The ruling requires Apple to provide the FBI with technology to bypass a feature that would automatically erase the data on the phone after 10 incorrect attempts at entering a password.

A lot of news sources are saying Apple is being ordered to provide the FBI with a backdoor to the encryption so they could read the data on Farook's phone. This made me wonder what sort of crappy encryption Apple was using that that could even be done. But the above article corrects that misconception.

It's not quite as bad as I initially thought, but it won't be long before you won't be able to rely on your phone's encryption to protect your data if you lose your phone.

Apparently Apple is appealing, but we shall see.

Apparently Apple is admitting that they do have the ability to help the FBI access the data, so I guess the security is about as bad as I initially thought.

Security on an electronic device is a joke.

If you want to keep your info secure don't digitize it, problem solved.

You got a Six, right? I'll trade my Five for it.

My firmware is fucking with my battery life.

Apple does this deliberately to get you to upgrade the hardware.

The company believes you should never have the older hardware.

I remember days of party lines (not 2.99/min sex chats) when your neighbour could just pick up and listen.

Back then spy agencies could send a pulse down phone lines and activate the phone using it as a microphone. Didn't have to gain access to phone and install a bug. That's just movie stuff. Real thing was much easier for groups like MI-5 and FBI.

If you are a criminal and do not use throw aways, your an incompetent criminal. If you're not a criminal, why would the FBI be looking in your phone?

You want security of your data. Use the phone the POTUS does and all the other high ranking need to know types. Blackberry?

More worrying about nothing!

My 6S is good on it's battery, like 3-4 days of on time but then again, I never really use it so....

No, I have a 5. The damn thing goes dead in about 4 hours of not even using it.

Right now, when I'm out of the home, if I don't have it tethered to a power source, it goes flat within fifteen minutes. So, after having it refurbished and all, I looked up on it. The battery is fine, but the firmware to read the battery's info to the CPU is jacked.

When you see me walking around town, I got a USB cord from my chest pocket to my phone. The Anker mobile charger I got last year is basically my life at the moment.

smart phones were never secure, your phone is tricked daily by the stingray boxes, the dirt boxes and other signal copycats to give out info so wake up already and learn about the dangers your phone is to your privacy and your life.

From what I've read, Apple will be fighting that court order (which they should). Even if Apple loses, that won't stop criminals & terrorists from using 3rd party encryption apps.

iPhones are for people so dumb they'd buy a turd if it had an Apple badge on it. They're overpriced crap.

I don't think they're overpriced at all. Especially when you factor in the return on investment. It has a fantastic resale value compared to other smartphones.

I can afford an iPhone, Groveller, but, unlike you, I'm not a moron.

If you could afford one, you'd have one.

Then again, you're not a quality guy, so maybe you wouldn't even if you could.

Ohh that looks handy for an 'oh fuck my shit's dead' moment.

My phone is faster, has more memory, better battery, a better screen and a better camera than any iPhone ever made. But you keep paying over the odds for your sub standard crap, groveller, it's funny.
