It was a friday night and 18 year old Kim Holland was browsing through a bookstore. She literally had no life and she was feeling sorry for herself again. By all means, Kim wasn't ugly, she just had a bad time when it came to men.

Her last boyfriend cheated on her with the slut of the school.

Ah well, that was Kim's life. A day late and a dollar short. So here she was at the bookstore, indulging herself in the fictious lives of others who seemed to have a happy ending no matter what.

Looking for one male to hit on Kim and perhaps take her out for coffee then perhaps go from there. Just an easy going thread, no rush, response length should be reasonable. :cattail:

Lance had come to the bookstore that night.....well because he had nothing better to do. He was just a laid back recluse kind of guy. He was an even six fit. With a wide muscular form. With no life he had plenty of time to go to the gym. He was a twenty five year old bachelor. He had done some grad school and just moved here for a job, so he had an excuse to be a loser, or so he told himself

Then he saw her. She was just drop dead. Beautiful face and a lean curvy body. He just couldn't resist going over to her. He ran his fingers through his short golden brown hair and took a deep breath. Heading over in subtle manner just picking through titles he made his way toward her

"Evening. Do you enjoy Jordans works" he asked as he saw the author of a group of books she was looking at nhe remembered not to check them out at first, or at least not till there is a zero chance of getting caught

Pushing her glasses up to the bridge of her nose, Kim offered the man a small smile as she nodded, "Oh well, sometimes." She found herself taking small quick glances at the man, he was quite attractive and that made her nervous, "I mean, I am just as much as anyone else. Though sometimes his work can be a little too gruesome." She smiled at him.

"What about you?" Kim asked, finding it quite easy to talk to ask him a question. He seemed to have an air about him that she found relaxing. He was obviously older than her but that didn't bother Kim, she was just surprised he was talkng to her....not that there were a lot of people to talk to tonight.

"Oh come on don't tell me you don't like all the gore. Reading one of his books is like watching a zombie movie or one of these kidnapped and tortured tourist movies. It has it's moments and there are always times I love reading his works" he told her as he kept repeating his mantra. He had told himself he wouldn't check out her body. And when he saw her, the bookcase was in the way nhe wondered how such a beautiful girl was at a bookstore tonight

"So what has got you hooked so bad your not out on a night like tonight. Is it the new Lumley book. Oh wait please tell me your not here for Harry potter!" he said jokingly as he turned to look at some of the authors in the section she had been eyeing, it was a fantasy sci fi section and he knew quite alot of these books

"Well, I like the gruesome stuff to a point," she said with a laugh, "But my tastes vary depending on my mood and well, my mood tonight is...uncertain. Uncertain because I just found out my boyfriend cheated on me with some other girl and I just needed a place to escape is all. Since I'm not much of a party girl, this is my hideaway from the world." She told him as she relaxed a bit. She was also wondering the same about him....what in the world was a handsome guy like this doing out at the bookstore?

It was then she noticed what section she was in, and secretly, Kim was a sci-fi geek at heart! She never really let anyone know this because--well, let's face it, scifi geeks were just that, geeks. It wasn't something she was ashamed of, it was just something that some didn't understand.

"Well damn I'm sorry. I can certainly understand why your here then. No better place then someone elses fantasy world to forget this one for awhile" he told her with a smile. Scooting a little closer he noticed the soft sweet scent of her soap and he found himself shocked. Who would do that to this pretty girl

"Well I would suggest this" he said handing her a murderous fantasy book with a food heroine

"It will help you vent some of that. Wow well if your not doing anything. Why don't we. Get a cup of coffee and you can vent a little. I too sadly have nothing to do. I new in town so maybe you know somewhere close. " he asked with his best charming smile

"Oh really? Well, I don't want to impose. I mean you're new in town and well, I don't want to give you a bad impression that all us women are blubbering fools in a bookstore with cheating boyfriends."

Feeling perfectly at ease, Kim smiled, "And," she took the book and could only laugh lightly, "I hate to say, but I umm..I read this all ready." They looked at each other and could only laugh. And it felt good to laugh. "I know a place just around the corner and I insist you let me buy if you're going to sit around and hear my sob story."

"Well I must tell you that you would not be imposing, besides who doesn't like a good drama right?" he asked with a smile that was still lit up from her charm

"Besides it will be good to know where a decent coffee joint is around here. So did you like it then, I mean the book?" he asked her as they stepped out into the warm evening air. His khakis and t shirt clung to his body as a quick breeze picked up feelng refreshing against his skin

"I do love the summer nights. Don't you. Any chance there is a patio at this place"

"I enjoyed the book a lot," she said with a smile. Kim was dressed in a faded tshirt that she had gotten from her older sister and her black jeans fit like a second skin as she walked around from behind the bookshelf. Since she wasn't expecting to meet anyone, her face was free of makeup also but she was glad to see that her new friend didn't mind one bit.

She wasn't surprise to see that he was a lot taller than her 5'2", 110 frame, but then again, that wasn't unusual since most people were taller than Kim. "I do believe they have a patio," she said, soon they came upon the coffee shop which really was literally around the corner.

Kim was flattered that he held the door open for her but was even more impressed when he held her chair out for her as she took a seat. When both were seated, Kim held out her hand over the table, "By the way, I'm Kim."

"Hello Kim, I'm Lance" he said as he took her hand extending out to his. Her skin was soft and silky and very small in his.

"I have never noticed this place, and I live just around the comer. So what kind of coffee girl are you? Straight black or sugar and cream" he said with a smile. They then got their coffees and headed out to the patio. The soft noises of the street filled the warm air as their cups poured hot steamy mist from their dark roasts into the air

"So go ahead and lay the story on me sister. Cause it's just impossible I think someone would do thatto such a beautiful girl"

"Nice to meet you Mr. Lance," Kim replied coyly. She took her cup of coffee and poured just a drop of cream in it and then 5 packets of sugar to follow. She noticed Lance was watching her every move.

It was a beautiful night. A night where one could see every star in the sky no matter how deep you were in the city. Kim blushed when Lance said she was beautiful. He was either very slick or he was being truthful. Because Kim didn't think she was that good looking, nor did she think she was butt ugly either.

Before she spoke, she took a sip of coffee, "Well, I found out earlier today that my 'boyfriend' cheated on me with Laura, she's the slut of the school and really, it was no surprise!" Kim shrugged as she took another sip from her cup, "I mean, really, if that's what he likes, he's welcome to have her." Kim said uncertainly. Deep down she was hurt--not because he cheated on her but the fact that she didn't see him for who he really was.

"So, enough about me Lance, what's your story? You said you're new in town--so where did you move from? Tell me about Lance." She told him earnestly.

"Well Lance is one of my favorite crackers" he replied with a soft chuckle at the pahetic joke

"I actually just ot out a grad school. It was a school for engineering in Colorado. So now I am hee looking for a job. I know, I know. I'm to good looking to be a nerd. But I am one" he drank in her smile as she gave another pity laugh at the pathetic jokes. Her smile was worth all of the cheap shots he took at himself

Kim couldn't help but laugh. She needed to laugh tonight. She didn't want drama tonight, she just wanted to have a good time.

"Well, Lance the engineering nerd meets Kim the sci-fi geek. A match made in heaven!" Kim said with a laugh as she finished off her coffee.

They talked for a while longer and before they knew it, the small late night coffee shop was closing up.

Lance enjoyed this woman. They definitely synched on a more basic and fundamental plane of his being. He had laughed with her and joked with her, watching her eyes sparkle with every smile and the small dimle she had. She was cute.

He saw the signs around them of. A pleasant coffee joint trying to politely omy they wanted to leave too

"Well then, shall we continue this conversation elsewhere? My apartment is right around the corner, we could keep the coffee rollng, what do you say?" je asked her as he took a chance. Let's see if she is perhaps just as inclined to his company as he was with hers

"Your apartment?" Kim asked hesitantly. She studied Lance and finally decided, why not? It was just for coffee right? They had so much to talk about so far, there was no reason it couldn't continue at his place. "Sure, why not?" She said as she walked beside him.

Within no time, there were at his place, it was a nice little apartment on the second floor and it over looked a quiet street. As they entered, he had gone to make some coffee and so Kim walked into the living area and found it to be quite a man's space. There were men's magazines around and a few engineering books also. It was quite cozy. Kim took a seat on the couch and felt relaxed so far.

The brief stroll to his place had continuedthe nights delightful conversation. She was a geek of his level. They had too much in common, and so the evning continued on as he let hr in his place, thanking god that some urgeto clean had overtaken him today and his apartment was actually presntable. He left her in the living room to go get a pot started and found himself busily working to get some hot Joe running for them. After a few minutes of toiling

"Now I know what it looks like but I am sorry you cannot use my books as coasters" he told her as he saw her eyeing the texts strewn a out his coffee table as he took a seat next to her

"The saddest part is that I think this will be the first time this coffee table is used for coffee" he said with a chuckle as he turned to face her

"So can I ask you what attracted you to this guy anyway, I mean what are you onto or after with chasing him" he asked her kind of point blank, but he felt that he had come to know her well enoughh that it was a fair question

Kim laughed and gave him a half shrug, "You know, I have no idea. He asked me out and I thought he was nice--things had been serious for a couple of months then this."

She rested her head on her hand, not noticing that they were only inches apart, "He had been pressuring me for the past few days and I just didn't want to. Not that I'm a prude or anything," she gave him a nervous laugh, "It's just, I want to move forward when I want. Does that make sense?" She could smell the coffee brewing and it smelled wonderful.

"Well I can only frown upon someone who starts pressuring. Either the idea , or whatever, feels right is just someone inwould avoid" hensaidnas with a soft smile as his nose took in the scent of her hair

"So there is no real characteristic that you tend to. Otice first, or go for?" he asked in an attempt to turn the conversation a little less personal, in case it was gettig a little too intense for her

Kim looked down at her hands and thought about it. "Well, I'm not really sure," she said after a few minutes, "I mean, I guess when it happens, it happens. I really don't think it's something one can plan for. I mean, what if it ends up disappointing? I hate being disappointed." She then laughed and shook her head, "I don't mean to sound greedy, it's just how I see things."

"What about you Lance? Would you plan it or just go for it?" Kim asked quietly, "Is there someone special in your life? Perhaps you left her behind to move to the big city?" There was a little humor in her question.

"Well honestly for me, if it's right you got to go for it, you'll never know til you give it a try. But I mean what catches your eye about a guy, what is the first thng you notice on a guy when you meet him for the first time?" he asked her with a smile as he heard a small beeping going off

"As for the other, no there is nobody. " jentold her as he got up and went to tueoitchen tonget thencoffee, before leaving

"I guess the coffee is ready, I'll be right back" he then went and got a few mugs and a traly with sweeteners andnall that. He brought back to mugs of coffee and the tray

After he returned with the tray, Kim was busy making her coffee as she thought about what he asked. What did she look for in a guy?

"Well, I'm not too sure...." she said as she poured cream, a lot of cream, into her coffee followed by a lot of sugar. She didn't notice he was looking at her in shock at how she made her coffee. Kim laughed, "Yeah, don't ask..."

With her cup in hand, she leaned back against the couch and took a sip before answering him, "Well, I look for someone who knows how to carry on a conversation. Not someone who greets you with 'Yo dawg' or 'Wassup?'" she made a face, "Those get to me, I swear it's like some guys have forgotten how to speak." She giggled, "I also look for someone who likes me for me and doesn't try to change me. Someone who accepts me for what I like and I tell you, my tastes are so far out there, like tonight, at the bookstore. I don't think he's ever gone with me to the bookstore or worst yet, I don't think he's ever been in a bookstore."

"And you know, I'm not the prettiest girl out there and I'm certainly not the ugliest either so I'm not going to change how I dress or fix my hair or even start wearing tons of make-up." She finished with conviction.

"I mist beg differ on one thing, you are indeed one of the prettiest out there." he told her with a smile as she spoke on more of the physical characteristics she prefferred in men

Kim blushed as she set her coffee cup down, "Yeah, sure--" she said with a laugh, not believing him, "You're just saying that." She smiled and settled back on the couch.

"Well I'd o have the habit of telling strangers the truth, but then again we are not exactly strangers any more I guess. But you apparently need to come to terms with the fact that you are a pretty woman" he told her before taking a sip of his steamy coffee

"So I like matins work too and I figure you have to have read him. What do you think of hisnraw style and the way he writes his sexual ncounters. He gets more vivid and descriptive then the other authors, do you feel that adds to the book ortakes away when he writes about the s

Kim laughed and nodded, "No, we're not exactly strangers anymore." She said as she tucked her legs under her, "As for his writing style. I adore it! He keeps you hanging on and just when you think you've got it all figured out, he throws you for a loop!!" With the last word, Kim clapped her hands together hard, nearly getting Lance's nose in the process.

"Oh, I am so sorry!" She said with a giggle. Suddenly she couldn't contain herself as she could picture almost smacking his nose.
