anime is the drawing style, hentai is pornographic anime, and I've never heard of magma aside from it being molten rock.
As for what makes it anime, anime characters don't look japanese as often as not, although it's definately a japanese style.

You just reminded me of something. Remember when you wrote in the JOL about the old guy in "pantaloons" before the fire who gets brought a young girl by someone trying to suck up to him? Sort of a "take my daughter, please!" scene, but without the funny Gracie stuff? Shortly after I read that I found I had a pic of it! (guess I shouldn't be so surprised at that--I seem to have a pic of almost everything. :/). I posted it in BV, but since you don't read that thread, I'll repost it here. I want to know if this guy is wearing the aprocrophal "pantaloons." Unfortunately, the shot is taken from the wrong angle.

The generic term, I believe, is erohon.

Much of my time in Japan was spent searching for outstanding examples in the country's finer products; namely sushi and porn. hmm, well that's either interesting or information from people who think that hentai is a corruption of anime and hate it. There are quite literally anime fanatics out there.
then again, it may just be a north american simplification, although with all the different categories of hentai, it semes rather doubtful.
