Ok trying this here. This is going to be based on Sherrilyn Kenyon's Darkhunter Book series minus the Dark Hunters. Ash, Simi and the established book characters are NPC including the Greek Gods. So let's get to the Basics. There is plenty to absorb so looking for people who are willing to jump into the deep end with me.

History : King Lycaon of Arcadia had no idea that when he wed, his precious, beloved queen wasn’t human. His wife held within her a dark secret. She was born to the cursed Apollite race and was destined to die in the heart of her youth... at age twenty-seven.

It wasn’t until her last birthday when Lycaon watched his beloved die horribly of old age that he realized the two sons she had born him would follow her to an early grave. Grief-stricken, he had sought out his priests who all told him there was nothing he could do. Fate was fate.

But Lycaon refused to heed their wisdom. He was a sorcerer and he was determined that no one would steal his sons away from him. Not even the Fates themselves. And so he set about using his magick to elongate the lives of his wife’s people. Capturing them, he magically spliced their essence with various animals who were known for their strength: Bears, panthers, leopards, hawks, lions, tigers, jackals, wolves and even dragons.

As he blended the animal with the psychically enhanced Apollites, two creatures were created. One that held a human heart. One that held the animal’s. Each one possessed traits of the other. No longer human, no longer animal, it was a bastard hybrid of the two species.

He spent years perfecting his new race, until at last he was sure he’d found the cure for his sons. Blending them with a dragon and a wolf, the strongest of the animals he had experimented with, he imbued them with more strength and magic than any of the others. In truth, he gave of his own power to them.

In the end, he received more than even he had bargained for. Not only did his sons have longer lives than his wife, they had longer lives than any known species. With their magical abilities and animal strength, they now lived ten to twelve times longer than any human.

The Fates looked down and saw what the proud king had done. Angry at his interference into their domain, the Fates decreed that he must kill his sons and all like them. Lycaon refused. It was then the Fates sought out their own form of punishment for his hubris. His children and all like them were cursed anew. “There will never be peace among your children,” Clotho, the Fate who spins the threads of life, proclaimed. “They will spend eternity hating and fighting until the day when the last of them breathes no more.”

And so it was. Whenever Lycaon blended an animal with a human, he, in fact, made two beings. One being who held an animal’s heart and one who held a human heart. Those who walked as men and who held human hearts were termed Arcadians after their Lycaon’s people. Those who held animal hearts were termed Katagaria.

The Katagaria were born as animals and lived as animals, yet once they reached puberty, when the magical powers were unlocked by their hormones, they would be able to become human– at least externally. Their animal hearts would always govern their actions. Likewise, the Arcadians were born as humans and lived as humans until their puberty brought with it their magic and their ability to shift into animal form.

Two sides of a single coin, the two species should have been at peace. Instead, the goddesses sent Discordia to plant mistrust between them. The Arcadians felt themselves superior to their animal cousins. After all, they were humans with human rationale while the Katagaria were only animals who could take human form.

The Katagaria learned quickly that the Arcadians weren’t honest about their intentions and would say one thing, then do another.

All throughout time, the two groups have preyed upon each other while each side took the moral high ground. The animals believe the Arcadians are the real threat while the Arcadians believe the Katagaria must be controlled or put down.

It is an endless war.

And as with all wars, there has never been a true victor. There have only been casualties who still suffer from the prejudice and unfounded hatred.

Species to pick from

-Wolves- Lykos
-Bears- Ursulan
-Panther- Panthiras
-Leopards- Pardalia
-Snow Leopards- Niphetos Pardalia
-Tigers- Tigarian
-Hawks/Falcon(birds of prey)- Gerakian
-Jaguar- Balios **Note** All Arcadian Jaguars are extinct.
-Dragons- Drakos **Note** Generally they stay in the past because of the electricity in the modern world
-Jackals- Tsakali
-Lion- Litarian
-Cheetah- Helikias

I will be adding stuff tomorrow so bear with me.

Characters

ok the fun part of this. Making your character(s). I will post up the list of powers available to were-hunters. The most common is being able to jump through time(to the past and the back) during the full moon, there are only a very VERY small number of those who can time jump outside of the full moon. Whether human born or animal born, chocolate and Tylenol are poison to both. The quickest and most successful way to incapacitate a were hunter is with a massive electric shock. Electricity messes with the magick that allows a were hunter to hold one form or another(hence why most of the dragons stay in the past), most often used by Arcadian Sentinels against the Katagaria they are hunting.

Sentinels
Out of the Arcadian patrias are born the Sentinels--the Guardians of man and were-kind. Only a select few are born to each patria. They are the strongest of us and they help to protect our people from those who would prey upon or betray us. It is they who pursue and execute the Slayers.

Slayers
Our soldiers and protectors are called the Slayers. Woe to any who cross their paths for we tolerate no spies, no betrayal. Disloyalty is punished by the strictest of means.

Both Sentinels by the geometric/tribal facial tattoos they bare. These appear when they reach puberty and can only be hidden by magick.

A character may be born either Arcadian or Katagaria and then switch when they hit puberty. They can also be the result of one parent from each side. Halfbreeds/Hybrids are allowed as well and will result in 3 animal forms one of each and then a combination of the two: Ligers. Humans can only reproduce with Arcadians because of the fact Arcadians are born as humans.

The majority in the series are of Greek descent, but that doesn't mean your character can't be from somewhere else. If your character is going to be from the direct line of king Lycaon's son the last name is Kattalakis

Remember if you are playing Katagaria that you are an animal first and a human second. Instinct drives what you do more than anything else. All characters' linear age should be around 90 and up, by this time they are out of the puberty stage and have some level of control on their powers. They older they are the more likely they will be able to maintain human form for long periods during the day. While in animal form they can communicate(telepathically) to others in animal form and those in human form.

All animal forms should be true to their real animal counterparts so if you play a Gerakain then you will be a normal sized bird of prey in animal form.

Sanctuary, the Omegrion, Savitar

I haven''t picked a location city wise for this game yet but there will be a Sanctuary. Sanctuaries are neutral ground, were hunter, dark hunter, daimons, appolites, etc MUST play nice. There is absolutely no fighting or bloodshed allowed to do so is to forfeit the protection of the Sanctuary and be subject to Savitar and the Omegrion's wrath.

Omegrion

Eons ago, an individual approached each of the patrias and told them that they must each elect a representative to come and make laws and judgments that would govern all the Weres the world over. At first, they balked until they realized that Savitar wasn't the type of man to take no for an answer.

Only the strongest of the strong ever make it to this level. These are our undisputed leaders and they speak on behalf of every member of their patria. The only way for them to lose their seat is by death...

The council decides when an individual clan should be disbarred or destroyed. They also oversee setting up sanctuaries and havens. Most of all, they are charged with judging individuals Slayers and calling out a blood hunt to see them dead.

Savitar

Savitar is Savitar, even the Gods fear him as he was born out of the chaos and can wipe anyone and everyone out of existence. Savitar's job is to maintain the order of things, hence why he had the Omegrion created. Meetings are held on a floating island. Otherwise Savitar can be found catching the next big wave. Like all other established book characters Savitar is very NPC.

The Red Room

This is our sanctuary and will be run and maintained by my character. The name says it all everything is in varying shades of red. Downstairs is the bar/nightclub, upstairs are bedrooms and an infirmary.

Sex Love and Mating

Because the Fates are a trio of mean bitches they also felt the need to muck in the love lives of the Arcadians and Katagaria. Giving new meaning to the phrase there is someone for everyone; everyone does have a soul mate. The only way to find them is to sleep with them. Within hours of having sex a tribal looking tattoo, rust colored will appear on the palm and wrap around to the back of the hand accompanied by a very painful burning feeling. The couple have one week to decide if they will become mates.

- Mated males are impotent with any female not their mates. Females can cat around with whoever they like but are only capable of reproducing with their mates.
- your mate may not be someone you actually love.
- If the mating is refused the male will be impotent for life
- Mated pairs can bind their souls together, when one dies so does the other. Exception to this is when the male dies first, if the female is pregnant she will live long enough to give birth.

Katagaria Jaguars are raised by their fathers. Their mothers roam in the company of other women leaving only to mate and birth their children and then returning to their group.

Interesting story. An excellent foundation with which to work. A couple of questions, however.

First, what are the rules governing transformation? Second, why do the Sentinels hunt the Slayers? And third, do characters have to be either Sentinels or Slayers, or can they be neither?

First, what are the rules governing transformation? Second, why do the Sentinels hunt the Slayers? And third, do characters have to be either Sentinels or Slayers, or can they be neither?

Ok, easy stuff

Transformations are easy and ruled by concentration alone. For either side though if its the middle of the day you will burn up more energy than normal going from animal to human or vice versa. If you make an Arcadian between 70-100 then there is the possibility of getting stuck as an animal, not permanently, but for a day or two or to end up with say a tail even in human form. If you make a character without the flair of most other you will not be able to change with your clothes on so pick a discreet place to change and have someone hold your clothes as you won't be able to manifest clothing out of thin air.

Sentinels hunt slayers either by direct order or just because they can. There is no love lost between both sides and neither will think twice about killing the other.

And no you can be a sentinel or slayer if you wish but you can also be your everyday were-hunter. If your character is going to be human then you are a special circumstance. Were hunters and darkhunters alike protect their secrets like a dragon guarding its hoard, if you know this world you are either gifted magically or something has happened to bring you into this, i.e you are mated to one.

Slayers that haven't gone rouge, are referred to as Strati and their main duty is to protect other Katagaria and hunt down Rouge Arcadians. To a Sentinel though this matters little. The omegrion is in place to prevent most of the random bloodshed but it still happens.

Were is considered an insult, amongst Katagarians, they see themselves as animals first and were is a reference to man. When you speak to another species its polite to address that were hunter by their animal. Example Van Kattalakis holds the chair for the Kat. Wolves in the Omegrion, so you would us "Wolf" like you would Doctor for a doctor or General for a general etc.

Interspecies relations, yes normally you will stick to your own kind, when it comes to mating and forming packs, but mismatched groups can happen. There has to be a clear leader though or it will just implode.

Injuires
Moderate to severe injuries will lead to the character returning to their natural form Arc. Human Kat. Animal no matter where they are. This is an uncontrollable reaction so if you are shot, head banged against the wall leading to concussion, stabbed etc in public you will revert anywhere from instantly to within 5 minutes, but most often instantly.

More On Electricity

The Natural electrical impulses of the earth aid in the change from one to another. Enough electricity coursing through the body will upset the balance resulting in the inability to hold one form consistently. Your standard taser is enough to knock a were hunter on their ass.

Fazer, which are specialized tasers wielded by Arc. pack more of punch and will send and Katagaria's powers bouncing off the walls.

The bigs guns are Metriazo collars - they release tiny ionic pulses into the body rendering all powers and shape shifting impossible. Can only be removed by magic or extreme strength.

Terms Phrases Etc

Diki - Trial by combat

Archigos - Head of the patria

Cresting - term to describe a female were at the height of her sexual peak ( both Katagaria and Arcadian females go into heat)

Exoristos - term for exiled were.

Patria - Name for the family groups of Were-hunters of the same race and animal genus

Filos - The Katagaria term for male pack member (affectionate)

Hair of Human - What you ask for at a sanctuary bar when you want something so strong that a sip would render a human unconscious

Limani - Were hunter sanctuary or safe house. No one can be refused admittance.

Neras - vrigin were females who are cresting

Regis - Leaded of a were hunter pack who in essence acts as their king (or queen) and representative at the Omegrion

Scooby - derogatory lykos katagaria term for a brainless cowardly pup

-swain - suffix for a male were hunter (dragonswain bearswain etc)

-swan - suffix for female were hunter (same as above)

Tessera - group of four were hunters sent out to hunt others of their kind - think bounty hunters only they don't have to bring you back alive or in one piece.

Whelps - young were hunters who have reached puberty and reigned in their hormones but have yet to harness all their powers

Trelosa - rabieslike madness that appears during puberty

Thirio - Need to bond and combine life forces during the consummation of a mating. Blood is exchanged during this so the canines elongate to facilitate the bonding.

More Notes

If you want your character to have lost their original mate this is only possible if the couple did not bond when they consummated the relationship. As noted earlier bonded mates die together when one dies.

And that for now is everything. any questions?

One more question: were-hunters? Is that people who hunt weres, weres who hunt other weres, or is it just used as a general term for all people who are weres?

Yep just a general term, mostly how other non were-hunters refer to them.

Interesting. You know, were-hunters does kinda make sense seeing as how each animal type that you have listed is a predator/hunter.

Another question just popped up (interesting how that works, eh?). Magic/powers. All weres possess magic/powers, right? To what degree?

Also, age. You want a minimum of 90 years old, yes? Any limit to the age other than that?

Yeah 90 so unless the character is a late bloomer they are past the whelp stage and capable of controlling their powers if any. No limit on age since were hunters can time jump.

Ok the average powers are being able to shift while clothed and manifesting clothes. Precognition( see the future), Drakos of course can be pyrokenetic. All were hunters are stronger than the average human when to comes to strength, speed etc. Lions, Bears and Dragons taking the top three spots.

The sense of smell is extra sharp, of course. Minor wounds will heal within minutes or hours. High metabolism rate so if say your character stops at like Mcd's then they will order enough for for 2-4 people.

Kimi Argenuea

Name: Kimi Argenuea

Age: 400 looks 23

Hair: Golden Strawberry blonde

Eyes: Green rimmed with gold

Height: 5'11

Weight: 130 soaking wet

Body: Curvy

Animal form: Tiger - Golden

History: Kimi was born Katagaria from an Arcadian mother, as a result she was outcast from her her family. Kimi's name means secret and that is just what she was as secret, kept hidden away from everything and everyone, including her twin brother who was born Arcadian. When she reached puberty and could control her powers Kimi fled her home and family, already a ghost to them, they didn't feel the need to mark her as Exoristos, she'd didn't run fast enough and was caught by a group of males, and was raped. Kimi is friendly but standoffish with other male Tigarians. Kimi ended up in Las Vegas and was taken in by a pair of Helikias who ran a Limani called the Red Room. Kimi took over when they were killed by a pack of Daimons**.

The Red Room is home to anyone and everyone in need of a home and food. Like all other sanctuaries all dramas stop at the door. Kimi will personally hogtie anyone and hand them over to Savitar. For anyone who gets a bit too drunk there are cages in one of the backrooms for them to dry out.

Is Las Vegas the setting for this story? And what are Daimons?

Yes vegas is the setting. couldn't myself but put it in my hometown. And yeah I realized I had left out the ever present bad guys.

Daimons are Apollites who rather than die on their 27th birthdays, find a human and drain them of their blood and their souls. Daimons are the reason people came up with vampires, but they are not vampires. the need souls to keep them going, not blood. The soul does not die, well not at once, anyways. The more powerful the soul the more likely if caught by a group of Daimons, they hunt in packs the bastards, the more likely you are going to be food for them.

Daimons are blond, and unnaturally beautiful, they only go out at night of course. When they do attack were-hunters they will often target pregnant females as the soul of a unborn child can sustain a Daimon forever, whereas a normal soul will last 6 months tops. If a group of Daimons were to attack a pregnant Katagaria wolf for instance because they give birth in litters, the souls of the female and all her young would keel the Daimons alive until they were killed, stabbed through the heart.

Okie-dokie. I'm developing my character in my head. Some of the elements are finalized, but not the entire thing. I'll try to have it up later tonight.

Wow! This is such an interesting sounding thread AngelofDeath and I love the degree of detail you have! I wish that I could join (I would love to) but I don't have the time at the moment to add another thread. Perhaps another time, but I just wanted to pop in and say that your thread sounds really promising!

Good luck!

Name: Jeff Kattalakis
Age: 200, looks about 20
Birthplace: Fourna, Greece
Hair: Light brown, swept back
Eyes: Brown with black flecks
Animal Form: Peregrine Falcon – Gerakian, Gray Wolf – Lykos, or a Gray Wolf with wings
Arcadian
Powers: Control of air currents

History: Jeff was born in the small central Greece town of Fourna sometime during the early 1800s, eventually ending up in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, where he works for a pest control company, Katta Pest Control, which is owned and operated by members of his family, both from the Gerakian side and the Lykos side. The Lykos side of the family is directly descended from the son of King Lycaon. Jeff’s primary animal form is a Gray Wolf, with the secondary being a Peregrine Falcon, the third form being his wolf form with proportionally sized wings attached (in the third form, he has to jump off of some place high in order to fly, and even then he can only glide).

The pest control company contracts with the city of Las Vegas to deal with the local pigeon population, in which the Gerakian play a significant part. The company works during the day, having the Gerakian, including Jeff, fly around designated areas, scaring off the pigeons while at the same time having lunch. By night, the Lykos pack prowls the city’s alleys and back streets, working on clearing out some of the more dangerous vermin, like the Daimon and other malcontents.

The area within one mile of the Red Room is among the safest areas in the city for were-hunters mainly because Katta Pest Control’s HQ is located just a block away from the sanctuary. KPC will guarantee safe passage to the Red Room from anywhere within one mile of the sanctuary to anyone, be they Arcadian or Katagaria, for a fee of course. While the Red Room is the true sanctuary, KPC tries its best to extend that protection beyond the walls of the Red Room. However, they cannot possibly prevent every fight within their area of influence, so instead of trying to prevent the fights, they have a standing rule that if they do come across a fight, the victor is taken to the Red Room and handed over to the Omegrion for judgment, be they Arcadian or Katagaria. The loser of the fight is also taken to the Red Room and given a chance to recover before being handed over to the Omegrion as well.

While Jeff tries to live a peaceful life, his work with KPC doesn’t allow for much. When patrolling at night, he carries a Fazer to deal with other were-hunters, and a Bowie knife that accompanies a hand-and-a-half sword for use against Daimons.

Ok people you've been looking I know there has got to be more than just one other person interested in this.

I can't write worth a damn, but am a huge Dark/Were/Dream Hunter fan. Sherrilyn Kenyon rocks! I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Uh, Angel? Could you be so kind as to explain the second paragraph of your post? Are these Daimon off limits to Jeff and his group? I had the idea that the KPC killed Daimons on sight, regardless of whether or not the Daimons were attacking anybody at the time.

Yep totally hands off. Forgot to throw it up earlier and it managed to ease out while writting. One of the books is set in Vegas, Dark hunter and former Summerian god Sin run a hotel/casino downtown and a majority of the employees are apollites and daimons. Any of the Daimons that work for sin know not to feed of anyone or anything they don't have clearance to make a meal out of. so its one of those they don't mess with anybody and everyone ignores them
