough. She has said she's willing, so why the continual cold feet?'
Another series of creaks and rubbing broke his delicate train of thoughts. Ronald softly chuckled at his own fidgeting, trying to settle himself before his companion returned.
'It's not like I'm forcing her into this. Nor am I kidnapping her or doing anything else illegal. It's all agreed to, and there are provisions for her to back out. Plus, I have everything to look after her properly while she's here.
'Yeah, I'm scared about the responsibilities involved. Fully taking care of someone else to a degree that isn't normally seen. Not to mention the fear of fucking up. Making mistakes is acceptable, because they can be learned from.
'Oh, just quit it. I've made up my mind. I'm committed and I will make it work, one way or another.'
Ronald felt himself relax, comfortably sinking into the chair. He let his eyes close for a few seconds, feeling his body return to normal. During that time, his companion returned, taking her seat opposite him. He smiled as he opened his eyes.
"Well... I have finally decided that there is only one way for you to go to achieve your end goals. The best way is for you to experience it first hand. To learn about it by doing it. That way, you will know if this is right for you." He gave her a reassuring smile. "There is nothing wrong in finding out it's not for you down the track, but speculating can't answer your questions.
"If you accept it, then you must know that you will need to commit yourself to this fully. We... we need to have faith in each other, as well as trust each other. If either of us fails in this regard, it wont work."
Ronald let his words sink in, before he broke the silence by leaning forward in a chorus of creaking and complaining leather.
"Are you ready to take the journey? Are you ready to walk the long, dark path and discover what lies at the end?"
