I've been wondering.

The stories I have posted here so far are technically IR simply because I make my female leads somewhat like myself, and my male interests similar to my real life SO. I never put them in the IR category because the protagonists' races really aren't a focus of the plot. Lately though, I got a few (not so nice) emails from the Nameless Bandits telling that those "unnatural" stories of mine belonged in the IR category rather than in Erotic Couplings. What are your thoughts on category choice?

First, the author does not have the final say on category choice. Stories are placed where management thinks best, but they usually follow the author's recommendation. I'm surprised, though, that the stories in question are placed in E/C. Since that is such a big category, stories are usually placed elsewhere if they can be.

Second, put your stories where you think they belong, and never mind "the Nameless Bandits". Personally, I don't put anything in the IR category unless that aspect seems relevant.

That's pretty much what I thought. I chose EC when I submitted and figured the admins would put it elsewhere if they saw fit.
As for choosing EC rather than IR, I went through the same reasoning that you did. Since that aspect was minor (to me) I didn't select IR. Anyway, thanks. I was just wondering what others thought.

Stereotypes and IR stories...

I do agree that in some IR stories there are stereotypes that are far-fetched and often times repulsive to most IR readers. I'm currently writing True Colors, which is an interracial romance focusing on two protagonists, Marcus and Tatiana, and the response their relationship receives from their families. I have a few stereotypical undertones in the story, expressed by supporting characters to add to the plot of the story. I feel as if at times, these stereotypes, which are normally ones that are overlooked, allow readers to see prejudices within themselves.

I've read some outstanding interracial stories on the site. Lola's Jealousy Has Consequences, huelust's stories, etc. They are all well-written and well thought out.

Newbie with an IR story posted as an EC

Greetings Everyone - this is my first post ever. After YEARS of lurking the boards and reading stories, I submitted my first story 'Futile Resistance' a few days ago, and I've gotten a pretty nice reception so far. My protagonists are a bi-racial woman of Martinican and Caucasian descent and a Caucasian male of Irish descent. Though I consider myself African-American, I am of Martinican descent and I have blond, blue-eyed first/second cousins spattered across the world. My SO is white (Scottish descent) and I have never in my 31 years had occasion to date/sleep with a Black man. As such, I have written from experience. I consider the race of my characters to be secondary to their overall humanity and their struggle to find love and happiness. I have personally never experienced difficulty with anyone (at least not with anyone that mattered) regarding the bi-racial nature of my relationship with my husband, and neither has he.

I'll admit that I had doubts about whether or not the editors at Lit would place my story in the IR category and can acknowledge that I did NOT want it to be. I don't feel that I placed race at the center of the plot, therefore, it doesn't belong in a category that focuses on race. Maybe I'm sensitive, but I absolutely cringe when I have the misfortune to read the "big black cock" or "animalistic black bitch" stories.

Best to all,
QQ

I agree with quint, I hate the 'white wimp wife waiting for the two foot black cock' story but, there is a need for an IR category.

To explore the passions, tensions and difficulties of mixed race relationships is probably the most relevant subject of today. Sorry guys, this is far more subtle than "he spewed his boiling, black baby juice into her quivering white womb".

The IR cat deserves more serious (and erotic) posts.

The issue that gets so little attention is that IR stories completely ignore normal black men in favor of these cartoonish stereotypes.

But then few people want to read about black men unless they're portrayed like that... which is why so few stories unlike that are written.

I think a lot of stories are written where the characters are of different races but the stories are posted to categories where they are a better fit, such as Group or Lesbian or Gay Male. Usually, there is no particular stereotype, and the interracial aspect is of little imortance.

I wrote one story during xmas time that got good responses and I hoped that I would see more along those lines, but all I see is "Big black buck got loose in Master's big house." I guess this is a request for authors who dabble in interracial to show readers something different and also maybe get a dialouge going on why people can't get past the ignorant myths. To be fair, I have read some good stories in this cat and as soon as I can, I'll gladly post the authors links.
I agree with you 100%! I'm sick of seeing the stories that depict black guys either being emotionally or physically abusive toward white women!

I am a black guy that is IN LOVE with 8 in 10 white women that I come across! I don't particularly know why but it's what I like and who I fall in love with! I LOVE the skin contrast when I'm having sex amongst other things.

I write a lot of black and white stories (lol Interracial) because that's what I'm familiar with, but NOT because I want to write about big black cock ravaging white vagina or use derogatory words like Nigger and Thug and Honkie and... I'm above such things! I HATE when authors demean certain groups of people by using language in their stories. It's not necessary and 9 in 10 times, makes for a horrible story!

Hey,
Just thought Iíd throw some interesting info into this thread. As far as stereotypes go, yeah, thatís just the uniformed living out a wet dream that the general concusses seems to get off on. Here is something some of you may not have known, though.
Saw an episode of the T.V. series called ĎStrange Sexí awhile back and they had the man with the biggest recorded dick in the world on there or at least in the U.S. from my understanding. The largest condoms made only covered half of it. It was thirteen inches, nine soft, and as thick as his wrist. Canít remember for sure, but I think the overall circumference was 6-8 inches. Letís just say this guy had big wrists, though. Now hereís the kicker, itís a white guy; kind of blows the stereotype out of the water. Surprisingly he doesnít do porn, nor advertise the fact, but he's slept with thousands of women in his search for a lasting relationship, but most are simplely curious as to what itís like.
That in itself could give a writer if IR some interesting possibilities to work with.

Yeah I know! and Here's the deal Falcon,
I'm not proud to broadcast the fact but I don't follow the stereotype! I'm not hung like a horse and 6 inches around either. I'm rather average and i RATHER HATE IT but I've never had any verbal complaints from anyone! I'm thick and what I lack in length is covered in girth! I love pushing hard into an asshole because I'm too thick and it hurts the girl until I'm fully inside her. I don't advertize but I know that there are friends of mine that are white guys that are longer than me... it is what it is, I was born with it, so I use what God gave me.

I'm not really only speaking about cock measuring when I speak about the normal interracial stories and things, some people have bigger cocks than others, some are black, some are white... but here's the deal, Instead of FANTASIZING about things, people should start just acting on their fantasies. There are PLENTY of black guys that WON'T BEAT white women, and won't womanize, etc but love seeing the contrast of a chocolate colored cock entering into a creamy pink vagina, and there are those who cringe of the thought!

TO EACH HIS OWN! if you like it, DO IT! if you don't... you obviously won't... but People NEED TO STOP Stereo Typing ALL BLACK PEOPLE for Ignorant Womanizing No Good Thug and Thug Wanna-be Niggas and Niggers, and LOOK up the word in the dictionary! Because the word does NOT describe black people!

This is an erotica site. Erotica is all about fantasy and arousal and anticipation and emotion.

Reality and technical precision? Not so much.

But if that's what you want to see, go ahead and write it up and post it. There undoubtedly is an audience for it here.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. If you know how to work what you've got, that makes all the difference. It's all pink on the inside no matter what race or nationality, and if you can make it sing, that's all that matters.

Unfortunitly, the center line plot of many IR stories is the steriotypical giant black cock brutalizing some tight, white, married pussy. It seems to be the norm, along with the whole 'white boy cuck thing,' for some reason. I think the porn industry has a lot to do with this in recent years.
i.e. All black men are thugs with 10+ inch dicks that get off on humiliating hot blonde women and 'breeding' them, while all white woman, married or not, are looking to be sluts to the first black dick that comes along. We all know this to be untrue in the real world 9 time out of ten, but LE is the place for whimsical fantasies of Erotica, or those with a certain fetish towards IR sex. This is an entire site made up of wild, kinky fantasy, so it's not that surprising that's the kind of thing that's going to dominate the catigory.

If you don't like something don't vote for it.....stereotypes are ultimately based on a kernel of truth....else they would receive no traction. I hear what people are saying....and your opinions are often valid....but writers are entitled to write on subjects and protagonists which stir them most. Keep writing and giving opinions....it is how we all get better.

My two cents: I wrote two stories about an interracial couple (female) and didn't post either in IR. Stories got mediocre scores (like most of my stuff), but I really thought I made the characters live, not cardboard. Still, the stereo fans want the formula, and there are plenty of writers who will give them what they want. Truth, as they say, is invariably the first casualty.

After all, as sr71 has said, this is an erotica site--strokers are welcome.

It's a delicate balancing act. We all have instinctive fantasies that we want to live out, but characters should still be real people. I'm working on an interracial story right now, but I'm starting with fleshed-out characters first and then filling in the fantasy second. The black guy WILL be a tall, muscular athlete, but he'll be well-educated. He'll speak street lingo with his friends and buddies, but his normal speaking voice won't be any different than "normal".

The girl in question is white and from a small town in the Bible Belt, but isn't a hick. Her parents aren't thrilled with her being serious about a black kid (if he was just a fling, they'd be more okay with it) because it's hard for them to picture their future grandkids as "mulattos".

I think the fact that there's an IR category reflects a particular brand of eroticized racism, and your Nameless Bandits are steeped in it. Being of various colors myself, I almost wish the idea of nailing someone with a different genetic background was enough to get me going. I think you're doing the right thing, since catering to people's racism isn't part of the 'hook' of your stories.

Why should the characters be real people? Seems unnecessary in erotic fiction, though not absolutely forbidden.
If your characters ARE real people, and their erotic attraction is based on violating the taboo of the social construct of race, they're racists. Nice ones, maybe, but racists. If what's sexy about the proceedings has nothing to do with race, that's something else entirely.

Why are you dredging up a six-year-old thread rather than just beginning a new one?

For some reason it was the top of my feed, and I didn't check the date. No dredging required. I see quite a few old threads get revived in various categories. Is there a rule, a limit, a convention, or an unspoken understanding on how long after the last post a thread should be interred, it's mouth packed with garlic, and never seen again?

Irritation has been shown more than once about this in last few days. That should be a clue. It's not the current state of a topic, nor the current people discussing it.

I suppose a person that had said all they wished to say, and read all they wished to read, on a subject, could always just ignore it. Or is that not allowed either?

I'm willing to bet that since this thread was initially ended that IR stories have gone seriously down hill-especially with LW- and are as racist as hell in a variety of ways.

It's always good to start off as a new forum member by irritating other forum members for no particular reason.

It's actually an 11-year-old thread. It was first started in 2006, and then dredged up in 2011.

I've never understood why people get so bent out of shape about thread necromancy. If you're not interested, don't post. If nobody's interested, the thread will sink right back into its grave soon enough. If someone else is interested, fuck off and let them have their turn discussing the topic.

Most of the time, the same people who complain about thread necromancy also complain about starting a new thread on the same old subject that's been discussed a hundred times before.

In other words, you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

It's a form of institutionalized bigotry unique to the internet, codified in forum rules across cyberspace, and therefore "normal" behavior.

Back of the bus, you n00bs! You missed the discussion the first time, so you don't get to chime in! The subject is forevermore closed by order of the council of crusty old-timers!
