Truth of Twilight (IC; OPEN)

Trees passed by in a blur. The limbs slapping against his rock hard flesh. Running like this was exhilarating. It made him feel more like the monster he is. He had just fed, something he did more frequently than the others. This life style was hard for him, but a necessity to survive in this world now. The humans kept better tabs on the human population. Communication had improved over the years. It wasn’t safe for a human just to disappear, especially with such a large family of vampires around. Local legends and all would make unwanted eyes turn to his family. Jasper couldn’t have that. Like the others, he didn’t want to disappoint Carlise or Esme and so when Alice told him to start feeding more often, he did. No one ever doubted Alice’s visions. Sometimes they didn’t happen exactly as she saw them, but it usually was pretty accurate.

Alice hadn’t told him why, merely to trust her, and he did trust her…with his life. Edward had disappeared for reasons unknown. While it wasn’t out of character for a vampire to go off on their own from time to time, it was out of character for Edward to do it. They had made a home here in Forks, and Edward was disrupting it. Carlise assured them that all would be alright, and he had never before doubted Carlise, but Jasper couldn’t help but to be wary of it.

Edward had disappeared soon after the new girl came to school. It was the chief’s daughter, Bella. He didn’t have any classes with her, but he knew Edward did, and it was after the girls first day that Edward left. Jasper entered into the house yelling out Alice’s name. He would get some answers.

standing in a nearby room upstairs she couldn't help herself of hearing jasper approaching quickly from the forest. she slowly accended herself down the stairs oh so elegantly as he rushed in the door yelling for alice she gave him a smirk rolling her eyes tossing her long blonde hair over her shoulders.

she looked at him standing there clueless.
"you looking for alice? well she's not here at the moment."she watches as he slowly calms himself."let me guess you just went to feed? your eyes are looking more natural everytime you feed just a little bit more than the others."
she brushes her fingertips against the piano nearby just lightly enough to strike a chord instead of striking down on the keys like she usually would.

silently thinking along of what she thinks jasper wouldve been concerned about wanting to speak with alice there was only one thing that came to mind. Isabella Swan she of most didnt like the cheifs daughter "bella" is what she was called. Bella was making Edward become someone of whom she didn't know. He was out in the world somewhere right now because of her, beacuse of her blood boiling his vains.

she looked up at jasper wondering what was on his mind.

Meanwhile in La Push:

I had been in the garage again since after school had let out working on the rabbit. If only Billy hadn't sold the Chevy to Chief Swan to give to his daughter I could of bodged a few parts from it onto the Rabbit until I had the cash to buy the parts from the skip, at least it would have been running.

As I went to get a soda from the fridge I burst into laughter, “I bet that girl can’t even handle the Chevy” I might not have my license yet but I’m sure I could teach her a thing or two, I thought and imagined her arriving just outside the house begging for my expertise on the truck, I’m sure I’d be willing to help her out for a price. I kept this fantasy going in my head while I was working on the VW till Billy interrupted me saying he was going to sleep. I stumbled off to my room after helping him into bed later grinning to myself about my thoughts on Isabella; “I haven’t seen her in years, I bet she doesn’t even remember me” I mumble before jumping into my bed and waiting to fall asleep.

*Yay me! I can post again!*

Sometimes having visions was more of a burden than she could bear, but bear it she would because it might be the only thing that would save her family. Alice heaved a sigh and turned from the girl’s house. She ran through the woods until she reached the entrance to her family’s driveway. She slowed down to a walk, thinking about all she had seen. Isabella Swan was going to bring chaos and confusion to her family, but also so much joy and love. Alice smiled thinking of the golden haired child she had seen. A baby. One of their own. She sighed and the smile faded from her face. The child was only one of many possibilities. Until Edward and Isabella came to a decision on how they felt about each other, the child would remain in only a possibility. Slowly walking up the steps of the front porch, Alice heard a voice and stopped to listen.

"You looking for Alice? Well, she's not here at the moment. Let me guess, you just went to feed? Your eyes are looking more natural every time you feed just a little bit more than the others."

Alice heaved a sigh. Rosalie was pissed off. Again. And taking it out on Jasper. “If I had to guess what she’s angry about, I would bet it’s Edward’s departure.” Rosalie liked change the least of the group and unfortunately she was smart enough to know why Edward left without a word. Alice braced herself for another temper tantrum and entered the house.

Rosalie gives a smile hearing Alice outside she takes her attention from Jasper to the door,"why, here she is now"she watches Alice approach"Jasper seemed furious when coming in from his afternoon feeding, i'm thinking he wants answers Alice, you'd be the one to give them to him, so give them to him"

Rosalie gives a smirk tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder as she leaves the room finding something better to do, waiting for Carlisle,Esme, and her beloved Emmett to return home from their trip out west due to old friends.

Alice stared at Rosalie’s retreating back. This was only going to get worse before it got better. Putting Rosalie’s attitude behind her, Alice turned her attention to Jasper. He looked much better now than he did before at school. His eyes were back to their golden color, not the inky black they were when he was hungry. She smiled at him and walked towards him, noting the tension in his body. She stopped in front of him and touched his chest, waiting for his questions.

“Did Edward leave because of the new girl, the Chief’s daughter?”

“Yes. He feels a pull towards her he can’t explain and it frightens him.”

“Will he come back?”

Alice looked up at Jasper in shock hearing the hurt and betrayal in his voice. He wasn’t looking at her, but at a space over her head. She knew that he was finally thinking of them as family, but had no idea he would feel so hurt if one of them left. She leaned into him, putting her head on his chest. “He’ll be back. He just needs some time. He has to convince himself that she isn’t important, that this pull towards her is a fluke.”

Jasper looked down at Alice. “Is it a fluke?” He wanted it to be. If it was more than that this girl could ruin his family. The only one he had ever truly known. Alice looked up at him and sadly shook her head. “You know as well as I do this isn’t a fluke.” She sighed and backed away from him. “My visions aren’t very clear. I see two paths. One of them leads to Edward and Isabella’s happiness, the other to misery and pain for the both of them. Our family will either become united in a way we have never been, stronger than we have ever been, or we will fall apart. Until they make up their minds, I can’t see much more than that.” She didn’t want to mention the baby. Rosalie was still nearby and no matter how much she hated someone, she would use them to gain a child. It was the one thing she had always wanted.

Sensing she was hiding something Jasper pulled her back to his chest. “ If she can make our family stronger, I’ll support anything you say. I trust you with my life.” Alice smiled and turned to face him. She gave him a quick kiss on the mouth. “Good. Than stay away from her. You aren’t strong enough to resist human blood yet.” With that Alice skipped out the back door and into the woods. She needed to hunt. Tomorrow was going to be a big day for all of them.

Jasper didn’t doubt her words at all. After watching her go, he just stood there like a statue. Alice, ever optimistic Alice would see the good in this. That is what she would hope for. He had to see the doom in it. This was next to impossible to even comprehend. Edward had always been alone and now he wanted this. Obviously he was having difficulties accepting it as well. Even Jasper felt as though he was running from nothing other than himself. If the girl was indeed buried into Edward the way it was appearing to be, then there would be no way that Edward would ever get her out of his head. It'd be like getting Alice out of his head. It would never happen.

Alice ran through the woods feeling the wind whip through her hair. She laughed, a pleasant sound, like the gentle tinkling of wind chimes. She could smell her prey. It ran for all it was worth, but it’s speed would not be enough to save it today. Alice burst through the trees and into the clearing seeing the doe head for the spring. Alice had enough of the chase and brought the doe down, quickly ending it’s life. She ate quickly and then placed the doe’s body near the den of a pack of wolves. She turned and started back for the house. She knew Jasper was not happy about the Edward, Isabella situation but knew eventually he would come around. Alice smiled. She would finally have someone to pamper. Bella did not look like the kind of girl would owned a dress, much less wore one. But that would change. With any luck Bella would be her new sister and she would teach her the ways of the fashionista if killed her. Satisfied with her thoughts, Alice entered the house to seek out Jasper. She needed help picking out a dress for school today.

Jasper heard Alice approach the house once more, and so he settled down onto the stairs and waited on her to come. He was having major issues about Alice’s visions, and not only because being around a human was difficult. That he could deal with. He did it every day. It was because of the trouble he knew it would bring down upon the family. He was a strategist, and there was no way he could foresee this happening. He didn’t need Alice’s visions to tell him the outcome. When and if Bella ever found what Edward was, she would expose them all, and while most won’t believe her, there will be the select few that would. It was those few he was worried about.

He sat there unblinking, barely even breathing in the air. These were things that weren’t a necessity to him. Being at complete ease was what home was about. Jasper vowed if Edward didn’t return soon, he would go find him. Tomorrow….that simple word rang in his head…

Alice ran into the house and around the corner. She saw Jasper sitting on the steps, deep in thought. She sighed, and went to sit beside him. She knew what he was worried about. Once a solider, always a solider. He was analyzing the situation from every possible angle and whatever he saw concerned him. She waited for him to give voice to his thoughts.

Several minutes passed before he turned to the patient Alice, his eyes staring into hers for a moment before he spoke in a deep velvety voice.

“Will she be like you are to me and like Emmett is to Rosalie? Will she be his other half? If so, I’ll fight for her, not against her. If not, you must know I‘m not for this, Alice.”

Instinct told him to eliminate the threat, but what bit of humanity he felt told him to leave it be and let Edward have what he so very rightly deserves. Edward would have to change the girl. That in itself wasn’t easy, not without killing her because one becomes overcome with it. Only one of them has that ability, and Carlisle might not even be willing.

“No, she won’t be like I am to you or Emmett to Rosalie. She’ll be much more.” Alice stood up and began to pace the floor in front of him. She hated when her visions weren’t complete or foggy. She needed to know if they would end up together, if they would be safe, if they would remain with the family. Would Isabella turn on them? What was this blind spot she encountered when she saw Isabella? What help could visions be if she couldn’t see the complete picture? She turned to back to find Jasper looking at her with cautious eyes. When he spoke, his words chilled her.

“If he wants her, he’ll have to change her. And you know it won’t be easy; it may kill her. Not to mention that Carlisle may not want to do it.”

Alice had given that thought. There was no way for Edward and Isabella to be together long term if she was still human. But would she want to give up her humanity? Would she even accept Edward? Alice rubbed her temples. Between the visions, the uncertainty, and the questions, she was getting a headache. She needed to find a quiet spot to sit down.

Alice’s words didn’t not surprise him. They should have all seen this coming. Granted, he hadn’t thought Edward would have ran from it as he had, but they all knew about Edward’ uncertainties about where his soul is. So, this girl would be more to Edward than what the rest of them was to one another. His golden eyes followed Alice’s movement and he couldn’t even comprehend such a thought. Alice and this family was his everything.

Standing, he walked over to Alice, circling her waste with his arm and pulling her to him. Leaning down, he placed a gentle kiss on top of her head. He didn’t say anything, he knew the burdens the visions carried and the aftermath result. He wasn’t a man of many words, but Alice knew he was there for her. Turning her so that he was now facing him, he wrapped his other around her waist and looked down at her, his eyes searching hers and coming straight into contact with the worry she felt. With a sigh, he pulled her head to his chest and let a wave of calmness wash over her.

Alice felt a wave of calmness wash over her. All of her fears and insecurities faded away and she knew that Jasper was using his gift to calm her. Most times she hated when he did that. Then there were times like this. Alice took a deep breath, inhaling his scent. He smelled of pine, fresh air, and faintly of blood. When her head was finally clear she took a step back and smiled at him. She took in his tousled dark hair, and his liquid golden eyes. She placed a hand to his chest and traced a scar she could see above the opening of his shirt. Even with all the scars he carried she still thought he was the most beautiful man she had every seen. Not that he believed her when she told him. She stood on her tiptoes and pulled on his shirt wanting him to bend down and kiss her.

Meanwhile, Bella at school:

Bella arrived at school early with the intention of still looking for Edward Cullen. Again, disappointment greeted her as she pulled her loud truck into the parking spot and quickly shut off the engine so as to not draw anymore attention to herself. The disappointment was overwhelming, yet there was a bit of relief. She was not certain if she could handle his looks of hatred. Just the thought made her shudder.

Looking through the rain covered window of the truck, she noticed there were only several cars around, but none of the Cullens. How she wanted to see Mr. Shiny Volvo. Bella needed to confront him. What had she ever did to him? With a sigh of frustration, she threw open the heavy door to the truck, gathering her bag, she jumped out, her booted feet instantly landing in a mud puddle. With a roll of her eyes, she muttered “great” and turned to slam the truck door. This day looked as promising as the others.

Ah, she had let him do it. That was a rarity. A teasing smile played on hi perfect lips at her defeat as he watched her trace his scars. Her touch did things to him he could never imagine as a mortal. A chuckle escaped him as she tugged on his shirt. Wrapping his hands around the nap of her neck, he bent down to tease her lovely lips with the tip of his tongue, before taking the lower one in between his own, sucking on it gently. With his free arm, he pulled her to him and lifted her so that she was now looking down on him as he parted her lips with his tongue and began kissing her with built up passion. Soon, he broke the kiss, but kept her pulled to him. His golden eyes were filled with laughter as he looked up to her now and spoke in a sing song voice.

“What a way to distract me.”

Leaning up, he nipped at her nose with his teeth playfully before burying face into her hair, inhaling her intoxicating scent that drove him mad with need. Gently, he let her body slide down his, enjoying every curve of her petite frame.

Alice shivered as she slid down Jasper’s body. Everything about him made her tingle with need. His smile, his laugh, his touch…Sometimes she thought she would explode with need. She wanted to continue kissing him and began tugging on his shirt again when she heard Rosalie’s mocking laughter. How she had forgotten Rosalie was in the house escaped her, but she chalked it up to being overwhelmed and undersexed. She sighed. It seemed that fate was against them having some alone time. It was for the best, they still needed to get dressed and on their way to school. She would seriously have to suggest they get away for a few days. They needed the time alone and besides, when they were together they were always a bit destructive. She ran her hand down Jasper’s body hearing him gasp as she gave the very male part of him a quick squeeze and a pat. She smiled up at him, filling it with a promise of unending passion. He growled and tried to tighten his hold on her but she giggled and quickly slid away. She ran upstairs and into her room, slamming the door shut and locking it. She really needed to get dressed before they were late for school. She quickly changed out her blood stained dress and into the new flowing blue summer one she picked up from the mall the month before. She heard Jasper banging on her door and she laughed. She had hoped that Carlisle, Esme, and Emmett would have returned home from their trip out west to visit old friends by now, but she was certain they would return by lunch. Edward hadn't yet made his mind up one way or the other; he would return when he saw fit. She hoped that she would bump into Bella while at school because she was certain that once Edward returned it would be almost impossible to speak to the girl.

Edward

ooc Sorry about the delay. :( I've been on a weird sleep schedule lately, well that and trying to figure out Edward. Anyhow

ic

pulling into the school parking lot fifteen minutes late. Edward slowly ran to his class trying to dust off the remains of his meal chase. taking his seat in the back
he sighed. Why now. Why did love have to find him now. And with a mortal girl who it would seem invite only tragedy. He tried to pay attention, but it was useless. Bella just kept popping into his mind. This will never end well.

Bella managed to make it through the dreary day with an attitude that matched it. Now, she was walking to lunch listening to a babbling Jessica. Occasionally, she would offer an “uh huh” or a nod of her head, or even an “what did he say”, but in truth her mind wasn’t on Jessica’s useless chatter. It was on Edward. As she walked into the cafeteria, her eyes instantly went to “their” table. It was empty, but she was early. Maybe they were in line. Again, her eyes scanned the entire room, looking for the beautiful one that hated her so…

Jasper had somehow made it through Alice’s endless teasing and they had made it to school. Late, but late is better than never. Right? Rosalie wasn’t too happy about being late and Emmett could care less. Edward had insisted driving his own car, insisting that he needed time alone. Whatever he needed. Jasper understood completely what Edward was going through. He wasn’t sure if Alice had seen Edward returning or not because she didn’t say anything about it. He must have made a split second decision.

The same ‘ole routine was in place. They were standing in line filling their trays with food that they would not eat when he caught the scent of something worth his mouth watering over. It was the girl. Worried eyes looked down at Alice as his body grew stiff and he held his breath as much as possible. Edward wasn’t in the cafeteria yet but Jasper was certain he would be soon.

Edward

At lunch he got a tray and yet again filled with food he would never eat to keep up the deception of humanity that sometimes felt like such a farce. He moved to sit with his family. He may love Bella, but it was time to face facts, Vampire-human love was painful and futile. It could only end in pain. "hey guys, have a good day?" making small talk to distract him from the crushed look on Bella face.

By now Jasper was sitting at the table tense, his back straight, and his eyes darting all around. Edward's mood was odd, and for once he wished he was the one with the mind reading ability. Clearly, it was a facade, and a poor one at that. After Edward spoke, Jasper glanced over at the table that Bella was now sitting at, then looked back to Edward with a snort as he leaned forward and crushed a chip between his white fingers. Jasper was the first to answer.

"Same old day, just slightly differen't. You know....like your odd behavior and the fact that you can't stop looking over at Bella Swain. You came back, so I guess you aren't running from it anymore but exactly what do you plan to do?"

Usually Jasper was the silent one, but this had something to do with them all and if that girl was going to be around, he was going to need to feed every chance he got.

The entire day flew by on much too fast for Alice. Something was wrong and she couldn’t put her finger on. Edward’s return was exciting because he had finally decided to do something about Bella Swan, but there was something amiss with the day. She and the others were standing in line for lunch when she felt Jasper stiffen next to her. She didn’t bother turning around, she could smell her from here. She grabbed Jasper’s hand and gave it a squeeze. She smiled at the lunch lady in front of her. “Can I get a slice of pizza please?” She took the pizza and moved on down the line. She sat at the table with the others and started picking at her pizza.

"Hey guys, have a good day?" Alice looked up, shocked that Edward was actually speaking. She looked around the table and saw looks of shock on everyone’s face besides Jasper. He still looked tense and uncomfortable. He leaned forward and spoke, effectively breaking the silence.

"Same old day, just slightly different. You know....like your odd behavior and the fact that you can't stop looking over at Bella Swain. You came back, so I guess you aren't running from it anymore but exactly what do you plan to do?"

Alice opened her mouth to berate Jasper for being so blunt and stopped before she spoke. It was a legitimate question and once that she too wanted the answer to. She looked down at her pizza again and noticed that she had been tearing words out of it. The only one that was clear was ‘hunter’. She quickly tore up the pizza and looked at Edward waiting for his response.

Edward

sighing "I don't know yet," looking at Jasper "wish I could say" He cuts his pizza into geometric shapes, then rolls them up. "For now I think its best if Bella and I stay apart. One can never be sure the others won't hear about her. And I couldn't stand to see her hurt in any way, nor see any of you in danger because of my heart"
