OOC -- "The Man Who Fell From The Sky"

Pre-Roleplay Timeline

2039 -- World War III:
  • It began with a dirty bomb exploding in New Delhi.
  • It ended with a relatively small exchange of ~100 nukes from a dozen nations.
  • Limited as it was, the devastation was still catastrophic:
    • 1 billion dead from the nuclear blasts.
    • 1 billion more dead within 24 hours from fires, tsunami's, and other immediate aftereffects.
    • 2 billion more dead within the week from burns, severe radiation exposure, and other injuries.
    • 3 billion more dead within six months from exposure, starvation, disease, continuing conflict, and -- of course -- radiation.
    • And finally 2 billion more dead over the next 50 years from a multitude of sometimes combined causes.
    • By the time our tale begins in 2241, worldwide Human population was less than 50 million.

Mission to Io:
  • The spacecraft, Eriksson, had been in Earth orbit. It had been awaiting departure for Jupiter's moon, Io, where unmanned, robotic missions were already building facilities for human habitation.
  • In those first few hours of the war, Mission Control put the Eriksson into a temporary orbiting holding pattern. The fear was that the nuclear debris filling the atmosphere could fatally damage the reentry pods; and that even if the pod(s) reached the surface, the crew would die of radiation exposure before they were retrieved and delivered to a protected location.
  • The Eriksson's temporary holding pattern lasted a bit longer than expected after Houston (and, thus, Mission Control) was struck by a second wave nuke.
  • The ship remained in space for 202 years.

Roleplay Timeline

2241:
  • The return of Colin “Mack” McDougle to Earth:
    • The AI aboard the Eriksson had been hurriedly reprogrammed to return its entire crew when the ship could no longer keep them all alive with its dwindling resources.
    • The AI misinterpreted the instructions, though. Instead of returning all of the crew, it combined the ship's Chain of Command records with it Mission Priority records to create a preservation list of the most vital members to the long-abandoned mission to Io.
    • When it became necessary to do so, the AI began diverting resources to the people at the top of the list. Those at the bottom peacefully and painlessly died in their cryostasis beds.
    • When the AI calculated a life expectancy on Earth better than that aboard the ship, it disengaged the reentry pods and sent them to the surface.
    • We don't know if more than one pod reached the surface; we don't know if more than one crew member reached the surface; we only know that Colin “Mack” McDougle reached Earth.
    • Although he believed he was dropped onto Nellis Air Force Base, northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada, Colin actually landed 110 miles to the east, within spitting distance of the borders of Nevada, Utah, and Arizona.
  • Kara discovers Colin:
    • Kara saw Colin's pod land just 15 miles away and hurried to it.
    • She helped Colin out and subsequently took him hostage.
    • She knew that Colin would be worth trade: he was the man who fell from space, after all. He had to be worth something.
    • Kara's intention was to sell him to a woman named Mother, who had previously enslaved Kara as a sex slave.

Kara

Place in story:
  • Wanderer of the Wasteland.
  • Colin's captor.
  • Mother's former slave (sex and otherwise).

Description:
  • Full Image, portrait.
  • 5 ft 6 in, 101 lbs (18 lbs underweight)
  • 34C-26-36; currently a bit gaunt, but when well fed she has a wonderful, hourglass figure.
  • Deep brown eyes, dark brunette hair.

History prior to the start of the roleplay:
  • Little has been said about her childhood:
    • She was a relatively happy child.
    • She was mildly deprived but not on the constant verge of starvation.
    • She grew up with a mother, but nothing has yet been said about her father.
  • At 14, she was betrayed and enslaved:
    • A childhood friend turned Kara over to Brutal scouts.
    • She was hooded and taken away to a distant location.
    • She was given to Mother as a slave.
    • As time passed, her service to Mother advanced: general house servant, chambermaid, sexual servant (to Mother), then -- when disobedient -- sexual servant to men Mother wished to thank for services or valuable goods.
  • At 18, she escaped:
    • She fled west into what is called the Wasteland.
    • The Wasteland is the area surrounding the meeting point of Nevada, Utah, and Arizona.

      • Go to the Menu link and turn Labels "off".
      • Zoom out slowly. Forbidding, huh?
      • Switch from Satellite to Map view to see the state lines if you want.
    • Kara found 3 free communities outside Mother's control. She was offered residence at all three but politely refused. She has a problem trusting others now.
  • At age 20 she found Colin (at the exact center spot of the above map).
