Coney Island's amusement park days were seemingly numbered. But, not only are they opening a new one - they're in effect "re-opening" the most showy and popular park that ever called the island home.
Luna Park had quite a history for those not in the know - they once did a great documentary on it on PBS. This place had more light bulbs than Edison's imagination (which was the main reason it burnt down a few times; the final major burn in 1944 closed the place for good). They once used all that electricity to put a "mad elephant" to death via electrocution in the park grounds.
So, it won't be quite on the original site, but it looks like they've copied some of the old structures to fit the theme of the first Luna Park. The big story here is bringing back amusement parks to Coney Island...
