The act (art?) of persuasion...

...is something that is so often glossed over in the stories on this site, which I think is a crying shame.

I've read around a few of the topics on here (BDSM, taboo, male-male) and in each of these spheres there's ample scope for one of the parties to 'persuade' the other into a particular course of action - whether it's the sister who's seducing her brother or the gay guy who can convince the straight guy into doing whatever he's trying to get him to do, etc; and it's something that I think can be incredibly erotic.

Too often, though, authors only seem to pay it lip-service at best:

"C'mon, you know you want to"
"I dunno, I'm straight/you're my sister"
"It feels good, though"
"Ok"

While that's an obvious over-simplification, it sometimes takes about that much time to cast aside the characters' aspersions and for him to get down and dirty.

Realistically, people can have massive reservations about such things, and if they were talked about in depth they could be incredibly erotic (I know I think it can be) so I'd love to see stories that dealt with the above in much more detail than most...

I agree with you, especially when it comes to the incest section which I'd say in real life would be the hardest taboo to convince people to. I'm working on an incest story, and I'm trying to write it realistically in a way that could really happen.

I too wish more stories included the persuasion part. I think it's a big part of what makes a fetish a fetish.

Nice to see someone agrees with me! :)
Not just one person.
Granted I haven't been reading these stories as often as I like, but quick decisions will ruin it for me, especially with obscene language, milder curse words, and most hated, crude nick-names for anatomy and the actions/interaction done.
A scrotum is not a meat sack, a member is a person in your family, a cock is a rooster, and we don't need to hear sexual positions/acts in detail.

Don't use the word "boobies", I hate that, and "tits" should not be used too often, "breasts" or "breast" can work just as well.

It's a problem I've been wrestling with as well: on the one hand, the majority of the stuff in here is largely wank fodder, it's a waste of time to worry too much about seduction if the reader is going to just skip ahead to the juicy parts anyway, other than as a challenge to yourself. On the other hand, the majority of the stuff in here is just exactly the stuff of seduction - fantasy - which is what gets you in the frame of mind to seduce and be seduced to begin with.

I think there are several ways to approach this, but I think the dynamic is fairly simple, and applies to all fiction regardless of genre, i.e. it's the writers job to seduce the reader, and thus the seduction itself, in erotic fiction, needs to strike and erotic chord, and fantasy - the ideal of exploring the characters fantasies seem like one way of doing this.

Just a thought, and as I say, there are number of ways one might approach this: 'a dream come true', or fantasy fullfillment which I encounter every so often, but there is also the concept of conflict to explore, i.e., the disparity between fantasy and reality: the reality may be better, worse, or merely different than the fantasy, depending on the effect you're trying to achieve.

I don't think it would take much, and Im not sure if it's desireable to place too much emphasis on it, if it merely strings things out interminabley - the majority of the readership in here is male, and seduction plays better to a female audience, but It think it's a concept worth devoting some thought to: it can really play a key role in character development which is exactly what is missing in most pornographic fiction.

That, and the absence of a Thrid act; I've been trying to find ways to make erotica fit into the three act paradigm, i.e., to find some ending that doesn't just peter out as most of the stuff in here seems to do. This works ok for prose, but it doesn't work as well in sequential graphics which works less like porn and more like short stories, i.e., there needs to some kind of resolution or twist at the end.

i agree the persuasion and convincing can get really exciting and arousing. But the problem is that a lot of readers are just there for the wham-bam-get-me-off-as-soon-as-you-can.

Just bumping this idea to see if there's anyone out there who shares the same feelings as me on this.

Absolutely agree with your opinion, in stories especially in relucantance parts, persuasion is skipped too quickly. Having sex with a innocent person, or prim, proper woman is really really hard. They just don not fall into their desires easily...

So making persuasion parts longer makes the story longer...

In my threads, there should be lots of persuasion for the story to be realistic...

Persuasion's a good thing. Would love someone to 'persuade' me into doing something I secretly wanted to do but couldn't bring myself to admit - whether that's a man-on-man thing, or perhaps a cross-dressing thing with a girl. Mmmm.

Gradual seduction seems best

While dating and learning how to French kiss with some of my first dates, it was tough to live to the next date as I knew we would go farther each date.

The best stories I have read have a repetitive sequence where the barriers drop gradually and the starting point is not as far back as it was the second and third time. It was not clear who was most interested in doing something more.

You can even end up getting married doing something like that.

Wow. What a reminder of what dating was like.

You raise a good point, though.

I wish there were more seduction and persuasion in most of the stories too. I do not really like the trite, formulaic wank stories. But when you read the feedback that some authors receive (on the story itself, or go poke about the AH or Story Feedback forums) it seems that a lot of readers follow the Queen Gertrude Model of porn. More matter, with less art.
