The Pact

Dean had been driving for three hours but with his music of Blue Oyster Cult, Don't fear the reaper playing he didn't care. Dean loved to drive his black Chevy Impala across the entire of America. Dean was 27 now with short brown spikey hair and a smile not many girls could resist.

"Hey Dean listen to this?"

Sam his dorky younger brother sat in the passenger seat and told of a group of five girls who had died in a girls boarding school in Louisana as he read the paper out. Sammy was only 24 and was way too tall for Dean too. Dean smiled thinking there maybe a job behind this as he spoke.

"You know what Sammy i think we should check it out."

And with that Dean put his boot down and sped the one hour drive to Lousiana.

As they arrived at the front of a massive building made out of old brick Sam turned to Dean asking.

"How are we going to sneak around in there?"

Dean smiles and points to the sign in the window Grounds Keepers wanted.
Sam glances back at Dean who smiles and gets out the car. Hour one later they both return to the Impala. As Dean smiles.

"We did it. We are gardeners your dream job Sammy. Lets check the place out tonight."

Sam flicked through the piles of papers on his knee, searching for a case as his brother switched between humming and singing to some old rock song.

"Hey Dean listen to this?"

Summarising the story he read it out to Dean. He could almost see the light flick on in the back of Dean's eyes when he mentioned girl's boarding school. That oh so familiar trouble makers smile spread across his brother's face.

"You know what Sammy i think we should check it out."

Sam rolled his eyes.

"It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact the case is in a dorm full of high school girls would it?" Sarcasm and slight disapproval edged his tone. But Dean seemed not to hear, too busy tapping his hands on the wheel to his music. With a lurch the Impala, true to it's name sake, bounded forward as Dean's foot hit the floor.

It took only an hour to reach Louisiana, but it was enough time for Sam to open up his laptop and began searching for details to the case on the internet.

Sam looked up only as the car came to a quick stop. Before them was a massive building, tall and foreboding made almost entirely of brick that Sam almost mistook for a prison except for it's lack of walls. Looking sceptically over at Dean he said,

"How are we going to sneak around in there?"

But his brother was looking at something near the gate, and Sam finally noticed the signpost. It advertised positions as groundskeepers. Sam was about to make a joke about it, when he noticed his brother getting out of the car. Scrambling to keep up Sam nearly dropped his computer in an attempt to get out of the Impala. Looking his brother up then down as he reached his side, his tone held nothing but skepticism.

"You can't be serious... you don't have a bit of gardening knowledge. Hell, you killed the cactus we had as kids!" But it seemed Dean was dead serious, for an hour later they left the small administration office as the brand new groundskeepers of a girls boarding school.

As they got back in the car, Dean had the nerve to look self-satisfied.

"We did it. We are gardeners your dream job Sammy. Lets check the place out tonight."

Sam could do little more than look at his brother incredulously. Of all his hair brained ideas, this one was one of the most stupid, and the only bonus Sam could see was that it wasn't dangerous... yet...

As his brother started the car with a smile still in place, Sam just looked at his brother unbelieving, mouth open. He remained like that as Dean sped off down the road into town to find another cheap motel.

Clara

Clara tucked her long black curls behind an ear and tried to focus on the physics problem in front of her. Tried not to see the pale, angry girl bleeding out in the corner. She recognized her, of course, they'd been classmates not a month earlier. Clara bit her lip, if the spirit didn't notice that she saw, she would be a lot safer. Even happy spirits could cause trouble trying to communicate, once they noticed she could see them.

And these were not happy spirits. Clara snuck another look over her shoulder. Still there. It was only a matter of time. She tried to keep her breathing even. They were getting more active, more agitated.

"Clara!" the teacher's voice was sharp. she'd missed something.
"Y-yes, m'sieur?" her musical Cajun accent shook with more than being startled.
"Demonstrate the problem for us. Up at the board."

Once more, Clara let herself be absorbed in the normal world, the real world. Wishing that was all she could see. She turned her back to the terrifying spirit, wishing that would be enough.

Later that night she got in trouble. The spirits noticed her, one hovered near her table making it impossible to eat. Their eyes met and the spirit knew. She swallowed slowly and tried to smile at some joke the other girls were giggling at. She fingered the little coarse bag in her pocket absently. Her grandmother had been a houdoun priestess, Clara had inherited her looks, her petite frame and large deep brown eyes, and her Sight. She had never really believed the little old lady, but was too scared of her to object when she insisted that Clara carry the hex bag. Something about possessing entities being fond of going after psychics. Clara shivered, she didn't want to be involved with any of this stuff, but she didn't want to be possessed either.

Where one spirit had haunted her physics class, and two wandered the dining hall, three stood around her bed, choking on their own blood and making her little room cold enough to see her breath in. She changed into her nightgown careful to hold onto the hex bag, unwilling to be parted from its protection. She wasn't going to get any sleep, her bedside lamp shining brightly late into the night.

"Please go away," she whispered. "Please, I can't help you, I don't know what you want." Ghosts never understand. The lamp picked up off the table and slammed into the wall and Clara screamed. cold hands grabbed at her and she too flew into a wall, dropping her little bag. "No! Noooo!" she screamed, and then she was cold, so, so cold. And angry.

Dean and Sam had gotten to the motel earlier that day and unpacked. Well if you could call it unpacking. Dean had only removed five shirts and put them on hangers in the wardrobe. Sam however as always unpacked his whole shoulder bag. Which meant Dean had to wait for him.

From there they both headed over to the diner across the street and had lunch. Sammy had beeon checking on his laptop for most of lunch meaning once Dean finished his double decker meat feast burger and fries. He then ended up eating most of Sammy's fries too.

Mid chewing Dean said.

"We will go and check round the school once we finish our food. But as we both know some spirits only come out at night. So we could check back to the school at night too."

Sammy glance up.

"Night time gardening Dean?"

Dean smiles showing as he finishes chewing.

"We leave some tools at the boarding school. Gardening tools not our tools. Then tonight if we get caught we were looking for them."

Sammy rolls his eyes as Dean asks the waiteress for the check and winks at her.

They pay the bill and head out to the Impala to begin the drive to the boarding school.

Three hours later they walk back into the motel as Dean throws his bag down on the bed.

"Well that was a complete waste of my time. I didn't even see one pillow fight."

Sammy looks at Dean.

"Dean?"

"Hey Sammy we do know something is going on at the school. Remember the classroom we walked in just after the lesson finished and the E.M.F meter went crazy. I think we got ourselves a spirit Sammy. Lets catch some sleep and head back tonight."

Later that night Dean and Sam are heading round the girls dorms after checking the classrooms to no reward.

Sam held the E.M.F meter and a pump action shotgun in his other hand Dean had his Sawn off shotgun out infront.

They took a couple of steps when they heard.

"No! Noooo!"

Dean charged for the noise and burst through the shut door on her left hand side as Sam put the E.M.F meter in his pocket and followed.

Dean saw a young girl against the wall of her room in a nightgown and then Dean saw the three ghosts moving away from the bed towards her. Dean fired a round of rock salt that dispursed the ghosts instantly.

He quickly runs over to the girl and kneels down as Sam glances round the room with his shotgun.

"Hey! Are you ok?"

"No! Noooo!"

Sam felt a chill run down his spine, and hurriedly putting away his EMF meter he took a better grip on the shotgun. Dean burst through the door shoulder first, to Sam's amusement not even seeing if it was open. Then he heard the shot of his brothers gun, and ran in to find a girl sitting in the corner, Dean kneeling over her.

"Hey! Are you ok?" His brother asked.

"Eerrrm Dean, no time for this now," Outside the halls were beginning to stir rather rapidly at the sound of gunfire. They were, afterall, in a girls dorm that was still currently in use. And there stood two new groundsman, in the middle of the night, in a girl's room, with shotguns.

Turning to go out the door he heard the sweeping footsteps of someone in authority. Running over to Dean in the corner, he suddenly wished Dean hadn't broken the door in, at least that might have bought them some privacy. Sam's eyes swept the room for anything that might have the girls identity. Seeing what he hoped was a diary he swiped it up and put it in his pocket. Then his eyes caught on a small hex bag, and he retrieved it from the ground as well, turning it over his curiousity got the better of him for a moment before he remembered their position.

He felt a soft buzzing as the EMF meter went haywire while he was next to the girl. Sudden realisation dawned. She's possessed. Hoping the Hex bag was for what he thought it was for, he forced it into her hands, and sure enough the bright spark of consciousness returned to her eyes.

This took precious seconds of their time, and grabbing his brother by the jacket, Sam dragged him to the window despite protests.

"What the hell are you doing Sammy?" swore Dean, anger and irritation in his tone.

"We gotta go, now! People heard the shot and we can't be caught here, and we can't go back the way we came. This is the only way out." Without anything further Sam opened the window and clambered out onto the narrow shelf. For a second he cursed the fact they were several stories up, a jump would surely break bone. Hoping Dean had the common sense to follow him, he began shimmying over to the drain that ran down the building, he just prayed it would support his weight. With a monumental effort he tried desperately to ignore the creaks and groans made by the pipe as he slowly descended. When he was close enough to the ground he jumped and hit the ground and rolled to his feet. Without looking back he sprinted back to the car, and jumping in the passengers seat. Leaning over he started it up, and waited impatiently for his brother to catch up with him, hoping he had not been caught.

Clara

"Hey! Are you ok?"

She smiled slowly at the man bending over her, stretching out her legs so her nightgown slid high on her thighs. Boys could be so useful. The shotgun had scared her sisters away, but she was safe now. So safe. And they would be back.

And then the other one brought that...thing... too close, touched her with it and she was forced out again, out into the cold.

Clara opened her eyes, her fingers closing tight around the hex bag, trying to make sense of the chaos. She grabs Dean's jacket sleeve, "Wait... who are you? what are you doing here?" Feet begin to pound down the hallway outside and her eyes went wide. "You should hurry, unless you want to end up hiding under my bed all night."

Dean watched as the girl quickly took the Hex bag and turned to him grabbing his jacket sleeve as she spoke.

"Wait... who are you? what are you doing here?"

Before Dean could even answer he saw Sammy climb out the window and heard footsteps getting closer. The girl spoke again.

"You should hurry, unless you want to end up hiding under my bed all night."

Before Dean could even move he heard the footsteps at the end of the corridor. The window would take to long. He jumped up heading for the bed.

"We are here to help."

Dean quickly got down and slid under the girls bed just as girls and a teacher come through the doorway.

Sam waited and waited, but his brother made no signs of returning. Cursing silently he slid over to the drivers side and kicked the car in gear, speeding off down the road. If Dean had been caught, it wouldn't be good to have the car found close by. He stopped when he reached what he considered to be a safe distance. Popping the trunk, he opened up the secret compartment and retrieved his pistol loaded with silver bullets and tucked it into his pants. Then he retrieved extra salt rounds for his shotgun. Last but not least he grabbed a steel hunting knife and strapped it to his calf under his jeans.

He set off at a jog, back towards the school. He hung to the shadows, and hid when he heard sirens and red and blue flashing lights that signaled the arrival of the police. He only hoped the Impala was far enough away to escape suspicion.

He became even more cautious as he neared the perimeter of the school, but was pleased to see only two squad cars. If they had any reason to suspect the gunman was still in the building, the place would be surrounded. As it was, Sam was carrying a loaded shotgun, albeit with salt, a knife and pistol. He was hardly conspicuous. So he jogged around the side of the dorms, and, once well removed from any possible inquisitive eyes, began to scale the side of the Dorm.

It didn't take him long to reach the floor him and Dean had been on earlier, and was desperately glad for the chaos and confusion. He managed to slip into what he assumed was an unused room. But the signs of habitation were not very old, only a few weeks at most. Upon closer inspection he noticed the markings of a former crime scene, and judging from the fingerprint dust on almost everything, as well as the circle of chalk that no dout outlined a pool of blood. He realised with a slight chill this was the room of one of the deceased girls.


Now he was standing still and not tense from creeping around, he noticed a small buzzing in his pocket. Pulling out the E.M.F meter, it was going haywire.

"Oh fu-" he began, right before a spirit materialised in front of him. He raised the shotgun and was right about to pull the trigger when he realised he'd definitely be found this time if he shot. Instead he reached into his pocket and pulled out a shotgun shell, breaking it apart and pouring the salt into his hand. The spirit slowly advanced on him, and as soon as she was close enough he flung some of the salt into her ethereal face. Flickering from view, Sam knew it wouldn't be long till she was back, so he broke open a few more of his precious shells and drew a circle around him, determined to wait until the commotion in the hallway was settled and everyone returned to bed.

Then go search for his brother.
