Are there threads or stories that have been inspired by an image? Either an artist rendering or photo?
As a visual artist as opposed to a wordsmith that has a lot of appeal to me. The reverse would be fun too, art created based on someone's words.
Is this something that's already on here somewhere?

I dont' think this is a story idea, probably belongs in the author's hang out but I'm not a mod. Rubi will find this sooner or later and pass judgement.

On my end I can say for certain there are stories that have been inspired by an image but very few of them are things that were drawn or stuff like that. Usually it's me fliping through a magazine and seeing the story of how this woman got there or why these people are there but it's not something I can add to the story.

Again from personal experience I can tell you that if the rules could be worked out there are tons of authors who would love to have art work to go with their stories. The rules of Lit however (last I checked) demand that the artist and the author be one and the same. I'm uncertain how they even confirm that but it would probably be a bit too far to post a pic here (even one you drew) and then allow writers to use it. (Though real stories and even real movies use stock footage so I'm not sure what the difference is. Still the rules I imagine exist for a reason and I don't need to understand why mine is but to obey.

Maybe Rubi can shine a bit of light on that as well.

Having said that without permission to use the art it still couldn't hurt to post and see what people think, besides I think Lit does allow you to post links to itself in your stories so if you posted the art in Lit's illustrations we could link to it. It would be clumsy but I'm fairly certain that's within the rules. Even if I don't recall how to link in stories cus I've never personally done it.

Can you ever just answer yes or no?

Happy Friday!

My shovel is still ready :)

I wasn't sure where to put it, I'm still fairly new here as far as posting.
I was thinking of using my own personal art, so I retain all the permission for that anyhow.
I'm confused as to why an author and artist would need to be one and the same. Maybe someone can shed some light. It's fairly rare to get someone good at both. :)

Nobody is sure where to put a lot of things. Honestly there is a lot of grey area and if you were going to mess up this is probably one of your better bets. Just be glad you didn't put on the General Board where a pack of ravenous hyenas would have instantly devoured your soul. And I may very well have been amongst them. It's been a while since Mufasa let any of us into the Pride land. . .anywho.

As for your own personal art that solves a lot of the problems. To answer your question about why the author and artist need to be the same that's just how I've read the rules, here's a link and the relevant paragraph.

- Like all other submissions on Literotica, images must be your original work - i.e. comics you created, or paintings or drawings that you yourself painted or drew. Please do not submit photos or other images you have found elsewhere.

As I said before though while I'm very experienced around Lit I'm not a mod nor am I Laurel. So maybe I took the wrong meaning of that statement and as I've said plenty of times I'm uncertain how they would even enforce such a rule anyway. There of course being a world of difference between googling up a picture of Halle Berry and using it in your story and you volunteering your artwork for a story. Still I'm uncertain how that would play out.

Rubi is an excellent mod and will probably check in on this in the next 24-72 hours (probably the shallow end of that) and if she doesn't know the answer generally Laurel will descend from Olympus to converse with us mortals at her leisure but again generally sooner than later if we have a genuine query as opposed to just being whiny brats. (which we are prone to.)

The answer is sometimes. There have been unofficial contests over in the AH where a picture is submitted and all those who said they would partake write a story based on the picture. They also do stories based on a list of items, kind of like clue.

There is also a category called The Visual Artists Corner.

Might not be what you were thinking of, but... as a visual artist you could do book covers for erotic works. If you go to other erotica sites, you'll see all the stories have professional-looking book jackets, even though they're just ebooks.

Another avenue is graphic novels, but if you're more into abstract or interpretive art, that wouldn't work too well.

If your art skills extend into video, you could "interpret" erotic nudes by adding your art on a green screen behind the model, or you could be the set director/visual consultant. There's a website that features short videos - one to two minutes - of non-pornographic subject material that can lean in this direction. Maybe one out of six of them is really well done, with an artistic motif and cool music. The site is Vimeo, and the channel is artofnakedness.

On writing: many writers here say they've written stories based on a single photograph. This ties into the Stephen King approach of the "what if" scenario. For example, what if the photo of the older guy and the much younger woman isn't of a father and his (18-year-old) daughter, but of a father and the (18-year-old) babysitter he's screwing? Or perhaps now the babysitter is blackmailing the father for his sexual indiscretions.

I have seen stories in Lit's Illustrated category where the author says "I have _______________'s permission to include his/her art work in my story. We own our material respectively." (Or similar.) So, for you, it would be a matter of finding an author you mesh well with. The submission to Lit would go in the author's name and not yours (if that matters).

You could; however, post to the Erotic Art section and have full credit since you can post it in your name. Also, you could post to the Visual Artist's Corner within the bulletin board.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. :) And your post made me laugh.

That's kind of what I was thinking when I posed the question. :)

It does! Thank you! I did submit something to the erotic art section, and I was exploring in the visual artist corner, looks like I have some great options. Very helpful!

You might enjoy this.
This looks really intriguing!
Thank you so much everyone. (And I appreciate the lack of hyena descending!)

Hyenas rarely wander from the the GB and Politics Forum. Think of it like the Elephant Graveyard and Laurel assigns people like Rubi to play the role of Mufasa and keeps us out.

Psst. Don't tell them I'm not a spotted black maned lion. They haven't seen through my disguise.

A lot of my stories come from a single photo. I've even used the photo angle in a couple, The Photographer and Marla Sue come to mind first.

I have a fine of pictures to stories that I work off of when the urge comes to me. 15 stories from it in work at the present and another 7 in waiting, and another 7 that have been finished just recently.

Drop me a link to your art work, I'd be interested to see it. Luis Royo has been a big inspiration is a lot of my stories.

Or if you're not shy you can just share here.

Also Lois Royo is fucking incredible, particularly if you're looking for goth style art.

Not nearly a big enough fan to do that. Though I do know of one of his pictures that could easily have inspired the title. But I don't know the names of his art.

Ha. The one I would have guessed is actually Boris Vallejo. I kinda get those two switched up fairly easily.

Cecil, you're not dead afterall!

NextDoorSecret, I'm happy to help. :)

OP, can you link to some of your work? I'm open to the idea of writing a story around a picture.
