Are you ever "justified" to use a racial slur?

If called a racial slur, does that make it right to retaliate with one as well?

Any NASCAR or other racing jokes will result in detention.

Wait for the poll.

Edited to add: Retaliation in this case means "getting back at". This isn't about just joking around with someone.

Good, I beat the poll.

Yes.

In times of conflict, it is important to dehumanize to make it easier to kill. That's why I use terms like Arm'nJabber and Mookie when refering to da playahs....

Yeah, but does that make it "right"?

Well, maybe. But it still will result in detention.

fuck that.

and i'm not sure. i don't think it'd be right, but i'd consider it understandable and i wouldn't hold against somebody unless they wouldn't let it fucking go after awhile.

When did we start making judgements about right and wrong in a relative world? It's okay to me, free speech and all, and there is no other standard I can be held to other than the one I choose for myself, so, yes, it's "right." (If someone is using racial slurs, it gives me a better window into that person's character and I can then know to give them a wide berth.)

;) ;)

I love this part of Liberalism. When they try to tell me what is right or wrong...

How about in an argument?

Well, I mean, if you're in an actual argument with someone?

Nah. But I don't know if racial slurs, in that situation, are any worse than any other kind of name calling.

It's absolutely essential to the collectivist school of thought; your opposition must be Nazis, Facists and "rural redneck racists," to quote a Kansas City State Representative who was in Jefferson City to represent African-Americans...

Not justified ever. Racial slurs are unwarranted and indefensible in any instance.

As for Cap'n Oblivious' justification of using slurs. If one's enemy is worthy of death it isn't necessary to dehumanize them yourself in order to make killing them easier. They would have dehumanized themselves already through their own actions.

By stooping to namecalling and demonizing an enemy you only weaken your case against them. Just as resorting to the tactics of a demonized enemy only weakens your own side no matter how justified your actions are in attacking them.

The inhumanity of their actions should stand of their own accord without the need for stoking the fires through slurs, racial or otherwise.

"Facist", "Nazi" and "Racist" aren't racial slurs.

Some of the drivers are cute though. That's got to count for somethin'.

The funniest thing is watching a NASCAR driver with no road course experience struggle around a track like Watkins Glen, Lime Rock or Laguna Seca.
