Steve Back picked up the helmet and placed it on his head. His full body VR suit was now ready for another day of play. He hit a few buttons on his computer and then pulled the visor down. He pushed the button on the side of his helmet and was suddenly in the lobby of his favorite game.
He was very good at the game. In the real world he was a mixed martial artist. He was fairly good in that, but it was very dangerous. He had learned of the game world where there was all kinds of fighting styles with different rooms for each. He fought in the hand-to-hand fighting league and was in the top group. He had even unlocked the ability to go into the "anything goes" room for hand-to-hand. He played in tournaments and made enough money in them to live off of. After winning or placing in the top of a tournament he got the winnings wired to his bank account. He had a nice house and a good sized nest egg for a rainy day.
He knew most of the people that were able to go into the lobby where he was They were all top competitors. Newbies were not allowed in the top rank lobbies. He sat in a chair in his room which was clear of anything in case he got out of control and actually started moving a lot. The technology was good enough that one did not need to actually go through the motions, they could just send the mental command that would normally have the limbs move. He waited in the lobby for someone to challenge.
