Planet of the Women!!!!

It is the far future: 1997.

It is the early years of space exploration. The days when men went forth in heroic, phallic spaceships to explore the stars, bringing to the pathetic green denizens of other worlds the benefits of manly strength, Americanism, and hirsute virility. Teaching as they went - through the twin forces of truth and heterosexuality - the courageous lessons of democracy and freedom!!

They were brave men, virtuous, square-jawed and Teutonic (in a strictly freedom-loving way), but even men of such definite sexuality and strength might meet their Waterloo among the unknown stars, for who among us can tell what lies in wait … out there???

The scenario:
Three bold astronauts – Captain Jack Richards, Lt. Alan Roberts, and Flight Commander Les Alexander – crash land on the Planet of the Women(!!!!). Initially captured as objects of curiosity, they eventually assert their bold American masculinity and teach these poor women what to is to be women, solving along the way the Mysterious Mystery!!!!

In the end there is anguished weeping by the destitute women of an entire world as the conquerors return to the stars with promises to return one day, bringing with them a thousand manly space patriots.

The characters
For men: The roles of Capt. Richards and Flight Cmdr Alexander are filled; we’ll need a Lt. Roberts.

For women: The roles of Queen and High Priestess Aditi are filled; we’ll need The Princess.

These characters will drive the narrative. There will be room for other female guest writers to play citizens of the planet. Feel free to PM your ideas.

The style
We’re riffing on the sci-fi of Hollywood in the 50s. The diction, syntax, character types, tropes, and simplistic moral lessons of that genre are the heart and soul of this adventure.

The rules
This is parody which means we’re having FUN (goddamit)! “Camp” and “tongue-in-cheek” are the name of the game.

Note, “parody,” “camp,” and “tongue-in-cheek” do not mean “poor, sloppy writing.” Spelling and grammar check are not optional, even for guests. We’re not writing literature here, but we are writing well.

The pace will be leisurely. Since FUN (goddamit) is a primary objective, this is to be a stress-free thread. Twice-weekly posting is sufficient, and if the team agrees, it could move still more slowly.

This is a narrative. I have no interest in eight pages of two-line sex entries. That’s cybering, not writing, and it’s pretty damned boring for those forced to read it. If a partnership can’t polish off a sex scene in 4-6 posts, don’t bother.

We’ll decide the rest of the rules as we go.

And as you can see, “we” is a critical component.

Now let’s have fun … goddamit, as we proudly present:

PLANET OF THE WOMEN!!!!

or shall we just go for a general glossing of appearance and history in the posts?

I'm here. We have a question at hand, MelB: "I'm not entirely sure that it would be prudent to keep up the serialized recaps for every person's post... "

This refs mag's intro post. What are your thoughts?

indeed..nothing like a spoof to lighten one's day

you too Melancholy

I feel like a new kid at school since I've only ever rped with Hermes before

Lt. Alan Roberts, reporting for duty.

Maybe I should go watch some campy sci-fi flics to get myself into the role. :D

Also, we need a giant square robot!

I have been considering this. I think the recaps are valuable and I think they ought to be included but perhaps maybe not after every post, and not something overly rigid either like every 5 recap, every 5 recap, etc. Maybe after a sequence of events or going to a new scene? I think the action should dictate their natural occurence.

Okay so recaps seem to be a hit, but frequency is not static. Last question on the topic: are we doing them, or shall we cast Narrator/Chorus?

..*shrugs* I say whoever's opening the new scene/time skip should do them

they're fairly fun

I like the cut of your jib, Leo. :)

We have several writers interested, so we'll announce the Roberts role tomorrow. Anyone interested may still apply.

Blast!

In the cold vacuum of space, we all need the hope to continue... To survive... To carry on the freedom deserved by all!

Since mag already wrote it up that way, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he'd agree with you.

Indeed, I had a right old time doing up those parts. They're fun. At least for me, that is, but I suppose most of the people interested in doign thi thread wouldn't have any trouble with them either.
