hay all. my girl friend and i have experimented with some bondage and we both enjoyed it very much. however we were less than satisfied witht the rope we used.

i am planing on suprising her with a set of cuffs or somthing similar but im not sure what to get. i know we want somthing that will be secure and at the same time not irritate the wriste and ancles.

so if you would, i would love for you all to let me know what your favorite restraints are and what you think would work best for us.

just remember that i am on a budgit so nothing to $$$. i am hoping to find somthing that will work and last well for $40-$70

thanks

I have cloth covered velcro restraints that have metal clips so they can be attached to chain or a home made spreader bar with eye type screws in each end. They are good for long time use as they don't chafe (unless I want them to) and can be used in a variety of positions with a variety of connections.

We also have velcro restraints, though at times the material they are made of can cause allergies for me. Metal handcuffs can also give me an allergic reaction as I have problems with most metals...thus after using them last night I have a rash on my wrists today. The only rope which does not give me an allergic reaction is cotton rope. It is durable, soft but not too soft, and easy to throw in the washing machine and hang to dry from time to time.

These(http://www.extremerestraints.com/suede-lined-leather-cuffs_578.html) are something simular to what I have tho I only paid $30 for mine. They are very comfortable but are a bit heavy. I've had them for about 6 months and I absolutly adore them. I wear them all the time just around the house or when I go out to the clubs and stuff like that.

this (http://www.extremerestraints.com/sportsheets-neoprene-bondage-cuffs_1323.html) is the pair that I started out with and they are very nice but I prefer the buckles to velcro now. Just a personal prefferance thing. I actually paid a bit more for them because of the shop that I went to. I've had them for about 4 years now and they are still in really great shape.

Also if you have time to do a little home work then ebay often has some reputable leather workers selling nice quality equipment for very reasonable prices. I've gotten a few toys that way and I haven't been dissapointed so far. :)

Saran wrap all over is fun. Though I hear some are allergic.

Never done it, but I've heard that if you can find a comfortable rug that won't completely swallow your partner (haha no dirty mind intended there) ...that you can wrap them in that...

Of course...that only exposes the head/feet ideally...
So it's only really useful for tickling...
But that's why I liked the idea so much.

Check out this thread, too:

as it has some ideas along this line.

I'll put down a couple of ideas here that I put down in there, and reprise my PSA on binding safety from that thread.

Okay, general consensus is 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch diameter rope or line, perferably in a soft material like cotton, or nylon, for your basic ropes. I tinker with thinner stuff, but that's just me, and thinner stuff does have its potential pitfalls.

Getting creative, and thinking in terms of "pervertibles" (everyday stuff that can be converted to a bondage purpose quite easily, there's the venerable Ace Bandage, and also, I've seen old pantyhose used as an armbinder (just tuck both arms down one leg or both legs, one inside the other).

Now, the condensed PSA, including why, if you're thinking about things like handcuffs, you definitely shouldn't buy cheap.

Any bindings run a risk of compressing blood vessels, tendons, and nerve clusters, all of which are near the skin's surface at points we like to bind. Wrists, elbows, knees, armpits, ankles, knuckles, you name it, if it's a joint, it's vulnerable to damage from compression. When using rope, make sure that while snug, it's not pinching. Generally accepted wisdom says be able to run a finger under the binding, but I suppose that depends on whose fingers. My fingers are so thick, that would leave enough room for even a novice escape artist easily enough room to wriggle out of any binding I might do.

So pay attention. Are the veins popping out in the limbs? Are the limbs getting dark? That's a sign of blood vessel compression from too tight bindings. Ask if the limbs feel cold or numb. Sign of either blood vessel or nerve compression, even both. Tingling and "falling asleep" extremeties are all signs of nerve compression.

Which brings me to handcuffs. The cheap novelty versions are made of garbage metal, have a "locking mechanism" (usually this amounts to a cheesy spring-loaded ratchet) that can jam, and worst of all, have a "double lock" (which prevents further tightening of the cuffs) mechanism that's comprised of a sliding metal bar, which can slide back to the "free" position too easily and do irreperable damage to wrists, most infamously the radial nerve, near the base of the thumb.

Here's where you want to splurge and get the real deal; among other companies, Smith & Wesson make police cuffs whose features include high quality metal, infinitely better locking mechanism, and a double lock that's applied with a pen or (in some models) a stylus-like point on the other end of the key; negligible danger of those tightening unintentionally.

The pantyhose armbinder and the Ace bandage ideas I mentioned above have distinct advantages because they're springy, and have a more even compression, leading to less marking (Ace bandages either look like pillow creases or like you've been wearing an Ace bandage.), and are relatively inexpensive and otherwise inoccuous<sp?>.

i have a few suggestions. Yes, i have a web site where i sell leather items that i make, so, consider me biased if you wish.

First, at this point in your evolution with BDSM, it might be a good time to decide if you want to obtain items that will last and/or items that have the traditional leather look/feel/smell. Obviously, real leather will last, but, some toymakers use types of leather that won't last or hold up to "real" use. And, workmanship can make a difference in how well something works and how long it lasts.

As far as budget is concerned, you can get a pair of good leather buckling cuffs for $20 to $30 (you might want two pairs). You can get a good basic collar (functional, not just decorative) for $15 to $25. You can get a good hogtie for $12 to $20. Various styles of leather blindfolds range from $10 to $25. Various styles of gags range from $10 to $25. And, there are various styles of leather straps used as restraints to replace rope that range from $10 to $50. Some merchants, like myself, have "combo kits" where you can get a group of items at a discount.

Some people like and prefer leather, some want rope, some want metal. To each his/her own :)

Cotton rope

My favorite on a budget. I buy mine on the cheap from the Dollar Store or Ocean State Job lot which is on of those fall-off-the-trunk stores.

I use cotton because you can wash it over and over again. I cut it in 10, 25 ft lengths, and finish the ends by taping with green tape.

When I do not like the looks I just toss it. There are plenty of websites that show you how to tie all kinds of knots and cuffs.
