Ogg has declined to start the usual contest thread, so I'm merely repeating the usual formula here. In theory, this should work exactly as well, although I suppose there is room for me to somehow roll a 1 on this instead. We shall see...

***

We're right in the middle of the Valentine's Day contest but there is only a short time between the end of that and the start of the April Fool's Day contest. The dates for the 2017 contests haven't been set yet but a contest start in the first week of March is usual.

April Fool's (April 01)
themes: Stories (humorous or otherwise) of surprise meetings, humor, tricks, trick endings, and other themes of deception, chance, and/or misunderstandings (happy or otherwise)
starts: March 01
closes: March 20
winners announced: March 27

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the April Fool's Day Contest.

There is an advantage to entering stories in one of Literotica's themed contests, apart from the possibility of winning, and that is that your story gets far more exposure and attention than it would normally do.

I've got two stories set to go for this. It was a very productive December!

Okay, I'm going to get something in for this but I have no idea what and I haven't started.

Just sent one off for editing. Hope to finish one more, but I'm a slow writer.

Bump. The Valentine's Day Contest winners are due soon.

Just over two weeks to the start of this one.

March 1st - so close. Going to have to write like crazy now. Thrashing away at the start and finish and rewrote both and then went back to the old ending and can't make up my mind. Have to think on it tonite.

Today wraps up the Valentine's Day contest, but then we're diving right smack dab into April Fools.

Everybody writes at a different pace, but two weeks seems juuuust long enough to get a story rolling even if you're starting from nothing now.

Nothing is about all I've got. Never have cared for this contest. Just not my cuppa tea but I'll be around to cheer others on. :)

I think this will be only the second running of an April Fools contest.

I think third, but I admit I'm not sure? In any case, this is the first time I've come up with a story I'm halfway interested in that really fits the theme. It's better than the old Earth Day contest but still seems tricky, at least for me.

Third. Scroll back in Welcome Authors Please Read sticky to see the historic contest lists.

I have something to toss in for this. Brother/sister incest nothing too serious. It was a lot of fun to write and writing hasn't always been fun these days.

I got the idea from this thirty second funny commercial from overseas I saw on a porn site.

It's juuuuust about one week before it's time to start submitting stories.

Well, this is a first. This April Fool's contest thread isn't getting much action. I wonder if the low number of posts will foretell the low number of stories.

Perhaps the Earth Day contest wasn't a bad idea after all. Imagine all the fun we could have had about the sudden polluted water, dirty air, coal mines allowed to deposit their poisons in streams and rivers, and the oil pipeline. Gees, if fracking and offshore drilling wasn't bad enough (lol), Gulf fish still taste like oil.

"Free shrimp! Get your free shrimp here," said a Gulf fisherman.

"No thanks. It tastes like oil," said a customer looking to buy fish from Vietnam or China, anywhere but from the Gulf coast of Texas.

God help us. We're all doomed. I feel bad for our grandchildren as they'll never know any better and what it's like to live in a country without dirty water and dirty air. America will soon be like England 200 years ago and the way that China is now (lol).

"Here, drink this water. It's right from the Flint River, the cleanest water we have in 2050."

Boy, talk about an April Fool's joke. Now there's a story to write.

"You thought you were going to have clean air and clean water? Ha! Money is more important than the air you breathe and the water you drink. I have my own air and water source in my multi-million dollar mansion and multi-million dollar apartment. For the rest of you, die and eat shit," tweeted an anonymous someone.

Fortunately, I managed to write an April Fool's story. It's a loving story. It's a family story. It's a story about a man who has sex with his mother, his sister, his aunt, his cousin, his girlfriend's mother, his girlfriend's sister, and his girlfriend's best friend. Ah, I love writing family stories.

Actually, I love April Fool's Day better than Valentine's Day. Even though I did post an 86,200 word, 24 Literotica page story for Valentine's Day, this April Fool's story is a short story, barely 30,000 words and 9 Literotica pages. I must be getting old (cough, gag, wheeze). Suddenly, I'm too tired to write.

"Nah, just kidding. April Fool. I've been writing more than ever."

Know what the problem with April Fools is? The point is to be clever and trick or misdirect the readers or give them a nice twist surprise ending.

The readers don't like that. They don't like to be confused or made to think. They want that same tired plot device and story line they've been enjoying every day for years.

In other words the concept makes them think or deal with something and well....no.

The example that comes to mind is the Halloween contest where 15 entries can be two family members having mistaken identity due to masks. All 15 will do very well just as the 1000 identical stories before them did.

They want the same lunch every day here. April Fools is a different type of lunch.

I agree with you which is why I did the set up of the April Fool's joke in the beginning, set it up to backfire, and filled the rest with what readers want, lots of incestuous sex, and then gave them a surprise at the end.

I love theme contest. They're a lot of fun and always inspire my creativity.

Good luck with your story. I hope you win. The start of the April Fool's contest is just a week away and before that is the Daytona 500 and the Oscars.

"Wow! Life doesn't get any better than this, First the Valentine's Day contest, then the Daytona 500, the Oscars, and now the April Fool's Day contest. And I thought February was a dead month.."

Shit, I just realized that I don't have a life.

And I for one find twist endings really hard to come up with.
