OOC: "Underneath, Nebraska: 2048"

The Situation:

• The year is 2048.
• The planet has suffered under natural and manmade disasters.
• Nations have fallen; few exist as we once knew them.
• 12 former metropolises are now no more than radioactive wastelands.
• The human population of Earth is <1 billion and still falling.

The Underneath:

• In 2021, Howard Lender -- who would make a fortune cheating and swindling during the COVID-19 crisis -- began secretly building what he called Underneath.
• The 9 level bunker was hidden in the middle of a vast Nebraska prairie.
• In 2023, Lender and 20 others quietly slipped away to Underneath.
• They and their offspring would live there in secret for a quarter of a century.
• In early 2048, an aged and weak Howard Lender walked into a North Platte hospital, dying.
• A volunteer nurse, Alice Pierce, cared for Lender 24/7 until he died three weeks later.
• Before his death, Lender -- seeking forgiveness for a life of wrong doing -- gave Alice the location of Underneath, telling her before dying, "I did this world wrong, and you have done me so right. Let my dying act be to do one good thing for you."
• Alice Pierce -- knowing that this newest pandemic would be the end of mankind -- investigated Underneath. She found it abandoned.
• She moved herself and 24 others -- friends, family, and their significant others and children -- to Underneath in February 2048.
• Our story began 8 August.

• This is just a fun, mostly free form role play centered on a post apocalyptic community.

• Individual writers will create the background of their characters within the confines of that story background.

• The he and about 30 people -- friends, family, and their respective significant others and children -- began heading for the bunker located north of North Platte, Nebraska. With the exception of Lender himself, as explained below, none of the others were ever seen again.

2030s:

• The COVID-33 pandemic turned out to be far worse than the -19 and -24 variants. There would be no cure for this virus; billions would die from it.
• The world was in a freefall, and governments and militaries around the world began taking now drastically limited natural resources and manmade products by force.
• Then the nukes went off. It really isn't relevant to our story to know who hit who first or why they did it. It's only important to know that atomic detonations killed 2 billion people, directly or indirectly, in Washington DC, New York, London, Moscow, Pyongyang, Tokyo, and 6 other major cities in Europe and the Far East.

2045

• January: Alice meets Riley after the latter is in a car crash. (See also Post #5, main thread.)
• June: Alice meets Bryan Breik at her hospital while he has prosthetic adjusted. They become lovers for several months.

2046: Bryan Breik meets Melinda "Cookie" Grimes. They become lovers and still are as this writing, 10 Aug 2048.

2047:

• May: COVID-47 is identified as the latest pathogen to be rapidly spreading across the world. The most virulent of the Corona Viruses to date and the first one for which no vaccine will be produced will kill more than 2 billion people by the beginning of our role play on 8 August 2048.
• June: Rumors, fake news, international threats, and attempts by various nations to conquer others leads to a small exchange of nuclear weapons. Many cities along the US's eastern seaboard are destroyed, as are cities in Europe and China. Cool heads prevail, though, and the missile fire ceases.
• Late Summer: Wes McCann arrives at the Blackblood farm in Iowa. He receives room and board in exchange for labor; he begins a fiery romance with the widowed daughter of the farm's owners, Vanessa Blackblood.

2048

• January: Wes McCann departs Iowa in the hopes of finding his family safe and secure in North Platte, Nebraska.
• February:
  • 18th -- Alice and 24 others leave for Underneath. (See Post #1 -- main thread)
  • 27th -- An accident in the Generator Room kills 1 person. (Person TBD)
• May: Hunter Lee's mother commits suicide.
• June:
  • 12th: Vanessa Blackblood leave her family home in Iowa, hoping to catch up with Wes McCann in North Platte. Traveling with her is her 5 year old son Henry McCann.
  • 26th: After a treacherous trek, Vanessa Blackblood reaches North Platte, proceeding directly to the business of Shane Flanagan, a lifelong friend of Wes McCann. Vanessa is horrified to learn that Wes has not yet reached his home town and, incorrectly, arrives at the conclusion that he has either perished along the way or chosen an unknown destination. Either way, she is certain she is on her own.

August 2048:

Alice Pierce

Part in the story:

• Leader of Underneath.
• "Doctor"; she was a Surgical Nurse prior to Underneath.

• 52 years old.

• Brunette hair has gone gray; she does not color it.

• Confident, strong-willed; intelligent, logical.
• Fun loving and joyful, but at the same time serious thinking.

Current situation in Underneath:

• As leader of Underneath, she occupies the former, private quarters of Howard Lender on Level 1, behind Monitoring.
• She shares them with Mimi Rollins and Karen:
  • Mimi Rollins is Alice's on again, off again lover. They have known each other since before Underneath. As Alice's first (and thus far only) female lover, the joke is that Mimi turned Alice into a bi-sexual. (See Mimi's profile for more.)
  • Karen is Alice's 6 year old adopted daughter. Karen's mother wanted her daughter saved, but she herself couldn't come to Underneath at the time, so Alice brought her.
• Alice was twice married:
  • She had an amicable divorce from her first husband after they'd drifted apart. They continued to love one another, even hooking up two or three times most years for old times sake, even after she'd married a second time. She invited him to Underneath, but he'd declined. (He knows how to contact her if he decides to follow her.)
  • Her second husband was more of a necessity. He had money and security in a world that was progressively going more mad with each passing day. He died of COVID-44 in 2045.
  • She had no children by either man.
• 2 of the Underneath residents are blood-relations to her, but these connections haven't yet been made.

• She is has 3 places in which to sleep: an assigned bunk in Women's Berthing, a small bed in Alice Pierce's quarters, and Alice's own bed when the two of them are once again lovers.

• She grew up on the California coast, an actual surfer chick.
• She went to Kansas, then Nebraska for University.
• She met Alice in an underground club that was popular with the college crowd and the staff of the one-block-over hospital staff.
• Alice hadn't been gay or even curious at the time, but Mimi fixed that with a long weekend of companionship and love making.
• They dated (or at least had sex) off and on for a few years, taking a break after Alice's husband got sick with COVID-44, Variation B.
• Mimi didn't see Alice for almost two years.
• Then Alice showed up at her apartment door and invited her to Underneath, to which Mimi heartedly said yes.
• She doesn't see Alice as much as she'd like, so she often is unhappy. But her job as Teacher satisfies her.
• She could be tempted into sex with another woman, though, it would take quite the woman to make Mimi cast off Alice.

• She lives in Women's Berthing. She is shy and there is lots of space, so she created a bit of a blanket fort using 2 sets of bunkbeds. (No one minds that she's taking up 4 racks.)

• First mentioned in the 1x1 thread, "Polly and Wes.
• Her family (Willa, her brother Wes, and their parents) grew up in North Platte, Nebraska.

• Born 22 Apr 2010. Early childhood and youth yet to come.
• 2028: Joined the US Marines at a time when the Corps was involved in both oversea conflicts and riot control on US soil.
• 2034: Began training for and became a Medic.
• 2040: Deserted the Marines after his unit became little more than a Kill Squad for powerful Americans attempting to snatch up control. He was tracked, attacked, and injured, losing his leg but escaping with the help of sympathetic, fellow grunts and civilians.
• 2045:
  • After 5 years of hopping around, always just one step ahead of a hit squad, he arrived in North Platte.
  • He met Alice at her hospital while he was having his prosthetic adjusted
  • She had just lost her husband to COVID-44 and needed comfort. They became intense lovers for several months before she called it off to focus on her work.
• 2046: He met and became on again, off again lovers with Melinda "Cookie" Grimes.
• 2048: Still good friends with Alice, he accepted an invitation to come to Underneath as Head of Security and Nurse.

Will this be a problem, seeing how Peter already has a pretty serious fuck buddy in Riley Jacobs. And what will happen with Barbara, who doesn't think she's attractive enough to stimulate Peter, goes to Riley for help detailing her body? Oh, I'm sorry, did I forget to mention that Riley likes pretty girls, too?

• Her breasts have been described as being nearly gravity defying C-cups with their permanently hardened nipples pointing out as if to say You! Yes, you! We're here for you! to whomever is fortunate enough to see them.

Personality:

• Confident, strong-willed; intelligent.
• Fun loving and joyful, but at the same time serious about serious issues.
• She has been a bit of a slut all her life, fully enjoying the pleasures of sex. She's been with women, both before and during Underneath, but she doesn't consider herself bisexual, just open to options.
  • She keeps her sexual encounters to herself and stresses discretion to those fortunate enough to spend intimate time with her.
  • She had sex with many of the adult members of Underneath. (I have posted this more definitively and will try to find those posts.
  • She had a threesome with the Bobblehead Twins. Afterward, when they talked to their buddies about it, she beat the shit out of them. They withdrew their false claim, though, most people probably think that they'd been telling the truth based on what they know of Kimmie.

  • Security: she is a Lieutenant and reports to Peter; she is trained and capable of using her weapons, a compound bow, an AR-15 assault rifle, and a Winchester Model 70 .30-06 hunting/sniper rifle.

  • General Labor/Custodial: every member of Underneath save for Alice and Peter must put in a minimum of 12 hours a week of chores.

• Newly arrived at Underneath on 8 August 2048.

• Wavy brunette hair to her shoulders that is lightened by chemical and sun.
• Hazel-green eyes; ring in her right nostril.
• She has scars and homemade tattoos that will be explained soon enough.

Personality:

• Quiet, introverted, timid; she was badly abused (sexually, emotionally, physically) for years.
• Very protective of herself following that abuse and the feeling that she had no one to care for her but herself.
• She is neither heterosexual nor homosexual as she has never had a sexual encounter that was welcomed enough for her to enjoy.

Current situation in Underneath:

• She only just arrived on 8 August 2048, the opening day of the RP.
• She and her sister Kimmie have been given a Family Room on Level 4.

History:

• See her introduction if you wish, here.
• 1 April 2028: born in North Platte, Nebraska. (Her sister teased her for years that she was the family's April Fools joke.)
• 2042: At age 14, her father began to sexually abuse her, first only caressing her as no father should touch his daughter, then later engaging in oral sex, both ways, and finally in intercourse. Her sister, Kimmie, did not and, thus far, does not know this (but this could change now that they are once again together. Her mother, who was week with cancer and of little use to the family, learned of the abuse but did nothing to stop it.
• 2044: At age 16 and seeking the love and comfort she wasn't getting at home, Polly ran off with a 34 year old man, Carl. Initially, the relationship seemed one of love, but ultimately Carl eventually treated her as little more than a sex servant, even offering her to other men in trade for things he needed.
• 2046:
  • At age 18, Polly escaped Carl by pleading for help from militiamen at a check point through which they were passing. Carl was shot dead, and Polly thought she was saved at last. Only, she ended up in the militia's brothel for the next two months, paying off her debt of her rescue.
  • She came to be a favorite of the militia's Commanding Officer and began spending nights in his bed.
  • After she'd convinced him of her loyalty to him, he became lax around her, particularly during sex.
  • One night after she'd orchestrated an escape plan, Polly put an ink pen into his neck while he was still enjoying the euphoria of orgasm. She fled out the window and into the night.
• 2047:
  • At age 19, after months of traveling on her own, she stumbled into a small community of extremist religious nuts who viewed women as little more than servants to their male masters.
  • She was involuntarily wed to one of the community's Elders, a man 66 years old for whom she had to perform hand and blow jobs whenever he demanded them.
  • The Elder 's two adult age sons fucked her when they wanted, too, and Polly was forced her to claim the virginity of the Elder's 14 year old son.
  • After nine months, Polly convinced 5 women to escape with her.
  • They snuck out at night and floated down the nearby river on a raft she'd been secretly building during bath sessions, which where the only times one or more men weren't watching them.
  • She didn't stay with the women for long: 1 was killed, 1 fled on her own, 1 returned to her master, 1 was recaptured, and 1 was captured by new oppressors.
• 2048:
  • Now 20 years old, Polly returned to North Platte, only to find that her parents were dead or missing, no one knew. Her sister, Kimmie, had left for Underneath but had left specific instructions on how to join her in their secret hiding spot in the nearby woods.

  • Had a baby boy, Timothy.
  • She carried Timothy full term but had a C-section per the advice of her medical professional friend, Alice Pierce.
• 11 Sep 2043, 15 birthday: Married her son's father, Phillip James.
• 2045:
  • As a surrogate, Haley bore a child for a wealthy family, the Templetons.
  • Their compensation was a small farm on rich river bottom.
  • By year's end, James was sickened by toxic ground water.
  • Phillip learned that the Templetons had known of the toxic water.
  • During an argument, Phillip killed Templeton.
  • Phillip fled for almost 3 years.
  • Haley stayed with her family.
• 18 Feb 2048: Phillip returned to accompany his family to Underneath.

  • Child Care, which she is pretty much in charge of.
  • Kitchen Assistant, under Melinda "Cookie" Grimes.
  • And Bar Back in the Saloon, under the direction of Peter Higgins.
• Married but having regular sex with Kimmie Simms since March 2048.
• That secret affair became a ménage à trois with Kimmie and Wes McCann as of late August 2048.

Jake Harris

Description

• 22 years old
• 5’11”, 195lbs, muscular
• Black hair with gray/blue eyes and a constant 5 o’clock shadow
• Tattoo: the date he and Emmie met on his left shoulder blade

Personality

• Quiet, intense and focused
• Tends to have a short temper
• Comes off as gruff and aggressive, but is extremely tender and loving with Emmie

Currently

• Living with his girlfriend Emmaline Monroe in a family apartment. The two have been together since high school and have plans to eventually marry.

• Used to work with Riley Jacobs at a garage in North Platte right after high school. After getting another job, he didn’t see Riley again until Underneath.

• Knows that Emmie and her best friend, Clara, are a package deal. While he hasn’t always enjoyed sharing his girlfriend’s time and attention, Jake has come to view Clara as part of their little family.

• Had a pregnancy scare in high school, after which her parents kicked her out. She and Jake have been living together ever since.
• Has been best friends with Clara King since they were toddlers.
• Recently their friendship has developed into something more, which has Emmie extremely confused.
