Do you ever bump your own threads when no one posts in them?

As in, both the first and second posts in your thread belong to you?

When will you do it? And why?

Only time I qualify for this is something like a concept thread. "Post your this, post your that" and I'll put that as the first post, then the second post will be my this or that.

Nope.

Never had to. People love me. ;)

I think that's sound reasoning.

So, those who feel compelled to do it regularly probably aren't loved by the masses here?

I think that's probably a fair assessment.

I have bumped a thread for the day time crowd to see. The night time crowd is like another world.

Rarely do I do blatant bumps where I just *bump* - but I do bump with a second meaningful post from time to time. I usually give it some time though - like start a thread in the morning, and then bump it some hours later. Unless I am asking for advice or feedback on something.

Generally, if it doesn't take off then, I let it die. Often though some people just haven't seen it and do see it the second time around.

I will often bump threads started by other people for the day shift/ night shift/ etc. people to see them. Many times those "dead" threads will then take off.

If it's my own thread, it is probably a PSA kind of thing if I'm bumping it. Which reminds me... it's October and breast cancer awareness month.

If it didn't take off on the first post it just seems pathetic to bump it on the second unless there was good reason...

If I put it up and no-one bites, I don't bump it. But if it goes for pages before bed, I just might bump it the next day - same as others said - for the daytime crowd. That usually works.

I would have to look in my profile to make sure, but I don't remember ever having a thread that just tanked.

No, I usually fire the first post off and if no-one responds, let it sink. I do, however, go back and post in thread of mine that have been quiet for a long time. I tend to feel that my topics are much more interesting than the norm, and if the thread-quality level is very low around here and I'm not feeling inspired, I'm not above reviving an oldie.

I thought that self-bumping was considered gauche,'til I came here.
That,and consecutive posting.

I've done it a couple of times when I feel a thread is dying before its time.

I don't post a lot of threads, so when I do, I demand attention.

I just bumped an old thread. This thread made me do it. It could become a bad habit.

Maybe better to make up a troll alt who hates me and bumps all my old threads just to annoy me. That way, I won't seem so egotistical. Good that I'm just thinking this, and not actually posting it, though. If I posted, then it would never work.

i think i do it more than anyone.

i just hate the idea of anyone suffering and missing out simply cause they're on at the wrong times.
