Manu and I would like to thank all the authors who submitted during the Winter Holidays contest, and all of the readers who read and voted.

We've tallied the reader's votes, and are happy to announce the winners:

First Place ($150 Cash Prize Winner):
A Christmas Dream by MagicaPractica

Second Place ($100 Cash Prize Winner):
A Heart Made of Branches by dr_mabeuse

Third Place ($75 Cash Prize Winner):
On Christmas Eve by Ken Nitsua

Have a wonderful holiday season, and thanks to everyone - readers and writers alike!

congratulations to all, but...

I don't understand the voting procedure, and as I can only view my own entries I have nothing else to gauge by. Two days before the close of the contest my story had 117 votes, and the day it ended was down to 86. How do you lose votes? Can readers retract their votes, and would they all do so in the last day? I'm very confused.

Periodically there are various scans which remove votes based upon a wide set of criteria such as multiple votes from the same IP Address among other things. The whole filter list used by the scans are for the most part kept unknown to avoid people trying to circumvent them.

For most contests there are numerous scans done just prior to the ending of the contest to get rid of a lot of these false votes....
