Democrats sweep statewide offices in Virginia

I hope this prompts the losing side in Virginia to climb out of their bubbles, and try to truly understand where the other side is coming from. They brought this result on themselves with their sneering and disdain. :(

Here's a nice one. In Virginia, a transgender woman unseated the incumbent of two decades who wrote and introduced their trans bathroom bill.

I'm not one for rubbing it in, but in his case, I'll make an exception. He needs to have that rubbed in goooood.

Maybe the BroPatrol will do a little less crowing about 2018. Or not.

Cool Beans

Republicans lose 16 seats in Virginia state house, now tied 50-50 with 3 republican "wins" facing recounts.

Big overall win for Democrats last night.

There's also this:

New Jersey politician who joked about women's march defeated . . . by a woman

MAYS LANDING, N.J. — A New Jersey politician who shared a meme on Facebook during January's Women's March in Washington asking whether the protest would be "over in time for them to cook dinner" is eating his words.

A woman who was angered by Republican John Carman's remarks defeated him Tuesday as he tried to win a second term as an Atlantic County freeholder.

Democrat Ashley Bennett is a first-time candidate. The 32-year-old Egg Harbor Township resident works as a psychiatric emergency screener at a hospital.

If this is not a case of poetic justice, nothing is.

Perfect! She will know how to deal with crazy!

Danica Roem was very gracious, in defeating 13-term Del. Bob Marshall, when interviewed after her win, she said her opponent was now a constitute and she hopes to include all voices in the process. ( I'm paraphrasing) very classy.

Congrats to all the Lit Progressives, Your guys finally won something.
That part isn't even necessarily true. The Progressive wing is a minority of the nationwide party. The majority of the party is center left; their positions' are more in keeping with where Bill Clinton/Obama governed than with progressive positions. Additionally flipping seats that usually go to the other party tends to be done by more centrist candidates if it's not driven by changes in the electorate. Trying to hold those seats more than one term creates pressure to govern towards the center.

There's a real chance that this swing weakened progressive causes within Virginia's Democratic Party. The devil is in the details of who actually got elected in each individual position that got flipped.

There is still the core Trump demographic, who choose to live in a reality-free bubble in flyover Murica. That will never be more than 30% of the electorate, though.

What should cause Trump heartburn is that suburban "independent" soccer moms, who voted in large numbers for Trump last year, appear to have categorically abandoned him. THAT is what drove the Democratic tsunami last night.

In any event, it will be interesting to see how this plays out in 2018.

How is it home territory? The state of Virgina leans Republican, and traditionly votes for the party in the White house. (All those beltway workers looking out for their goverment jobs.)
But what ever, a win is a win!.

The gerrymandered districts in Virginia are set up to be Republican. The state-wide positions have gone pretty much blue. Urban vs. gerrymanders (otherwise known as Republicans).

Also, for all the posters who whined about the Women's March, "What good does it do?" "What Are They Protesting?" "WHAT'S THE POINT???" (Botany Boy)

------>

One year later, women and minorities who never thought of running for office sweep a bunch of troglodyte male Rs out of office.
