I'm not saying scrap the current system, but on most poetry Internet sites, poems are in thread format in a forum. It's a lot more interactive and people who aren't being read now have a chance to be heard. On the downside, it does open the door to criticism, and poets sometime have a hard time separating their poems from the writer. But they can be fun and we might even learn something.

WriterDom--

I am accustomed to that format. Most boards I populate operate that way. Literotica is the exception not the norm in my experience. Yes, it means greater exposure and therefore more possible scrutiny. However, that exists already when you publicly share your work.

Every system has its advantages and disadvantages. Does it matter that much in the larger scheme of things? I don't think so. If I had to do things over, I would chuck what I was used to, and follow the norm here. Would have been less cumbersome.

Good idea. Willing to participate if adopted.

Peace,

daughter

Definitely a good idea, WD. I think it would address many problems, and allow people to get actual feedback on their work.

There's something so much more intimate and immediate about thread conversations, and it encourages both positive and negative input. While I love the ego-props I get from feedback and votes, actual ideas and commentary are so much more helpful. Specifics are so much better than the general "that was great" email system.

I'm willing to put myself out there for criticism; I say go for it!

They kicked the idea around a while ago, but I think we have enough poets on the board to merit their own now. But that's me.

I have just recently joined and submitted my first poem to the site as a member after spending many months just reading. I write poetry myself and miss the forum style after the one I belonged, closed down a few months back.

If I can do anything to help, just say the word :)

I don't know what you can do. It's up the management :) I've pushed for it a few times. I enjoy pasting in a poem while the ink is still wet without the politics of trying to find enough readers to make a brief appearance on the top list. Very few people come here to read poetry. If you want more and better poetry, I feel like this is the way to go. And I'm not against scrapping the submission system. That's the reason I posted here to begin with. To have a dedicated page for my erotic poems.

If Lit can have a story discussion circle......

then Lit can have a poetry discussion circle/forum
as WriterDom suggests! I am for it 100% if it does
go through!

I'd love to participate in such a thing, WD, and think the idea of a separate poetry forum is a fine one. The anon feedback is always nice to get but often lacks in the specifics we look for as writers.

I'd support such a thing but, well, you know how Lau... ummm... Mgmt feels about new Forums here. However, i'd be a willing participant in an ongoing poetry thread, should someone begin it.

yes, give them their own space, separate from the stories. The poets seem to have almost totally taken over this bulletin board. I'm a reader of the erotic stories and the comments about them. Like most Literotica readers I rarely look at the poetry.
The poets should have their own space.
The poll should have had an option saying "Yes, a separate poetry forum."

taking over the forum

ericlove--

Oh, I wish folks who normally don't read, would occasionally give us a few seconds. :)

The take over is a recent phenomenon. Low readership is why we talk here. The forum is for public discussion.

Some of us are actively promoting works because a recommendation is a cool nod to the poet and a welcome fyi for folks looking for a good read.

Stories are the headliner. If there isn't enough coverage of something you want to see, why not post a few threads about the stories you have enjoyed? Sure the writer would appreciate it and readers seem to enjoy referrals, too.

Peace,

daughter

i agree w/ daughter here on this one

I agree with daughter on what she said above as quoted.
Yes, the forum is for everyone.......it just happens that
is an overall low readership of poetry here and many of us
are getting the word out.......

Anyone is free to post up on the board about any piece
of writing they desire (this is to you, ericlove), whether
it be a story or poem, or both :)

Great Ideal

When I first started writing I frequented a poetry forum. Like you said, the format was pretty much the same. It was a lot of fun. I especially like the challenges the people would take turns putting forth. Like a theme, or maybe a specific line to create a poem around. In a lot of ways it was like our BB here. Cliques, popularity contests, leaders, and followers. There were trolls and flamers but, there were also nice decent people who really enjoyed poetry.

The thing I didn't like about it was, as a new poem was posted the others moved down (and eventually off) the board. All the threads and replies were contained in that post. And, there was no way of telling how many times it had been viewed... if at all. Lit has the solution to all those things. As well as the opportunity for private feedback. I also think it would give poets who write more than just "erotic" poetry to display their talents.

I think it could only enhance Literotica and its members!

Yeah, what ericlove said. There is already a Story Discussion forum and Story Ideas forum. Poetry gets thrown in with Stories for feedback. Who wants to wade through a bunch of poetry threads if you're interested in story feedback?

the poetry forum

I am also VERY new to this so bare with me a moment if you will. But I would love to submit more poetry and I welcome an open forum. As a writter if you publish anything you have to expect possitive and negitive feedback. Atleast in the threads we can have a response back with no strings attached. But as a new wanna-be-writer lol, I agree with someone earlier who asked that even people not in the top slots get to enter it. After all we are the ones reading the others work. Without the small people to read you have no public. So please if it ever gets started let the little peple in too. Just think WD you could teach someone to be a better writer, Maybe even me:).
Thanks for listening and sorry if I come across like a moron. Like I said I am REALLY new to this.

Chyoo is a clinging turd. Are you on the lit payroll? You always seem to take the company line.

Ah...just what the BB needs. Yet another expert on clinging turds. As we've said before, it's constructive and insightful feedback like this that keeps Literotica growing & improving. :)

KM - your check is in the mail.

Carry on. :)

*** Newbie Alert ! ***

I know just enough to know nothing at all, but in my uninformed opinion, a poetry forum is a great idea.

The few times I have belonged to such forums (fori? fora?) they have been immensely useful and have even, on occasion, helped turn a piece of arrant nonsense into something moderately readable.

Oh, come, come, I hear you shout. They were never THAT good.
