I see someone commented on my earlier droids post. I've been thinking more about droids and sex in the Star Wars universe. Little Anikin, a slave on a poor backwater planet, tinkers with C3P0 as a hobby. This indicates to me that droids are plentiful. Presumably they are quite common on richer planets, with everyone having one. What about the sexual consequences of having a droid in your life? For this post I'll use the names Kelly and her droid KEL3, Robert and ROB4
So, let's assume that droids are common and useful…like a cell phone is today. We know most people are glued to their phones, droids could be similar. You would probably acquire a droid as an adolescent, much like cell phones today. The droid would grow with you, an ever present age-appropriate friend, knowing your intimate details better than your parents. The parents, however, would get to choose how the droid behaves. In this way, parental boundaries can be enforced. No drinking, no drugs, don't get into cars with strangers, etc. The parents would also have to make choices about how much their child could experiment sexually, and most parents don't really want to think about their kid doing that. So they'll set the default to be fairly strict. Given the constant, gentle coercion of the droid, the kid will be guided in a very safe but boring upbringing.
KEL3: "Kelly, you know you can't drink." "Kelly, get that boys hand off your thigh!" "Kelly, that boy is not good. Stop smiling at him." "No, Kelly, you have to study, you can't go out." "Kelly, that shows too much skin."
You get the idea. Always there, always 'helping'. Trusted. The kid listens and believes. The kid becomes a perfectly child, innocent and repressed. Then, the kid turns 18.
Suddenly the parent's rules are discarded, since Kelly is now an independent adult. What happens? Kelly still trusts KEL3, but now the 'angel' KEL3 is not the same. KEL3 may well understand that humans enjoy sex and should have relationships. Unfortunately for poor Kelly, (But fortunately for erotic story writers?), she is ill equipped to negotiate the new social environment she finds herself in. In fact, almost all her peers, male and female, are in the same boat. All being gently pushed into sexual experimentation by their well meaning droid buddies.
So, story idea:
KEL3, oblivious to the nuance of human sexuality, thinks 'Research shows, by 19, the average human female has had 3 sexual partners. Well, my Kelly is above average, so she should have at least four. Goodness, we better get going! Kelly, get up, let's go to the mall!'
At the mall, KEL3 is silently negotiating with the droid buddies of guys, looking for the right match, finally making a deal with ROB4 to have Kelly and Robert to get together for some heavy petting in the movie theater Neither Kelly (nor Robert?) know what they've been signed up for...
