Ok, fun movie, great special effects, lots of cool action and fight sequences but the plot is not that of the graphic novel.

It's not like they modified it, they took the characters and spirit of the novel and created a completely different story. At first that kind of irked me (they add two characters too which is ok) but then I figure, that's what they do with comic book based movies. Batman, superman, they take the characters and spirit and put them in a new storyline.

So all and all I really enjoyed it. But if you're going expecting to see the plot brought to the screen, you won't.

I was a little disappointed to learn that it deviates from the original material... in many ways. I don't mind a director taking some liberties with the material, as long as they try to stay true to the spirit of it.

I'm reserving judgment on it. I might go see it next weekend, depending on what I hear from others.

I've managed not to read it yet, which ought to help. I find that seeing the movie first let's me enjoy it without spoiling the book/comic.

What else do you expect from Hollywood?

I am silently crying at the new trend in makeing movies out of comic/graphic novels. But hey, I guess thats more $$$ for the comic industry.

They should have stopped with the Crow, at least stopped makeing sequels to the Crow, and Batman for that matter.

Well, like I said, it's not like Spiderman or Batman or X-Men took the plots straight out of the comics. The evil deed has to be new. I don't know why, lol it just does.

Also the plot for the graphic novel of LXG was cool, but trivial. I mean, other than the pairing of a group of fictional literary characters, there was nothing original about it at all. So why would anyone put more pressure on the plot of the screenplay than they did on the plot of the novel?

Oh! And I seriously approved of one of the added characters. I thought he was a perfect choice.

i have a love/hate relationship with the work of alan moore so i avoided reading the league when it was first released as a comic. even with that said and with all the directions the comic has taken its really a satire on the Justice League and super heo comics~i dont expect to find that in the movie but im planning on seeing it becouse it looks like 90 minutes of escapist fun~certainly looks better than all ther summer movies creeping around...

as an aside sunny you should try to dig up the "Whatever Happened to the Man of Steel" trade paperback...its only five bucks and one of the best Superman stories ever told.(it was written by Alan Moore back in 1985)

Actually made me cry.

The movie based on the comic book takes some of fictions greatest charactes and groups them together. Alan Quatermain, The invisible man, Dr. Jeckyl, Dorian Gray, and such.

and together they try to save the world.

ok... it was a very short & poor synopsis.

An alan moore fan!

If you ever have the chance to pick up the very obscure novel "Super Folk" I highly sugest it no matter the price. Its basically where moore got the ideas for the "Whatever Happened to..." story and also served as his template for "Watchmen". I dont even remember the witers name~I've since given up on finding it but ive heard it can be found on ebay...

As far as the movie goes, I'm less concerned with them following the plot than the tone that Moore sets. I understand that a big Hollywood movie has to have some "bang," especially when it's a summer release.

I guess... I just enjoyed the mood that permeates the series. It's a little more subtle than X-Men or Spider-Man... so it's going to be harder to capture in a 90-minute film.

That doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. I mean, more than likely I will enjoy it. I was just rather surprised when I first heard it was going to be a movie... and a little anxious.

I'll have to keep an eye out for that. Watchmen so rocked my little comic super-hero universe. I still have my original set. And that's one I'm kinda glad didn't make it to the movies. There's just too much there to tell in movie format.

Hate to bust your bubble but Watchmen has already been optioned for a screen treatment and has been given the green light. Cross your fingers.

I've always been a Moore fan, and I've read "Watchmen" several times. Actually, I just finished re-reading it this past weekend.

That's interesting. I'd honestly never heard of "Super Folk." I'll have to check that one out.

I've heard way too much good stuff about Watchmen, but every time I try to go to a store and get it, they're out of stock. Bastards.

And LXG, that was odd. I like the idea behind it, and it was pretty to look at, but it just left me somewhat cold.

did you know that Watchmen was originally intended to use old Charlton Comics characters but a the last minute DC decided to incorporate them into thier post crisis universe and moore had to start off from scratch...its very easy to figure out whos who (the Comedian was Peacemaker,Dr.Manhattan was Captain Atom,the Silk Spectre was Nightshade and so on).

Damn, ya made me look it up... I have the two original issues that
the story appeared in. It was right before the re-launch back in 1986. It was a very cool story.

as soon as i heard about it a year ago i started researching the movie and the comics it was based off of, and... it sounded like the characters don't fit right.

from the sounds of it the enemy in the movie and in the first book aren't the say guy....... that sucks. I would have liked to see him/her in a movie
