"What do you mean you have to work late?" the brunette demanded into her cell phone, "We've had these plans for weeks and you're just now telling me you can't make it. I'm already at your place." She paused as she listened to her shithead boyfriend explain that there was nothing he could do. "Fine," she snapped, "I guess I see where I stand in your priorities. I'll talk to you later." With a sigh of frustration, she snapped her phone closed and tossed it on the table in front of her.

Lately Mike had been spending more and more time at work. She'd seen more of his best friend/roommate, Jimmy, than she had seen of her own boyfriend. Bella couldn't help but wonder if there was something other than work keeping him from her. Shaking her head slightly at the thought, she figured there was no way Mike would cheat on her. If he was, she was going to be pissed off, especially since she hadn't even wanted the little prick at first. Her eyes had been on Jimmy, at least until she had found out about his girlfriend. But that had been a while ago, now he was single and she was the one in a relationship. One that was pretty damned shitty at the moment.

"I can't believe he stood me up again," she whispered out loud as she caught her reflection in one of the windows. She had actually taken extra time getting ready for their date. Her hair was artfully tousled, while her make up was punched up slightly to go with the fancy night they had planned. She'd chosen a flirty plum silk dress that barely hit her at mid-thigh and left her arms and shoulders practically bare.

Bella couldn't understand why she kept putting up with Mike's shit. It wasn't as if he rocked her socks off in bed. It wasn't that he wasn't good, he just got kind of boring after a while. He had no imagination and tended to stick with things she had gotten tired of with her first lover five years ago. The only reason she had been climaxing with Mike lately was because she could hear Jimmy fucking his girl de jour. From the sound of it he liked it rough and inventive, which was right up her alley. She heard a door close, and knowing that it couldn't be Mike, she called out to Jimmy, "Your roommate's a prick."

When Bella showed up, Jimmy knew it was going to be an interesting evening. Mike was at work. He must have forgotten about their date, because he'd picked up a double at the restaurant and wouldn't be home till two AM. Fridays were like that sometimes.

It was a rare occasion for Jimmy: a Friday night with nothing going on. No good bands in town, no big party, no crazy event at a club, no hot date. He could always call up a booty call, but he wasn't really in the mood. He'd had a hell of a day at work; nothing had gone right at all. He kind of wanted to just hide in his room and play his guitar all night.

Of course, now the night was complicated. Jimmy walked out of the kitchen and looked at Bella. She was fuming, having just hung up her cell phone. And good god, but she looked hot. That mini-dress was just smoking, and her hair like that... Jimmy shook his head. At least she wouldn't try to get him to go out with her instead of Mike, not in the condition he was in. He still hadn't showered from his day on the construction job site; he was wearing mesh basketball shorts and a wifebeater, the wifebeater stained red in spots from the spaghetti sauce he was cooking up in the kitchen.

"Yeah, he's a prick, I know." He scratched his head and looked at her. "What else is new?"

"Nothing I guess. I still can't believe he stood me up and I had to call him to find out," Bella said with a soft sigh as she looked up at him and smiled softly. Jimmy was too hot for words and she was seriously regretting going out with Mike instead of just waiting for him to be single. She figured that at least Jimmy would let her know in advance if he couldn't make it to something they planned. She'd seen him do it with his last girlfriend.

Running a hand through her hair, she sighed softly and stated, "Looks like I'm at loose ends tonight. Do you mind if I hang out here for a while? I'd go out but I really don't want to do it alone." Sometimes when this happened, she'd ask Jimmy to go out with her but there was no way she was going to ask him to do that tonight. One day Mike was going to do what he did tonight and she was going to end up trying to fuck Jimmy. In fact...

Bella shook her head slightly and stopped that thought in it's tracks. As much as she wanted Jimmy, she wasn't sure if she could bring herself to cheat on a boyfriend. "It almost feels like he does this on purpose. It only happens on nights that we have scheduled dates. But if I just drop by he's always here. I don't get it," she said without thinking about it. It was a bad habit of hers but she just never grew out of it. "I'm at the point that I almost hate him for it..."

"Uh, sure, you can hang out as long as you want. Dinner'll be ready soon. But don't get any ideas about the TV, there's a hockey game I'm fixin' to watch that starts in about fifteen minutes," Jimmy said. "And hey, listen, I'm sure it's just that the weekend shifts at the restaurants are the most lucrative and, uh, I don't know, maybe he's saving up to get you something nice?" Jimmy went back into the kitchen to tend to his dinner.

"The shifts he gets during the week are usually pretty slow, I know that. He's always bitching about them. And the tips suck. He's lucky I've got steady, solid income, I've picked up his slack on rent and bills more than a few times." Jimmy shook his head. Maybe he shouldn't be telling Mike's girlfriend about Mike's money troubles. He changed the subject.

"Uh, want some spaghetti? I just put the noodles on, they'll be ready in, uh, seven or eight minutes, I think."

Bella could see that she had kind of gotten Jimmy talking about something he wasn't sure he was supposed to be talking about, so she let him change the subject without a word about it. "Spaghetti sounds great. I didn't bother to eat before I came over because we were supposed to go out to dinner. And I don't mind watching the hockey game. So long as you're willing to explain it to me," she told him with a soft smile.

She wasn't really dressed for a night in, but she did have some more clothes in Mike's room. "Do you mind if I go change? While this dress is one of the hottest I own, it not really a stay in and watch the hockey game outfit," she teased with a smile. Truthfully she would love it if he could come up with something more inventive to do, but now was not the time for all that. Or maybe it was.

It had been weeks since Mike had even tried to do anything sexual with her and she was a little needy. But she was not going to try and seduce his best friend...at least she hoped she wasn't going to.

"That's a shame," Jimmy said. "At least keep the dress on for dinner, won't ya? And I think I got one of my old hockey jerseys in my closet if you want to wear that for watching the game," he offered, stirring the sauce. He looked over at her, his eyes running up and down her incredibly attractive form. He'd always known that she had been into him when they'd first met. It had been kind of obvious, but a friend of his had confirmed it. He had had that girlfriend, though, and he thought he was in love or some other such bullshit.

He stirred his sauce. "Hey, come here and tell me if this needs some more garlic," he said after taking a taste. He dipped the wooden spoon in the sauce and came up with a bit for her to taste. He held the steaming sauce out for her.

"That would be great. Maybe that will get me in the mood...for the game," she told him with a pleasant smile. She'd seen how he looked her up and down, and now she was pretty sure if something happened between them tonight she wasn't going to regret it. She might feeling guilty in the morning but she was not going to regret it.

Bella walked towards him and came to a stop in front of him. She leaned forward slightly, keeping her eyes on his, and tasted the sauce. "Just a little bit more garlic," she told him, "And maybe a little salt. It's pretty good for a guy." She leaned back and rested a hip against the counter.

He raised an eyebrow at her but said, "Thanks," and added a couple dashes of salt and a few shakes of garlic powder to the mix. He stirred the noodles in the boiling water. "Sorry I'm not a little more nicely dressed. Or, uh, showered, for that matter," he said. "Didn't think I'd be having company, uh, but, not that I'm complaining."

He retrieved a noodle from the pot and took a bite out of it. "Pretty close. Another minute or so," he said. He turned and looked at her again. He knew she was frisky in bed... he'd been able to hear her the first times she had hooked up with Mike. She had been a little... loud. He hadn't heard much of that anymore, though. He wondered if Mike had asked her to be quiet when they knew he was home. Not that Jimmy had ever done that for them. He tended to go for girls that were screamers, and though it was fun to gag them, he preferred to be able to hear them.

Maybe that was it, maybe Mike was gagging her. Nah, couldn't be.

"Well, I apologize in advance for a really boring evening. I'm usually quite a bit more exciting than this, but today was rough and I just need to lay low tonight."

"I don't mind. Why was today so rough? Did one of your flavors of the moment figure out that you weren't going to be her steady boyfriend?" Bella teased lightly as she watched him.

She had no clue what he was thinking about, but if she had she would have set him straight. He wasn't hearing her screaming because since those first few weeks there had been nothing to scream about. Things had gotten to be routine in the bedroom and she was bored. She was lucky if she was able to get off at all, which wasn't most of the time. Usually she faked it just as Mike was cuming and she'd tell him he was so good. In the past month, there was nothing at all that would make her have to even fake it. Mike hadn't touched her and she was seriously thinking that there was another girl.

"Do you know if Mike has been...with another girl lately?" Bella asked softly. She couldn't help the question as it popped out of her mouth, but she wasn't going to take back the question. She needed to know.

Jimmy turned the burner off under the pasta. He shook his head at her question and lied. "Mikey? With some other girl? C'mon, give me a break." He poured the pasta into a strainer, steam rising up in a cloud around him from the sink. "He's not a cheat."

Jimmy couldn't tell her the truth that Mike had confided in him. That he'd started having a fling with one of the hostesses at the restaurant. Jimmy had told him that he ought to tell Bella and just break it off, but apparently Mike hadn't done that yet. Jimmy dropped the noodles back in the pot and then poured the sauce on top and started mixing it all together. He grabbed a plate and scooped out a good-size mess of spaghetti and handed it to Bella.

"Bon appetit," he said. "I think there's some parmesan cheese in the fridge." He spooned himself a big plate of pasta and grabbed some utensils. He placed them on the kitchen table and then grabbed a beer from the fridge. "Beer?" he asked her.

"Beer would be great," she said softly as she walked over to the kitchen table, not completely sure she believed what he said about Mike. Sure he'd never been much of a cheat, but she'd been with enough guyss to know that if they weren't getting sex with their girlfriend there was probably someone else in the picture. Something had changed and she was pretty sure it was something on Mike's part.

"You're probably right....I'm just being paranoid that we haven't been doing things we usually do," Bella said with a soft sigh, trying not to look down in the dumps, as she picked up one of the forks he had grabbed. She played with her food while she waited for him to take his seat. She hadn't never been able to eat unless the person she was with was sitting down and eating as well. It was probably more of a self-conscience thing rather than a politeness thing.

"Right," Jimmy said, grabbing a couple of Bud Selects from the fridge. He twisted off the tops on both of them and handed her one as he sat down. "Paranoid," he nodded. He smiled at her. "Well, honestly, it's kinda nice to have some company for dinner. I'm sorry about your date. I know Mikey can be a little absent-minded sometimes. But he means well, I'm sure."

"I'll take your word for it. He's just been so distant lately..." Bella said as she took a sip of her beer, 'But we're not going to spend tonight talking about him. Tonight I just want to forget that he's my boyfriend, that way I have no reason to be mad." She hadn't meant it the way it might have sounded, but she wasn't going to take the words back either.

She ran a hand through her hair and watched Jimmy for just a minute. Bella couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if she had ended up dating him instead. It was an errant thought that always popped into her mind when Mike was pissing her off. Whatever she came up with, she was pretty sure it wasn't what would really have happened.

Jimmy smiled a devious smile at her for a moment, but then shook off the naughty ideas that had run through his head when she said she wanted to forget she had a boyfriend. I'd be more than happy to help you forget all about him... He took a bite of his pasta and another drink of beer.

"Alright," he said after swallowing it down. "No boyfriend troubles, no worries, just hanging out with a friend and watching a game. Hockey's plenty exciting, there's always something happening, so that should help keep your mind off him." He finished his beer and got up, tossing the bottle in the trash and grabbing another out of the fridge. "Another beer?" he asked her.

Bella smiled at the fact that he was humoring her. She took a couple of bites of spaghetti and ended up finishing her beer off. Looking up at his question, she nodded her head slightly, "Yes please." She was being way too polite but she couldn't help it. She may like him more than she liked anyone else, but she had always been polite even if she was comfortable with him.

"Why was your day so rough?" she asked, realizing that he had never answered her earlier question.

"Oh, shit, yeah." He sat down and slid her beer across the table to her and took a drink of his own. "God, it was just one of those days where everything seemed to go wrong. Nothing was lining up right, guys were doing stupid shit. I don't know, everything was just extra difficult for some reason. I was just happy to get out of there and start the weekend. At least I finally have one. I've been working a lot of overtime lately. Everyone has. The project's a bit behind schedule. That's probably why things were screwy today, everyone's just tired of working so god damn much."

He finished off his pasta and took another swig of his beer. "But this certainly helps," he said, swirling his beer in the bottle a bit and smiling at her.

Smiling slightly at his words, she took another sip of her beer. It was a little strange for them to be acting like this, but at least no one else was here at the moment. "Sounds like it was pretty rough. At least you get to spend tonight with a pretty girl," she teased. Bella couldn't help the teasing, she'd always liked teasing him just a little bit. One day she was probably going to go to far.

"Nothin' wrong with that," Jimmy said, smiling at her, his eyes lingering on her a bit too long. "I've certainly never minded the scenery when you're around." He took another drink of his beer. "And again, I apologize I'm so boring tonight. I wish there was something fun going on and I could show you a good time and really make you forget your troubles, but, oh, I don't know, maybe we can go hit a bar later after the game. Or maybe to catch the third period. Speaking of the game, I think it's starting." He stood up and took his plate over to the sink and quickly rinsed it off. "You all done?" he asked her.

She was tempted to tell him that there was something very fun they could do never leaving the apartment, but instead she just said, "I'm all done." She took the last bite of her food and then took her plate to the sink. Walking back to the table, she picked up her beer and took another swig as she watched him for a second. She was still tempted to say something about what else they could do, but she hadn't had nearly enough drinks to do that.

"Now all I need is that jersey and I'll do a quick change. Then I'll be all set for the game," she told him.

"Oh, sure, no problem." He turned off the water. "It's, uh, just in my room," he said, brushing past her as he did. He walked down the hall and went into his bedroom. It was a bit of a mess, his bed unmade, dirty clothes in a pile around the hamper, a few beer bottles on the floor next to his bed. "I, uh, haven't had much time to clean up around here, with all the overtime," h said as he opened his closet door and looked through the hanging clothes. He found his old jersey from high school. It was red with white and black stripes and a big wolf's head on the front. On the back was the number 1. It was pretty big, because he was the goalie and those jerseys had to be extra-huge to contain all the upper-body padding goalies wore. It would easily hang down to mid-thigh on Bella. He gave it a quick sniff and discovered it was clean so he took it off the hanger. "Here ya go," he said, handing it to her. He grabbed a jersey for himself, of the St. Louis Blues, the local pro team they were gonna be watching, and pulled it on over his head.

"Thanks. And the room really isn't that bad," she told him as she looked around. She didn't feel like going to the bathroom to change so she just slipped the jersey on over her head without putting her arms through the sleeves. Luckily, the shirt was big enough that she could just shimmy out of the dress. When she finished, her dress was at her feet and she bent down to pick it up after slipping her arms into the sleeves.

The jersey was huge on her. The sleeve went well past her arms. and the hem hit her just below mid-thigh. She pushed the sleeves up to her elbows and ran a hand through her hair. She knew enough about the game to know that this wasn't a professionals jersey, which meant it was one of his from when he played. Something he probably didn't think she knew, but Mike had told her when she had been digging for information.

"Come on, let's go turn on the game. You can explain it as it goes," she said with a soft smile as she tossed her dress on his bed.

Jimmy pulled his Blues jersey down over his head and looked over at Bella in time to see her little plum purple dress fall to the ground at her feet. He watched her pick it up and then toss it casually on his bed, almost as if she expected to be back in his room later to get it.

"Come on, let's go turn on the game. You can explain it as it goes,"

"Sure," he said, and led her out of his bedroom and back out to the front living room. He turned on the TV after he crashed down on the sofa. They were just about to drop the puck for the opening face off. "So, there's five guys to a side, plus a goalie. See that little black disc? That's the puck. The whole point of the game is to get the puck into the other team's goal more times than they get it in yours. See how they all have sticks? You have to swat the puck into the goal with the stick. Can't use your hands."

Bella laughed softly at his explaination. She knew it was mostly because she asked him to explain it. "Okay...I'm following it well enough so far. What's with all the padding...they look like boxes," she siad with a soft frown. She was going to play the ditz at this point, it wasn't like she really understood more than the basic of the game. But the same could be said of her with any other sport. She knew nothing about types of plays or penalties.

"Yeah, well, the padding comes in handy," Jimmy said. "Because, well, you know, it helps a lot if you get hit with the puck, ouch! Like that guy just did. Or if somebody decided to be an asshole and swings their stick at you. See, you can't do that. That ought to be two minutes for slashing. If somebody gets a penalty, they have to go sit in the penalty box for two minutes. Did you ever have 'time out' when you were in grade school? It's kinda like that. And all your buddies have to play against the other team short one man, because you're in the box."

"So it really is more of a punishmen than just sitting in the box. I never got that before," Bella said with a smile. She was starting to understand the game a little more but she was still a little confused on some parts.

"I get that hitting someone with the stick is a penalty. But there have to be more than just that, right?" she asked, looking away from the tv briefly. She was surprised to find herself having so much fun watching a sporting event. If she'd been with Mike, she would have sat there confused as to why he was screaming at the tv.
