Well, maybe the next step for "The Republic Of California" is to become an island.Taltos said:Tornados, flooding, mudslides... not to mention earthquakes!

You know why California is the Cereal State?
Because it's full of fruits, nuts and flakes!

If it were San Frasnsisco, I'd advise you to watch out for the other thing too.

The ones that survive the famine and starvation that will ensue if California disappears.California, you say? Where's that! Never heard of it!That's what the kids of the future will say!
The ones that survive the famine and starvation that will ensue if California disappears.
We are the country's largest supplier of food.
You nutcases are all about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
According to this,California is also the country's largest consumer of food. It accounts for about 13% of the country's food production ($31B/$239B), and has about 12% of the population and so about 12% of consumption. Net net, most of what California produces feed Californians, though clearly a lot of items go into and out of each state.
In the table below, the first number is aggregate for all states, then the top states are listed in in the order of the labels.
CA TX IA NE KS MN IL NC FL WI
All commodities 239,272 31,403 16,027 15,108 12,042 10,336 9,770 8,636 8,199 6,974 6,791
TX IA NE CA KS NC WI MN OK CO
Livestock and products 119,320 10,324 7,879 7,683 7,615 6,971 5,274 4,656 4,642 4,120 4,062
CA IA IL TX FL MN WA NE IN OH
Crops 119,951 23,788 7,229 6,841 5,703 5,669 5,128 4,524 4,359 3,919 3,448
According to this,
http://www.waterplan.water.ca.gov/d...-planning-futurefoodproductionconsumption.pdf
"Thus, the total value of California food production in 2001 was $20.5 billion at farm gate value."
(this one was estimated) "Total California consumption of food commodities totaled $16.8 billion in 2001."
So yeah, you'd take an 18% automatic hit in food production nationwide.
Remember that it took far less of a percentage-wise hit than that to bring down the stock market in 1929 and to cause the oil crisis in the 1970s.
I've heard of secession before but never that way!
