Hi Everyone!

Guess what? We have a beta Lit feature that we are getting ready to launch and we need some help testing it. So, are you ready? :)

The feature is...(drumroll)...full text story search!

People have been asking for this one for years! We've actually had few versions of the search in development in the past, but they were never able to handle the volume of visitors that Lit gets, so we had a choice of scrapping them or blowing up the servers.

Well, this time, I think that we might just have a solution that's going to work. But, before we launch it, I'd like some of you to give it a try and give me feedback. Actually, you can post the feedback in this thread, or PM it to me if you prefer.

So, the new search is at: search.literotica.com

Try it and see what you think and then let me know your opinion!

Thank you and sorry for bothering you! :)

Wonderful! People have been wanting and needing this!

Thank you!

:rose:

(Off to play around with the feature now.)

Oh hurrah! Thanks for a wonderful advancement.

I just tried and it appears to work very well. Putting a phrase in quotes is not accepted I see.

That was working before, must have broken it when fixing something else. Thanks for the report! :)

Gave it a few tries.

Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't

I found my story Librarian by typing in ''Corrine Librarian"

Typing in "Angel Morty", the names of the main character from my story The Tease returned 12 entries, my story among them.

Typing in "Bill Saunders" the name of a character in A Head Full of Hair returned 18 stories, with mine included.

Typing in "but I've waited the length of my life" a line from my story I Can't Have Her found nothing.

Typing in "she wasn't a large woman" another line from my story I Can't Have Her found nothing.

Typing in "How long have I known her?" another line from my story I Can't Have Her returned 21,651 entries. Which isn't surprising.

Typing in "I awake from sleep, eyes starting" another line from my story I Can't Have Her returned 4,612 entries.

I hope this helps.

Seems to work like a charm. Except that the FAQ linked says quotes are allowed, but quoted phrases doesn't generate matches.

ETA: ah, already covered, i see.

Wonderful, Manu! Worked like a charm for me.

Is there any way to link the member search to the forum profile, too?

Other than the already mentioned quote issue, everything appears to work like a charm. Everything I tried, even common names and word combinations, found what I was looking for with narrowing through advanced search.

Very slick, BUT:

The current arrangement may trip up some my fellow single-digit IQ couputer users. Due to my weird color settings, I may have missed it, but I saw nothing about hitting refresh for new categories or any indication the first page isn't the primary search tool.

Wow, that's great manu, I tried it and it seemed to work well -no new bugs to report! :D

Thanks for the feedback, but remember that I am a little slow - anyone around here will tell you that. :) What does it mean when you write "hitting refresh for new categories"?

When I used "Carly dreamed." - which is a line from my story "Hush, Hush, Sweet Carly," I noticed something odd: it pulled up another one of my stories (Atlantis Revisited), and that sentence is nowhere in there.

"Dreamed" is, I'm pretty sure, but there's no character named Carly in it.

I like the idea and appreciate the effort, but it seemed a bit hit and miss when I tried it. It found one sentence from one of my stories, though I had to take quotes out of it. It didn't find another sentence from the same story or one from a different story. A sentence from yet another story returned 58 stories, mine being the 8th on the list.

Narrowing down the search by using the advanced search works good too.
No loading again, but a smooth transition.

I think the reason is probably because the quotes feature seems to be broken right now. Once that's working again, please try it and see if that makes it find the exact story you are trying to find.

If you have stories that it's not finding, please post examples and I'll try to figure out what's going wrong.

As I said, we are still in testing mode, so all comments and feedback are really appreciated. We don't want normal users to see all of the bugs - only abnormal users. ;)

Well, you're certainly in the right place for that. :D

Here's a few, Manu.

23650 returns for the following sentence fragment. My story (My New Canadian Friends) was not on the first page: They smiled warmly and asked me if I was from around here,

28083 hits for the opening sentence in my story White Trash, Ch. 1. It was not on the first page: Yeah, I fucked her.

No results found for this sentence from my Vignettes From a Thread: They'd come back from four down to win the tournament, again.

Abnormally yours,

jomar :)

I didn't have anything useful to contribute so I searched for:

Wake up sleepy head: 906

the body of a woman ten years younger: 1488

the body of a woman twenty years younger: 1222

Love muscle: 40,004

Man meat: 10,946

throbbing gristle: 60 (one of them mine  )

ersatz dildo: 22 (I knew one of them was mine that time)

Manu,

The first page I encounter has two "index cards" with collections of "Random Tags" and "Popular Story Searches." Each time I hit the refresh button on IE, a new selection of tags and story searches shows up. I haven't tried it with Firefox.

ps: Thanks to Gauche, this gizmo may become the greatest cliche searching tool in the history of Literotica. rf

Oh, thank goodness for this wonderful addition. Now if we can only link in automatic deletion of post, thread, and account for anyone typing the phrase "looking for a story I read" ... ;)

See, I had to search for the overused phrases ... "one finger, then two" turned up 85831 stories.

Fantastic - I searched 'tom' and 'rugby' for mine and it came up second in a list of 43... and tom is a pretty common name and rugby hasn't got much to do with the whole story - I think it's a brilliant tool :nana:

eta- is the poetry search up and running yet, because it didn;t seem to work...?

One of those was probably mine too

BTW, I've already used it to fine discover some smut that's finely attuned to my particular, er, eccentricities. Very useful!
