New Feature For Authors in BETA: Recent Activity

Hey Everyone -

Yeah, me again. I know I've been bothering you a lot lately. That's because some of the stuff we've been working on for years (or decades or centuries) is finally coming to fruition.

This message is to announce the launch of yet another feature. This one is in BETA mode, so please post a lot of feedback and don't get too angry if it doesn't work exactly as expected quite yet. Also, this is just half of the feature - the private part. There is a public part of this feature that will be coming up in the not-too-distant future.

But, enough warnings and excuses - please meet the Recent Activity feature:

In theory, this feature should allow you to easily see the recent activity on your submissions all in one place.

We believe this feature will allow authors to keep a better eye on who's commenting on your stories, who's favoriting them, etc. And, hopefully, when you can more easily tell what's going on with the activity on the stories, you can also more easily interact with the readers who are fans of your stories.

Again, this feature is seriously BETA, so we really need your feedback - good, bad, or anywhere in between. Please tell me what you like, what you hate, and what we should do to improve it. I know the design sucks a bit right now, but design improvements are all in the works as well. For now, I'm really interested in getting feedback on the way it works and how it can be improved.

The BETA of this feature currently only shows the following activity types:

Comments on Stories/Poems
Favoriting of Stories/Poems
Favoriting of Authors

If you think that you do have that type of activity in the last 30 days and it's not showing it, which is possible because we're still in testing, please send me a PM with details and I'll try to figure out what's going wrong.

manu, that looks pretty spiffy. unfortunately, i haven't had any activity lately so i'm curious what the other, more prolific authors might have to say about this. :>

Wow. I wish I'd written something recently. Is there a way to find out everyone who "favorited" you?

I've had activity recently. Mostly people adding me or my stories to their favorites list. And twice a person took a story off a favorites list.

There is one entry that has no information. From the icon I guess the person took something off a favorites list but it doesn't say what.

Well, I know I've had none of that going on in the last 30 days, so the system is working perfectly.

Looks like we have two confirmed bug reports already:

1. The dates seem to be off by one month for some reason (says "May" means "June") - checking what's up with this now.

2. When someone removes an author from their Favorites list, it shows a broken heart, but no text. Will check this next.

Rather bizarrely--cos I haven't added any new stories here for a few months--I've had a few new comments on my existing stories in the last week or two. I don't know why, unless it has something to do with the new format of the toplists. Not knocking it, you understand--I'm very grateful!

And yes, the new feature is great (even if May's supposed to be June!). It's really good to be able to see who's left a comment recently so that I can say thank you!

I've always wanted a feature like this, and I know some of the more prolific authors have wanted it as well. It would be nice if the recent activity would also include votes...other than that, it seems to be working well for me!

Consider me another point of confirmation

Broken heart, no text.

I got the same problem that the broken heart doesn't show any text. I guess it's from when someone removes you from their favorites list?

However, I love, love, LOVE this feature. One author in his bio (I forgot who) said something to the tune of "If you really like an author, add them to your favorites, because it's the one thing the damn trolls can never take away."

Which is very true, however, you never had any idea how many people have you on their favorites list.

Now you can see who added you, which is awesome. (I'd also love to see a feature where you can just find out who has you on their favorites list, at any time.)

Yeah, I saw a bunch of hearts telling me who's added me to their favorites list, as well as stories that have been favorited. But beside a couple of broken hearts, nothing. I assume that's someone taking me off their favorites list, because a story that was "un-favorited" had text telling me which story was unselected.

I think it's a cool feature, but I can see some thin-skinned authors emailing those who have taken them or their stories off their lists. Maybe we shouldn't be notified when someone has removed an author or one of their stories.

Excellent new feature.
I am not sure it is capturing all new comments on stories.
Broken hearts appeared, but no identification associated with them.

No broken hearts, so I can't comment on that part, but the rest looks good to me. I like it!

One broken heart no text, one broken heart with date who and what was un-favorited. I even found a comment i had missed. That part alone is well worth the feature. It can be a bitch to fine new comments with close to a hundred stories up.

I'm also getting the broken heart and no text thing.

It's nice to be able to see who commented without scrolling through the list and checking the number of comments. I've had a few comments on older stories that I wasn't aware of until today.

And I also agree with others who've said it'd be nice to see all the names of those who've added us as favorites or all of our stories/chapters that have been added as favorites, although for many, that'd be quite a long list!

And, count me with all the others. What a cool feature. Until now I had no idea anyone liked my story enough to favorite it!
