This game takes place in the same world as the Pokemon anime, but without the Pokemon. Instead, humans fight each other using elemental powers similar to the abilities of Pokemon.
For thousands of years, people have been collecting Dragon Orbs, crystal spheres of various sizes and colors scattered all over the planet. It is said they are the essences of the ancient dragons deep within the Earth. The essences push their way to the surface, and then turn into the Orbs. They give humans special powers, determined by the size and color of the Orb. Certain Orbs are common, others are rare, and some only manifest during a specific event or situation.
Orbs are always rising to the surface, so people all over the world constantly collect them. They are used for various things, such as medical care, research and development, powering technology, arming soldiers, and even forms of art. Fighters also use the Dragon Orbs to compete in battles with each other, which is what this game focuses on.
Once someone touches an Orb, they can draw power from it so long as it remains in close proximity, such as in a backpack or on a belt. There is no limit to how many Orbs one can have, but they can only have six active at any given time. The human body cannot handle more than six powers at once. The size of an Orb determines how powerful it is, from about a marble to as big as a baseball. The color determines what power it has:
Red: Fire
Blue: Water
White: Ice
Blue w/ White Swirls: Healing
Yellow: Lightning
Deep Red: Stamina
Orange: Speed
Dark Orange: Strength
Dark Brown: Rock
Light Brown: Sand
Green: Plant
Light Blue: Air
Deep Green: Poison
White w/ Red Swirls: Sight
White w/ Green Swirls: Hearing
Purple: Psychic
Silver: Steel
Gold: Sun
Crystal Clear: Invisibility
Multicolored Swirls: Shapeshifting
Crystal Clear w/White Swirls: Teleportation
Deep Purple: Shadow
Black: Dark (forbidden in most tournaments)
So, these are the 23 known types of Dragon Orbs. The characters can have a sort of class, and I will explain about the Orbs in more detail through the mouth of the instructor in the IC.
Once a young boy or girl turns thirteen, they can become a Dragon Page. To become this, they must venture to the International Dragon League headquarters for their region and take a series of tests. Upon completion, if they pass, they are placed with a mentor in their town who gives them their first Dragon Orb, and then begins training them to use the powers, as well as martial arts.
Once a Dragon Page turns eighteen, he or she can return to the IDL HQ and take further tests. Upon passing, they are given the status of Dragon Warrior and granted an IDL License. With this license, they can travel within their region and participate in any battles they wish. There are various Dragon Gyms who have Gym Leaders. Impressing them earns you Badges. There are eight Badges to be won in each of the regions of the IDL, which get you into the regional tournaments: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Each year, the tournaments are held in early summer.
Every August, there is the Battle Frontier. No Badges are required, anyone can fight. After several days of preliminary battles, there are 64 finalists. These finalists are taken to an island and dropped off on the shore. The island has seven towers spread out, each containing three Symbols. Basically, the goal is to get one of each of the seven Symbols and make it back to the starting point. There are 64 fighters, yet only three can win. There will be a lot of fighting. The winners earn a lot of money.
There is no fee to be mentored, but you also receive no payment for your battles at first. There are unofficial tournaments you can enter for cash, such as the Golden Nugget Rumble. You can also do freelance work for cash, helping people out with your powers. You receive no official IDL payment until you enter the Championship tournament of your region. Based on how far you make it, you will be rewarded. If the IDL corporate office deems you worthy, you can become a Gym Leader or some other IDL staff member, in which case you’d get a steady income.
After years of training and battling, a Dragon Warrior can take the Ultimate Trial. If they pass, they are recognized as a Dragon Master and gain a place in the Dragon Master Hall of Fame.
Here’s some info on the world: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokémon_world
This map is a little off, though. Kanto and Johto are different halves of one huge continent. Sinnoh is actually farther north of Kanto, and Hoenn is southwest of Johto’s southern coast. The South Sea extends out from the southern coast of Kanto and Johto, which is dotted with many islands. Most of the islands are independent, but some comprise the Orange Island Archipelago.
Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and the Orange Islands are each led by a Chancellor and his Ministers.
The story will start as our chars become Dragon Warriors. I will use the appearance of Ash Ketchum for my character. More info will be along on Saturday.
