Thanks.
And for the others that commented..no changes, just reiterating what's been said time and time again.

So why is it that they post these kinds of things and they are not banned?

Well, after making a statement like that, why doesn't one either pm or email me and let me know why you want people banned? This is a pretty much anything goes forum, that's how people wanted it.

This is just my two cents....I think people that enjoy the playground venue appreciate 'manners'. I feel it's an unwritten rule that when we post our opinions on a topic and someone doesn't agree, hopefully you can 'agree to disagree' and move on so-to-speak.
For instance, on the General Board I expect to be called a "fat ugly cunt" if I post something that someone doesn't agree with (yes, this has happened. oh well ) But not here in the playground! One person can ruin a whole thread for several others...that has been very clear the last weeks/months...
Playgrounders....do we NOT want to raise the bar and have some stricter rules enforced? Even if it is just for us? There are good and decent people that are leaving because of all this shitty drama.
Again, this is just my two cents. I'd like to thing that someone agrees...just a little? LOL
And I don't doubt that some people will want to express how they feel here openly, except guess what? They are afraid of being flamed. Ironic, isn't it? For a long time, I felt this way too...or felt it wasn't worth the effort cause I was only one person.
*climbs off her soapbox
Have fun and be well,

Liz, I have to agree with you. I don't think the mods should be able to ban people just like that, but there should be some kind of 'warning system' implemented....3 strikes and you're out, for example.
For LadyG....there has been an ongoing problem with a poster in UK Directory that the two previous mods would have loved to be able to do something about, but were restricted by this 'we must all have free speech' mantra.
Free speech should not be restricted, but it should be used with responsibility and in tandem with good manners and respect for the feelings of others. Something which seems to NOT be happening all over the place at the moment. There is a HUGE difference between people having differences of opinion and people flaming and abusing others just for the sake of it. It is those in the latter category who should be brought to task more often.

I have returned to Lit to simply respond to the above two posts (I was alerted to them by a friend who saw them)
In my very short "tenure" as a mod here, I very much wanted the PG to not become a GB Lite and for people to behave "responsibly". For those that did not, it would have been nice for some sort of "ultimate" solution to be in place if they did not stop the unwanted behavior after being asked repeatedly. Unfortunately, nothing would happen. Emails to the owners went unanswered. This is not a new phenomena... many people have never heard back. Violations in the avatars would go uncorrected. In short, we had very little or prompt support from the owners. Mods cannot even really "delete" anyway, they can only remove a post or thread to a special queue where it is then ultimately reviewed by the owners and then deleted or restored. Mods have very, very few powers at Lit. As I have said before, at Lit you have way more "free speech" rights then you have in the real world... and I would imagine that is why some people come here... to behave in a fashion that would earn them a sanction in the real world.
The bottom line is that short of violations of the above rule posted by LadyG and the few other things like being an identifiable "minor", you can behave anyway you want... (see below), even if the "target" is a moderator. And of course, if you don't like it, then you can use the "ignore" feature or choose to leave as I have done... along with others apparently. So far there is no indication that this will change despite many voicing their discontent.
From the Forum Guidelines -
"Anything else goes. You may post whatever you like. Consequently, so can everyone else. The administrators here don't believe they are anyone's parents nor are they anyone's Jiminy Cricket. It's not their responsibility to make sure that everyone on the site uses free speech responsibly. It's up to individual users to be responsible for themselves. For those who are not, the programmers at Jelsoft have added an ignore function for your convenience. Just go here and add the user you don't want to deal with anymore."

Um.. no... not to most people's understanding.
That's the GB.
This forum is supposed to be moderated... but it's not really is it? All you can do is edit stuff. People can pretty much act and do much as they please.
It's almost like lip service.
Just my 2 cents' worth.
Why have a second 'modded' forum when it's not, to all intents and purposes?

Calvin, I'm glad to see your post and truly hope you don't leave.
I agree with everyone about wanting the PG to be fun, entertaining and a pleasant place to spend some time. I'm lucky that my time at Lit has never included being trolled (nor do I troll), it's been a fun place for me. I know that's not the same for everyone and that's too bad because we all deserve to be treated well and be left to enjoy their fun.
I peeked at the UK thread and saw the continued poor behavior of a person, truly an instigator and a great provoker. There are a lot of good people on the thread and it seems 99 time out of 100 the provoker is ignored. But that doesn't mean their time here is as they wish -- which is to have fun.
Free speech/Bill of Rights (USA) allows for all of us to express ourselves. The issue is how we choose to do that. The overwhelming majority here do so using their head, with regard to others and with regard to their own integrity. Sadly (and frustratingly), there are those others who do not and while their numbers are small the behave in ways that make it seem they are the majority. It stinks.
But just like in our offline life we can't ban a person, we can't push a button to ignore them and we can't throw them in jail and take their right to free speech away. It'd be great if we could gag them though!
Free speech means we all have the same rights, there are those that choose to use their's in mean and nasty ways, and there are those who use their right in a kind and mindful ways, taking other people's feelings in mind as they exercise their free speech.
I'm really glad the majority of Litsers are kind and considerate as well as smart. We look at the Free Speech Right and see we have a responsibility to use care in our words but some don't and we can't make them. Again, it stinks.
I'd rather have all my rights, which includes giving the same rights to idiots then to have my rights limited because of a minority of jerks. Just my opinion.

>> Unfortunately, it was more than the UK thread... there were others... like the IIB thread.

>> Actually Cathleen, if what we "enjoy" here at Lit is to be defined as "free speech", then in real life we do not have "free speech". Try going into any business establishment and bad mouthing someone... you'll be asked to leave or forced to leave. Try flaming a policemen... and see where it gets you. Yes, we are free to express how we feel and what we are thinking in real life but only within certain "decency" guidelines... which are sometimes clearly defined or sometimes not.
Those guidelines are not in place at Lit. It's just that simple. I have never seen any place in real life where I could apply an "anything goes" perspective.
Free speech means we all have the same rights, there are those that choose to use their's in mean and nasty ways, and there are those who use their right in a kind and mindful ways, taking other people's feelings in mind as they exercise their free speech.

>> Yes... it would be so nice if everybody would behave "responsibilily" and take others feelings into consideration. But that is not what always happens here and thus if the ignore function does not take care of the issue for people, they will just realize that this cyber world is not worth the frustration and leave... a shame for sure but the way it has been for years and pretty clearly the way it will be. Might as well just rename the PG GBII and let it roll.
I'd rather have all my rights, which includes giving the same rights to idiots then to have my rights limited because of a minority of jerks. Just my opinion.
>> From my perspective, it really never was a matter of "limiting" rights, it would have been more from asking people to be "decent". I guess however that means to some that their "free speech" is being compromised. Which is the really sad part of it... that people need to hurt others to feel good....

Thank you for coming back and making your feelings known, Calvin. We know how hard you tried, and how difficult things were. I'm pleased you feel happy with your decision to leave. I know it was the right one for you, though as you know, you're missed very much.
Good luck, LadyG, and welcome.

I understand and respect what you're saying, Calvin. I'm limited to only having an opinion since I've not experienced this from your side, as well, I can only imagine the frustration since I've not been in your shoes. It's too bad it got so bad. I'm sorry you're leaving, it's certainly a loss to Lit, as well as on a personal level. I definitely know those 'gained' hours will be put to great and creative use, as are all your hours. I wish you the best.
(I only mentioned the UK thread as an example because it clearly illustrated the egregious manner of a poster to disrupt the thread and insult fellow Lit members. I haven't figured out 'IIB' - yet.)
