What melts your heart?

I'm as soft as soft can be. I start this thread now as I just sobbed my heart out over an episode of ER. Simply a few lines of "bright eyes" sung or said will make me well up, most Disney films will have me in tears at one point or another and anything vaguely romantic has the same effect.

How soft are you? what makes your heart melt and your teardrops fall? Also do you think this comes across in what you write? Have you ever written anything that's brought you to tears every time you've read it?

I have one story that gets me like that. "A fruitful Life." has a twist to it that I didn't envisage until it wrote itself and it made me cry writing it and makes me cry reading it.

Do you think this kind of heart melting soppiness is appreiciated here at literotica or is it all about getting off?

Any and all thoughts appreiciated :D

Weeping is good.

I've cried having sex
I've cried over films, reading books,
I've cried for my wife and daughter when things haven't gone the way they wanted,
I've cried with frustration
I've cried over love and the pain of loving and losing
I've cried with laughter
and I've cried at myself

I'm pretty much a candy-coated marshmallow. Everything makes me cry...scraps of music, a sudden remembrance of a lost memory, hallmark commercials, a kind word on a bad day, the water show at the Bellagio in Vegas, a napping child...you name it.

Some of the poetry I write brings me to tears, but I think that's because they express deeper emotions that my stories. Other people's poetry and stories bring me to tears - your Christmas story did that, EL.

I think those softer emotions are appreciated here. The best stories touch the emotions as well as animal urges.

Neonelyte..Crying is good..and I've done all those kinds of crying too :)

Lady Jeanne...I always think it's the greatest compliment when someone tells me a story of mine brought out an emotion in them -thanks. Yeah I am like you too especially on the kind word on a bad day front. I can deal fine until someone is nice to me and then I'm a puddle of tears *L*

I always appreiciate softer emotions when I read them in stories here,I think lust is so much more than just chemistry and passion...

There are certain movies I can watch and I will cry every time, even though I've seen them a dozen times- Ever After and Never been Kissed are the two I can think of right now.

This doesn't make me cry, but it melts my heart- when my oldest son was younger my ex and I were having some rough times and I would cry at the littlest thing. Everytime I would cry, my son (I think it was maybe 3?) would go get me tissue and bring it to me. Isn't he going to be a good husband/lover/boyfriend some day??

BUMP.

Oddly enough a story on Lit. that had a really affectionate grandma affected me.
Very weird
Well god bless my grandmas.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Sounds silly I know, but there's some very good writing for the character interactions in those series and if you watch them all through, then you do care about the characters. The two episodes that get me every time are 'The Body' and 'I Will Remember.'

And I don't care if anyone says I'm soppy or sad, those are the saddest pieces of film I've ever seen.

I know y'all are trying to be serious......... but I can't help but think of the scene in Sleepless in Seattle where Tom Hanks and the other guy are talking about the Dirty Dozen and act like they are crying. That was a classic scene.

Animal films.

The Black Stallion. This one even gets my boyfriend. He told me at the end (tears in his eyes) "I thought this was just a dumb horse movie, but it isn't. It's a movie about love." And I thought, "Wow! He really gets it! I love this guy!"

National Velvet. Another horse movie.

Old Yeller. Don't even get me started on Old Yeller. I get teary just thinking about it, actually. Dammit.

Loved Buffy and Angel. It was terrible when Angel was cancelled. I know there were a few episodes of those shows that made me weepy.

I'm always grateful for the chance to shed tears over something that I can turn off and walk away from. An ER episode that did the trick was the one a couple of years ago where bald-headed-surgeon-guy-with-brain-tumor (Mark?) died in his sleep while listening to the headset his daughter had put on him playing "Somewhere over the rainbow." I boo-hooed for an hour over that one. It triggered something that was too hard to take out and examine closely, some memory of death and distances closed. The alienated daughter whose parting gift to her father was the song he used to sing to her when she was little, and that she had denied remembering.

The first time I was able to visit my own dad's grave by myself, eight years ago, I took a CD player and little mini-speakers with me and played Pavarotti's "Nessun Dorma," a favorite of his. I was a little embarrassed to be doing such a thing, playing music beside his grave, and maybe that's why I had forgotten doing it until I saw that episode of ER.

Nessun dorma, nessun dorma ...

No one sleeps, no one sleeps...
Even you, o Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars,
That tremble with love
**And with hope.

I cry over stories on the local news about abused dogs and abandoned infants. I didn't shed a tear over the 3,000 deaths on 9/11 until one story made it personal: a telephone emergency operator who had a cell phone call from one of the passengers on a hijacked plane that day - the fourth plane, the one the passengers took over and crashed because they knew what they would be used for otherwise. She took messages for his family. She made him promise not to hang up the phone, so she could be with him for whatever came; she listened until the phone went dead.

I wondered if I would have had the courage to do the same. I wonder if she dreams it.

I couldn't comprehend the tragedy of 3,000 senseless deaths but I could imagine that one, compounded by three thousand frightened souls and three thousand bereft families.

I was grateful to be able to cry. I don't understand what it is about tears that make us feel able to shed some of our grief as if we were ships dumping ballast, but it's a gift.

Tears are the climax of grief.

Soppiness in stories, whether here at Literotica or in an episode of ER, can do no harm and if it happens to touch someone and help them release some pent-up sadness, it's your gift to that person.

The Black Stallion is one of my favorite movies. Even Mickey Rooney is dignified in it. I don't know what kind of sedative they gave him, but he was wonderful. Old Yeller is a vicoius trick played on children who think that Walt Disney is about to make them laugh.

Ditto !!! Was I surprised when I watched Old Yeller for the first time.

I'm a total sap. I even cried at the beginning of the Super Bowl

I went to see "The Secret Garden" on Broadway on Father's Day one year - I shed tears for the whole show. Hell, I think I even cried at a road show of "Grease".

And the part in "Rocky Horror" when Frankenfurter sings "I'm Going Home"? My eyes are like leaky faucets.

A movie I haven't seen in decades, with Laurence Olivier, called "A Little Romance" - that made me cry too. More than "Harold and Maude" even.

I'm a total sap.

Me? Well, I'm very sappy myself. I cry at movies, cry at touching stories, poems, and even cry when I get sweet emails. My Mom telling me how proud she is of me, my Dad dedicating his book to me and the memory of my pet cat, they all make me go weepy. Yup, I'm a softy at heart and happily so :)

the things that choke me up are small. When my son is asleep with his hand curled around my finger. When I go in at night to make sure my daughter is tucked in and she's so sound asleep and innocent.
When my son smiles b/c he see me first thing in the morning.

When my husband writes me poetry (extremely talented man)
How my husband holds my son so tenderly and they both sleep on the couch. Just small moments but they make my life oh so livable.

Music. All sorts.
Nature.
My sons.
My friends.
Films.
Stories.
Laughter.
Strong emotions.

I'm a weep bucket.

Aww it's good to know there are so many sappy people round here :)

Sophia...Never Been Kissed is one of my faves and gets me everytime too. Patch Adams has me in floods whenever I watch it, anything to do with deep love be it incredibly happy and joyous or sad and mourning will have me blubbing.

Dr Freud -You're not the only one to be made weepy by a lit story. I read DrM's Christmas tale a couple of years ago Judith and it brought me to tears.

Earl..totally with you there, both programmes have made me cry several times, well written and as you say you get to know the characters so well anything sad breaks your heart.

Wildcard A bit of humour is always welcome in my threads :)

Carson..A sucker for Animal films here too... My hubby and I are always crying together at programmes and films. We're both as soppy as each other *L*

Shereads...your post made me cry. Yes I remember that episode of ER, i'd only just started watching it and I was hooked.

Tears are amazing, mum told me that tears are emotions that are building up inside and get to a level that you can't cope with so tears spill out to relieve the pressure. And it works like that for me.Crying relieves the pressure.

Elf...yeah my mum telling me that this past christmas was her favourite ever (spent at my house) made me teary eyed :)

Dar...my daughter makes me cry all the time..*L* She's so precious.

Mat..yup I'm a weep bucket too :)

I cry during movies, sometimes.

Remember the Titans (Gerry is in the hospital)
Forrest Gump (when he's asking if little Forrest is smart or... or... is... is he like?)
Shawshank Redemption (Red's narration at the ending)
...to name a few.

Joe - Yup I definitely remember the end of Shawshank redemption having me in tears.

Guys..does it make a difference who your watching a film/programme with as to if you'll let the tears come or not? Will you cry in front of a girlfriend or infront of guy friends or just privately on your own?

Was going to post but you beat me to it. Old Yeller was soooooo sad and doesn't Disney just drag out the shooting scene? Mind you Walt has a track record. What about Bambi? Where's my mom?

EL, sentiment rules supreme on Lit. Perhaps it's the feminine touch, but there's great demand for emotion and happy endings. For raw emotion try Lucifer Carroll's Valentine in the Dregs .

Don't know why it didn't win.
