Is it just me?

He can hit me with all his might with the crop and I love it.

I hate the cane, even when he's using it quite gently.

The crop leaves deep bruises. The cane leaves no marks at all after an hour or two.

And yet the pain from the cane is something I just don't seem to be able to take.
 
Canes are really, really harsh. I can't handle more than one or two strokes.
 
Aha! And I've been feeling bad for crawling away after a dozen lol!

Now I feel less of a wimp!
 
A little bit goes a long way with a cane. I think sometimes people forget that you don't have to whack the shit out of the other person to get a reaction. I'm the other way around, though. I can tolerate both, but I prefer the cane, at least with a perceptive partner.
 
I feel like its also not totally fair to compare a tolerence for a crop to tolereance of a cane. totally different animal.
 
I've found more partners who loved the cane and hated the crop than vice versa. Of course, that may have something to do with the different ways I use them :devil:

The crop, for me, is a tantalizer, a teaser, a torture: Using just the slapper portion, either focusing on one particular spot for a few strokes or popping it hither, thither and yon with no discernible pattern or rhythm, I can use it to drive a partner batshiat crazy in just a couple of minutes. I like that. :D

With the cane, however (when focusing on buttocks and backs of thighs), there is a rhythm, and most often a pattern to the strokes, to amplify/intensify the sensations by allowing my target to fully absorb one stroke's impact and the sensations that come from it before the next stroke lands. The pattern tends to avoid repetitive strokes, either in force or landing area, and to seek out new flesh to strike. (Note: This does not apply when using a cane on breasts, belly or front of the thighs! I'm not entirely sure why the difference, but it's one I've noticed over the years.)

Most of my partners have been able to reach subspace while being caned; I've never had a partner get anywhere close to it while I was cropping them. I like both just about equally :D because they allow me to reach separate goals - mental sadism as much as the physical with the crop, and mental stimulation along with the physical with the cane. It all depends on my mood which way I decide to go.

Yes, I suppose a lot will depend on who's wielding the cane/crop, and what his MO is... I feel as I have described above with both the men who have caned/cropped me, though, even though they are different men with different MOs.
 
The cane makes such lovely welts; it's like a paintbrush to the artist. Careful marking with a cane IMHO can turn a sub's ass into an erotic masterpiece that drives me wild. Surely a little pain can be endured for the sake of art. Suffering for art is a long and noble tradition after all :D

But seriously, canes, like other percussion instruments come in various levels of evil. You can start with a lightweight cane, the sensation is the same but not as intense. And the cane, even more then other toys, should be built up slowly and rhythmically to allow the endorphins to dull the pain. Using a cane full force from the first strike is very cruel and unbearable by anyone but the hardest painslut.

I :heart: the cane. I only really like the riding crop if he hits me with the stick part of it, which actually makes it a cane. Canes tend to be heavier and leave deeper bruising. Crops can leave immediate superficial marks, but they aren't usually deep bruising.

The fist two pics are from a riding crop. The third is from a cane. Big difference.

ETA. On me. I know everyone isn't the same

I don't have much tolerance for the crop. Actually, I have weird skin that doesn't have much tolerance for a lot of things that other people really like. It's very hard for me to find a happy medium with the crop. It's either annoying, or it hurts. There's not much of an in-between.

That can be true of the cane, too, but it seems to produce a greater range of sensation on my weird skin. :p

I tend to dislike things that work mostly on the surface of the skin, like crops and wax play and TENS units and violet wands and such. I prefer things that hurt deeper like floggers, incredibly tight breast bondage, canes, and heavy clamps.
 
Honestly, I can't tell much difference between the two when I'm hit with my own items, but my crop is fairly slim in shape.

I think a lot of this may be psychological? Crops are sexier, and I say this as a caning enthusiast.

This, THIS, is how you properly cane, ladies and gentleman. Randomly whacking is just irritating, anyway, as a top or a bottom.

No really sometimes he just hammers away, and sometimes he makes it more sensual. It just depends on the moment. I like both.

I was responding largely to the repeated exclamations of fear, and testimonies of crying like a baby. The cane is not a one-note instrument. Sir Winston mentioned this, and I've watched Evil Geoff do it in person.

Amen to the bolded part... but really, that can apply to *anything* we use. It depends on our motivation and the amount of thought we want to put into it.
