I know we discussed this in the huge thread, but i got to page ten and still hadn't found it. I give up.

Can someone please help me? I know I was told there were certain candles that should be used, and others that the wax will burn too hot.

Any suggestions?

Yes, I've heard there are candles that specifically made for sexual use. I believe I have even seen a selection at some web site "shops", but I couldn't tell you exactly where. I'm sure some one else will know.

I've always used regular candles - both tapers and votives - and have been happy with them. The trick is knowing how close or far to hold the candles from the body to achieve a comfortable level of warmth. When first starting out, the Dom I was with would hold the candles fairly high, testing my tolerance, then gradually bring the candles closer to my body. I hate the sensation of being burned, but found I could actually get pleasure from hot wax dripping from just a few inches from my skin.

Since i've gone looking for that exact info a time or two since it was posted, i knew sorta where to look. The wax/candle discussion begins on page 12 but the main body of the discussion is on page 14.

Here's the table i posted there back then:

http://www.bdsm-peergroup.com/Resou...t_Wax_Play.html

Melting Points

First, lets talk a little about the types of wax and the temperatures at which they become liquid (melt). The following table describes different types of waxes, based on their additive content, in what form they might likely be found and their initial melting points:

Wax type..........Where Found..........Melt Points

Raw parafin................Canning wax, bulk..............115° - 126°F
(soft)

Votive candles............Cylinders up to 6 in............131° - 141°F
(harder)

Taper candles..............Candlesticks....................141°F +
(hard)..........................Table candles

Hurricane lamp.................................................154°F +
(hard)

Beeswax....................Numerous candle
(waxy to hard)...........styles, bulk........................146°F +

Note: Seems obvious, but one should hold that burning candle up WAY high before allowing it to drip. That allows the 141°F + table candle wax drops to cool down just a teensey bit before they hit our skin.

Good pain is good.
Bad pain is bad.

In my book, 141°F = bad pain.

I have been lucky, we have one of those wax machines that they have in nail salons(the kind they dumk your hands into)........It sits on the night stand and is always ready to use.

Not to hot ....just right to use a small pill cup and scoop out a little to dribble where evere you might want it............They are great if anyone can get there hands on one do it, you won't be sorry.....;)

BAD pain?

I saw that cym sin.

There shoudl be candles that burn at about 100F too, I cant tell you off hand what they are but those you can pretty much play everwhere with...

Now you guys know I'm going to miss spell this but I'm pretty sure it is parafin wax that you want...............

Don't forget the higher you hold the candle the cooler it will be when it hits the body...........You hold close it will be hotter............

You guys are awesome, and i knew, just knew cym would know what page it was on.

Had not even thought about those wax things for manicures... hmmmmm. Wonder is they sell those at Walmart.

I am sober and have nothing in my system but dinner and I swear the post from cym wasn't there when I posted......Maybe I'm seeing things..............

Maybe you should have had a few.

Sorry about that Merelan...................................really couldn't hurt huh.......lol
 ;)

Don't know....never been spanked.................I am the spanker not the spanke.......
Always up to try something new.........:p

I just wanted to add to Cym's wax melting point. A new type of candle that is extremly popular for decoratin, is a gel candle. I make these.

The melting point on Gel wax veries on density used, but averages between 175 and 225 degrees fariheit.

The wax stays in liquid form alot longer, and WILL scar.

Now THAT is way to high a comfort level for me. ;)

Yippee, I had wondered just how to do the manicure wax without making a mess. These are sold at Walmart and many drug stores. The wax can be scented or not. It provides a very comfortable heat and the clean up off of the skin is easy. Not so sure about clean up from other surfaces. They run about $40+ and can be found on eBay.

In case ya'll haven't figured it out, I am an eBad girl.

After Gilly posted with her ictures I forgot what the heck I had asked.
Geesh woman, give the rest of us a chance.... drooling....

Okay, no, no gel. I know how damn hot that can be. No thanks. I like the manicure idea, and won't need to explain anything odd.

Making a list to take with me to Walmart today. Though I hate the place. Too many kids. Maybe I will wait till the middle of the night and go to the 24 hour one?

Or yes, Ebay. Never heard of it. Hiding all the packages in room with a big sheet.

What? Addicted? not me.

-grins- What? Those pics at the bottom are distracting???
-boggles-

I had never thought about using a parafin machine. That would work rather nicely, though. I may just have to get me one of those.... The toys you can come up with in the least likely of places... :)

That sounds wonderful -- is it paraffin?

I've been thinking about using wax on my sub, as I would love to see what pretty designs I could make on him. I'm worried about removal of the wax afterwards, though. Does it pull out all the body hair? We're not really into hair-pulling so I'd probably have to either shave him first or only put it on hairless places (and that's no fun!) if it does stick to the hairs...

What about sealing wax, like the sticks you get to seal letters?

Parafin candles are the way to go. Most grocery stores here have a Jewish or at least a kosher section. They use parafin candles exclusively in their synagogues. They're very simple white candles, but certainly hot enough to do the job. Then, all you need is a little ice for hot and cold effect and you're all ready to go. ;)

We have been experimenting with those dollar store candles,...

You know that ones... they come in the tall glass containers and come in assorted colors... They are the religious ones...

They are easy to pour... don't burn too hot... and you can light them and let them burn for a bit and then blow them out...

Himself has done some wonderful artwork with them... and then there is that sudden splash of hot wax... and then unexpected cold of the ice....

Yummmm....

Oh nonononononono.. Very very hot, very bad burns.. The modern sealing wax sticks have a high polymer content and they have a much higher melting point. A Domme once told me that in general, when you're looking at candles for wax play, the harder the are, the hotter they need to get. We tried wax play once, with regular a parrafin candle; my skin reacted too strongly. So next on the toy list is a wax bath like was mentioned above.

(No, D never tried sealing wax; I use that all the time for letters. But I spilled it on my fingers once and blistered them. Gods, I'm so kinky, wax for letters, not me!)
