They, like cops and firemen are HEROES for volunteering to do the dirty work that keeps us safe, and yes, aside from scum like Berghdal, they all do what they are told because it was implied in their original choice.

There isn't an elephant to avoid and anyone who thinks everyone in the military is a hero is just plain naive. Our military is full of racists, thieves, rapists, murderers and all manner of unsavory folk. There is no "are you a hero or all around nice guy" box to check on the enlistment forms.
There are also plenty of people who aren't American in our military. Maybe they're Canadian heroes or Guatamalan heroes or something.

Just pointing out that in Syria and Iraq, the Obamanation stood by while Christians were murdered and their villages displaced because "those people" just hate each other and are going to kill each other no matter what we do, but now, "those people" have to be protected from Islam, because, you know, #blackliversmatter...
