Who knows how to twirl a flogger?

I've been trying my hand at this for some time now with limited success.

Does anyone have any tips, or better yet, instructions?

Start with something not quite so flexible...*sigh* No...not that..

What you are after is what a fencer would call a moulinet....
It gives you a nice figure eight motion...After practice, you can swat an ass through both curves of the figure eight...
*Grin*
Then you go look up the martial arts drill for escrima..Or singlestick...Or whatever..And it will start you with using two at the same time...

For Nemoalia

I think I really went the wrong way with my first flogger purchase, and this was after getting some good advice as well.

Nevertheless you can see that I've mastered the art of swinging them wildly.

All righty, well, apparently you and I have similar taste in flogger handles!

Is it wrong of me to admit that the third picture tripped the Jane Goodall in me?

Would think those handles while being good for fancy twirling, would cut down on accuracy and safety of directing to your target? Also think perhaps a more direct fixed one you would get more impact. Hmm, what am I saying?!! After our experimentation with the new crop yesterday, and the resulting blister, I'm not wanting anything right now.

actual twirling will be hard because they are out of balance...so it will be difficult to complete "release" moves. However look up simple figure-8s, double figure-8s and inside-outs from any nun-chuck guide and practice those. Enhance these simple moves with what i call "body style"...I think you already know what I am saying...

I see you recognize my drunken monkey style.

Yeah, the handles suck.

Are you coming at this from a nunchuk perspective or a flogger perspective?

A lazy grip

I saw the grip you are using.

Maybe this will help, maybe not?

Using your middle finger and thumb(the finger for flying the bird) hold a lazy grip around the handle of flogger.

With your dominat hand start palm down on the strike, follow thru, and then come back for another strike palm up on the back hand.

To do this with both hands just let the other hand chase the dominat hand.

This is a simple flourintine(sp)

Did I screw you up worse?

No, not at all, thanks.

Nice war face.

If you get a more conventional designed flogger with a knot at the end of the handle it would be easier. A two finger grip is about all you need and let the flogger do the work.

I guess these floggers are going to end up being a gift.

I still think that nunchuck handles are the way to go if you want a showy sort of twirling. Sure, you can't flip or crack the flogger (accuracy and sting!) unless you have fixed handles, but really, if you most wanted accuracy and impact, you could always just switch to a cat, y'know?

okay, I just got an image of a Domly Dom swinging a pair of felines Florentine style --- holding them by their little kitty tails and wailing away--- all eight legs stiffened, claws out looking for purchase.....

MrrEEOWW!

MrrEEOWW!

MrrEEOWW!

MrrEEOWW!

Should've been the 102nd thing in "101 Things to do with a Dead Cat"

And that's the state of my brain today.

Ummmm....Actually you can.... Benefits of being a geezer I guess....

I hadn't realized that he actually had flogges built on Nunchaku swivels...

While they will work best for a more sweeping movement..Catching the bum...Or whatever part is of interest 'in passant" as it were...
Use the movement where you flip the flogger over your upper arm (or shoulder), then bring it forward in a nice sharp ''SNAP" ... The objective being to contact wtih only the last inch or so of the tails....
Just like using a pair of 'chucks...

I might suggest just shortening the chains a bit ...that would still allow for neat...If somewhat odd ...twirly exhibition... But would make 'em a lot more useful.

Okay, I don't have experience on the giving end of this technique but I have had my fair share of time on the recieving end, so for what it's worth here's my observations.

The guy usually twirling the flogger tends to prefer a flogger something like this only he tends to prefer the rubber version, or it might be nylon I can't recall exactly at the moment. Anyway, from what I've noticed it's more about a fluid arm motion than the flogger actually being able to twirl. I would think that the fact that the version you have would even be a bit harder to use. Take more control and all that.

Like I said I really don't have any experience twirlling one myself, but *purr* it is a lovely experience to be on the other end of when the wheilder has mastered it. *purr*

Good luck :)
