What do you want?

Too much time on my hands today and too many thoughts in my head. Sitting at my desk drinking wine and chewing on a cigar mulling over things. Thought I might not be the only one who could use some crystalization to their life. Hence, a thread on what do you want...out of life, out of a relationship, out of a work, what you are wanting RIGHT NOW or even what you want out of a porn movie. Just put the subject (e.g. LIFE, Work, relationship, etc.) in the Tiltle. However, you can only list three (3) things. This should help everyone focus more clearly.

I'll start it off.

I want:

1. To be wanted. To know that I am desired, emotionally and phsyically. Not just for one thing (i.e. sex, influence, knowledge). To know that I am on someone's mind as often as that person is on mine. For little messages left on voicemail, texts, notes that tell me how much I mean and I'm wanted.

2. To know that my attentions are appreciated. For someone to tell me how they feel about my gestures, my adorations, the things I do and say.

3. Complete honesty and disclosure. For someone to not only be honest with me when I ask, but to disclose to me those things I should and want to know about without having to ask. To share fears, fantasies, desires, dreams, and reality with me. To know that it would hurt me more to learn later of something wasn't disclosed than to hear it now. To understand that trust is something I value more than any action which might be perceived to hurt me now.

ok, this is what i get for drinking and being whistful. Anyone else care for a glass of wine, a fine cigar (limited edition, handrolled), and to post?

First I want to say what a wonderful idea for a thread.

I want everything you mentioned already. I think most people want that.

I want better communication.

I want to be respected as a person.

Why not?

1. I want to be done with my degree. I have been working on this for the past 4 years. Yes, life got in the way, and so it was postponed. But I want this done, have my thesis in hand and say, "see? I do have the brains and the motivation".

2. I want some clarity as to what next. What are my options? What can I do? Okay, so this might tie in with everything else, but I'm fast approaching crossroads again, and I would really like to be able to figure out my options.

3. I want some rest, a break, someone who'll take over my place on the board, so that I actually breathe and concentrate on my degree and not feel like I have to be at 6 places at once.

Uh huh. Forces one to turn inward, to crystalize and prioritize. On the other hand, it's the equivalent of worry about the rocks and not the sand.

None of us do, darlin'. However, we have to deal with the rocks...this merely reminds us that the sand isn't so important and to focus on the rocks.

Too often, we focus on the sand darlin' and try to fit the rocks around the sand. We need to focus dealing with and placing the rocks. the sand will fall into place. Euphemism for "don't sweat the small stuff". Though i agree that the sand can be distracting and we can lose ourselves in procrastination in the sand.

The rocks are there, darlin'. Even if you don't identify them. They are the honkin' big things standing in the road of your life. Those things that MUST be done/confronted/overcome. Stephen Covey: Big empty bucket with two buckets beside it. One bucket has rocks. the other sand. Asks an audience member to fill the empty bucket with the rocks and sand. Those who place the sand first find that the rocks don't fit, no matter how much they try to squirm them in. Those who use the rocks first find that the sand will naturally form around and between the rocks, and all will fit.

But... if one does not identify the rocks, how can one challenge them, take them on, ride them, so to speak?

The rocks present themselves. A big meeting coming up? An exam? A presentation due? A move? The idea is to size each one up, prioritize them, and work on the priorities. Stop worrying about the sand. It will fill itself in. But, one must be willing to acknowledge the rocks, and to be willing to tackle them.

If they are that difficult to identify, darlin', then they aren't rocks. They are merely clumps of sand. Though if you are talking about goals...that is a different issue. then one must build rocks...or in my case, mountains!
