[Read that thread title again; this is for a specific audience. If you're not that audience and you have issue with it, that's your fault.] *nod*
Since I'm about to leave for good, I'm going to say an early goodbye specifically to the 4 or 5 members with multiple alts who've spent (and continue to spend) countless months, days, and hours of energy on posts at Lit dedicated to me. I owe them that much!
I was raised in a family where equality and tolerance weren't just a "moral" - it was something my parents demonstrated in front of me daily. My family brought me up to believe that people with anger directed at those of a different race oftentimes were ignorant, unfulfilled, and desperate to make an impact on a world that, to the credit of progess, was somewhat leaving their kind behind.
Early on, I had some sharp, clever criticism for racists like Cade Is Here and the few folks of his ilk who frequented this place and sought to spread a viral message. I stuck in their sides. Since then, they've been on a three-year campaign to do whatever they can to make me look bad - from alt claims to racism claims. None have ever stuck. And, even though no one of decent intelligence has bought into a word they've said, they continue. You might see it either as positive or negative impact but, regardless, it's a major impact nonetheless. I kept a few assholes from sleeping by using a keyboard - that's amazing to me.
I thank them for vindicating me in my worldview about this particular subject. I thank them for making me relevant when I otherwise wouldn't have been. I thank them for all the PMs I got as a result of their trolling, which led me to meet some awesome people. And I thank them for demonstrating that words still have power.
(Also somewhat satisfying: I thank them for demonstrating that, during my absence since January, they didn't ease up on their spam - something a few members had claimed would happen.)
Adios, Stormfront.org malcontents and jealous loners. It was a great little guilty pleasure along the way.
Flame on...
