Freedom's New Guard Interest & Recruiting thread

Welcome and Salutations!

I am Uatu, the Watcher... I have been charged with observing your world since before humanity was the dominate species. I have watched as your greatest explorers became your greatest heroes. I have watched as you turn accident into triumph. I have watched selfless acts define a lifetime, I have seen the flash of genius define the future. I have watched legends be born... and return when most needed. I have watched adversity turn into purpose.

Over and over again, I have watched all of this and so much more... since that is the task that has been bequeathed to me by the universe.

Now then... we've gotten into the mood of super-heroes! As if all the really good super-hero movies that has been coming out (and that are coming up for our enjoyment), and the fact that Avengers: The Age of Ultron has been released today here in the United States! Ant-Man is coming a little bit later (and from the trailers and sneak peaks it looks as if Marvel has made Ant-Man actually look AWESOME), Batman vs. Superman is coming out much later (please Affleck don't screw this up like you did to Daredevil)!

We've got Agents of SHIELD on ABC (with a few spin offs coming next season), and we've got Daredevil on Netflix (My God they finally got Daredevil right) so we've got a great deal of super-heroes in the mainstream!

That's right all you football players and cheerleaders who bullied and beat us up in High School, it looks as we're the cool kids now!
Bawhawhawhaw!

er... sorry about that madman maniac laugh that would cause the Joker to wet himself... I have no idea where that came from.

Ahem... anyway, let's get down to brass tacks before another maniac laugh comes on...

As you can possibly tell I am here trying to exploit such amazing things as Super Heroes becoming so mainstream to create an online super-hero role-playing campaign... and since this is a super-hero campaign that is recruiting here on Lit, we are definitely going to have some Adult Themes. Because let's face it, Real Life is full of adult themes... be it substance abuse, bullying or alternate lifestyle choices! The world is full of things that we deal with every day that the old Comic Code Authority that many of us grew up with would never let get their approval for publishing!

But I really don't want this to be a game that is going to come across as a porn parody movie, but instead an attempt to have a superhero game that has real life issues popping up and be about how people who've gotten some kind of blessing/curse of the genetic lottery that made them a meta-human (or even someone whose determination has allowed them to train themselves to become the best they can possibly be) in a manner that proves that we are indeed all adults!

As you can see from this post, I've set up an Interest/Recruiting Thread on both the Online Role-Play boards as well as the Sexual Role Playing boards that will have as much background info for the campaign setting... because this is going to be something that i really want to do, and find players (well, co-writers really) who love the medium and would like to explore it in a manner that benefits our more mature tastes. Who knows, this might inspire a few of us to start writing on our own and self-publish our stories over on Kindle like I've seen others do in the past.

Tonight, I'll be posting on here details about the campaign setting and how it differs from the one published by Green Roinin Games in a few ways... but to get an idea of where we are starting from, we will be starting with the published Freedom City setting for their "Mutants & Masterminds" setting. But with a few things added that we've created or been inspired from Marvel or DC Comics.

Pretty much any superhero character archetypes are open. Even those mystic/magic user types (Doctor Strange, Zatanna, Doctor Fate, ect), since this is going to be a text RP where we'll be trusting each other not to take a piss out of each other and try and 'God Mod' everyone else... because where's the fun in that? But if there are those who want to use some kind of game system for the 'crunchie' parts to measure against each other incase of conflicts, we'll use the Mutants & Masterminds 2e RPG rules. I've got all the books on PDF, and can work with each player using my hero lab to build such characters if that's what everyone wants. :)

We've got room for virtually any kind of character that you'd find in a super-hero story.... hell, we've even got someone who will be playing the Voice (the head of TOTEM, and thus the head of SPIDER, DISCORD and HAVOC) who's a major puppet master of various multi-generational criminal and other influence networks that has spread all across the globe! To get an idea of how he'll operate, think of "The Light" from the Young Justice cartoon... no one knows what he looks like, since he uses middlemen & cloaking devices when he communicates to his operatives (hell, no one knows if he's a guy for that matter)!

We've also got a cyborg mercenary that's a lot like the original Deadlock character in Marvel Comics, called "Splint"!

My character is American Patriot (MSG Nathaniel Hale Spaight, US Army - Ret.), a costumed super-soldier... he's not Captain America, he's a grunt. a career sergeant who's southern heritage and plain spokenness contrast greatly with the more 'Boy Scout' image that most imagine when they hear "Super-Soldier"... in fact he's known to exclaim, "I ain't a damn hero... I'm a Super-Solider. Now git that frakking camera outta my face!" is his normal statement when a camera gets stuck in his face and the reporters start asking him why he became a super-hero!

So as you can see... the doors pretty wide open.

OOps. :) cut and paste on the notes! sorry about that.

sounds great, I'm in. Now I just have to work out what type of hero to be LOL. So many choices.

Welcome aboard Aussie_Wolf!

i'll be posting the background info tomorrow afternoon on the interest & recruiting threads!

I'm going to be posting the campaign background info today, as well the basic profile information for our characters. :)

I'm thinking we can use this thread for working up our characters, and when I start the OOC thread I'll then post our characters as the opening posts on the thread... if someone who knows how to do the links that go straight to threads and posts and can show me how to do that, we can use that as well for character background information.

well that sounds good to me I am not sure i can help you with the whole linking thing but I have no problem helping you organize the information and campaign background if you need help with that.

I don't know if you want to do a straight up character sheet or some thing more out of the role playing books but i can send you a sample of a really simple concise character sheet if need be. Some people dont want to go as in depth as say one from the book might I have to admit I am a relative loner in real life so even though table top role playing has always been a dream of mine it's some thing I have yet to do so I would probably need some help creating some thing from say the actual book.

I do however no I want to do some thing off of daredevil blind guy enhanced senses ugh I even kind of want to do the whole heavy catholic thing (I just find it makes for a fascinating character) though i dont want to rip to much off of Daredevil.

I've a detailed timeline for my tabletop campaign where i combined elements drawn from Marvel and DC Comics to the Freedom City-verse... I've cut and pasted some of the background info from the main book (with slight alteration to the timeline to push the events surrounding the Terminus Invasion to 2002 during the period after the 9/11 attacks to give it a bit of 'current' feel)....

i've also included some of the timeline info, minus the stuff from Marvel and DC (with the exception of the agency ARGUS and their headquarters in the Baxter Building as the agency responsible for studying both alien and advanced tech that has been confiscated by the government)... if allowable, i'd include my version of SHIELD replacing the Freedom-verse AEGIS (Well, not exactly... my version of SHIELD has a very long history of successor organizations that shaped SHIELD being it's own department of the executive branch).

DAWN OF A NEW CENTURY: 1900–1940

The start of the twentieth century saw Freedom City as a modern metropolis, but the gay abandon of the 1920s quickly gave way to the violence of gangsters and Prohibition. After that, the Great Depression saw fortunes ruined and the city sank into economic and social despair. The city and federal governments instituted work programs for the legions of Freedom City's unemployed, including a number of construction and beautification projects.

The start of the twentieth century bore witness to an event that forever altered the future of Freedom City and the world, although no one was aware of it at the time. Many saw comets as omens, but in 1918, the spectacular “comet” that appeared over Freedom City was in fact a life-pod from an alternate universe arriving in a flash of fire and cosmic power. Scientists speculate the arrival of the life-pod released a cascade of extra-dimensional energies, but perhaps something unusual about the city actually drew the life-pod there. Whatever the case, Freedom City quickly became a focus for the unexpected and the strange.

In the 1930s, adventurers and "mystery men" like the Bluesman, Doc Prophet, and John Danger operated in Freedom City, their exploits written about in the pulp magazines. Although their adventures were often fantastic, it was easy for the public to dismiss them as just stories, and their unusual powers as tall tales or exaggerations.

The first to truly carry the mantle of "superhero" was the Centurion, who revealed his presence to the world when he thwarted a robbery of the First National Bank of Freedom City in 1938. Bullets bounced off his golden breastplate and he lifted a getaway car into the air like a toy. The Centurion seemed to trigger the appearance of other many heroes, including Midnight, the Bowman, Freedom Eagle, and Johnny Rocket. There were rumors Lantern Jack had returned to his old haunts on the hill, although they remained unconfirmed for over a year.

Not long thereafter, in Germany, people got their first look at der Übermensch, Hitler’s "Over-Man," poster-boy of the Aryan "Master Race."

With powers to rival the Centurion, Übermensch left many nations worried about the future. What no one knew at the time was Hitler's so-called "Aryan superman" wasn't German, or even truly human, in fact, but a rogue member of a secret race of superhumans known as the Ultima.

As the banner headline of the Freedom Ledger read, "The Age of the Super-Man" had arrived. Costumed crime-busters were no longer "mystery men," they were "super-heroes" and their foes were "super-criminals" or "super-villains." The term "super" entered common usage to refer to anyone with powers or abilities beyond those of ordinary people. Although scientists preferred terms like "metahuman" or "paranormal," to most people, they were supers, and so they remain.

THE WORLD AT WAR: 1941–1945

Although a number of supermen were active by the 1940s, the summer of 1941 saw the first appearance of the first super woman, with the same name and motif as the Revolutionary-era Lady Liberty, but this Lady Liberty could fly through the air and stop tanks with her bare hands. The sultry Siren appeared not long thereafter, gifted with powers from the sea, including a hypersonic singing voice.

On December 7th, 1941, the empire of Japan made a sneak-attack against the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. One day later, a strange visitor appeared in Freedom City—the man known as Dr. Tomorrow. Arranging a meeting with President Roosevelt, Doc revealed he came from some fifty years into the future—a future where the Axis powers defeated the Allies and ruled a world without freedom or justice. He offered his help to change that future, and the president immediately ordered the formation of a team of American mystery men, led by Dr. Tomorrow and called the Liberty League.

Freedom City hosted the League’s public headquarters, although they split their activities between the homefront and the European and Pacific Theatres of war, thwarting the plots of spies, saboteurs, and Axis super-soldiers. America was also plagued with homegrown criminals and bundists, some of whom became enemies of the Liberty League and banded together to form the first Crime League.

The Liberty League was not the only group of heroes during the war. Several heroes from different nations banded together as the Allies of Freedom. They were more active behind the lines in Europe, with the Liberty League operating based on Dr. Tomorrow’s unusual insights. One thing Dr. Tomorrow did not account for (as he was himself unaware of it) was the influence of the mystical Thule Society in Germany and the Green Dragon Society in Japan, operating behind the scenes and using their occult powers to aid the Axis.

THE LIBERTY LEAGUE
The Liberty League was the world’s first true superhero team and the premier team during the 1940s and ‘50s. A number of heroes banded together under orders from President Roosevelt and the guidance of Dr. Tomorrow, the Man from the Future.

DR. TOMORROW (TOM MORGAN/TOMAS MORGEN): A time-traveler from a future world where the Axis won World War II.

BEACON (LANGSTON ALBRIGHT): A later addition to the League, wielder of a mystic white light.

BOWMAN (FLETCHER BEAUMONT) & ARROW (TIM QUINN): A crusading newspaperman and his young ward, who used their archery expertise and an arsenal of trick arrows to fight crime.

CENTURION (MARK LEEDS): Strange visitor from another Earth with powers of super-strength and endurance.

DR. ATOM (ALEXANDER ATOM): Brilliant scientist and explorer, who more often worked in an advisory capacity with the League.

ELDRICH (ADRIAN ELDRICH): Mysterious master of the arcane arts who advised the League in mystic matters, but otherwise operated largely on his own.

ENVOY (SARLYN): Envoy from Utopia, sent to better understand humanity and, later, to prevent the Axis from threatening his homeland.

FREEDOM EAGLE (MICHAEL O'CONNOR): Engineer who designed a winged flight suit the Nazis attempted to steal.

JOHNNY ROCKET (JOHNNY WADE): Young lab assistant exposed to chemicals that gave him super-human speed.

LADY LIBERTY (DONNA MASON): FBI secretary invested with the power of the Spirit of Liberty after she uncovered a Nazi sabotage plot. Lady Liberty possessed superstrength and wielded "the Light of Liberty."

MIDNIGHT (TRAVIS HUNTER): Dark-clad crimefighter and peerless detective with a “midnight mist” able to black out an area.

PATRIOT (JACK SIMMONS): Subject of a government super-soldier program, possessing near-perfect physical abilities and combat training.

SIREN (LYNN SIDON): Torch singer lost overboard in a Nazi U-boat attack. Rescued by Prince Thallor of Atlantis and granted mystic sonic and aquatic powers in accordance with an Atlantean prophecy.

THE ALLIES OF FREEDOM

The Allies of Freedom were more of a war-front team than the Liberty League. While the League acted under orders from the President and traveled around the world protecting Allied interests and the homefront, the Allies fought primarily in Europe, where they were well known. It wasn’t until after the war that stories of their exploits and heroism reached the United States.

Most of the members of the Allies were killed by their archenemies, Wilhelm Kantor and the shadow-villain Nacht-Krieger during the final days of the war. The Japanese villain Crimson Katana killed the Human Tank and Gunner, the last survivors of the team, in Japan in 1946.

LE REYNARD ROGUE (AMELIE DUTEMPS): Masked French Resistance fighter renowned for her cunning, the “Rogue Fox” was the bane of Nazis occupying France and the leader of the Allies.

THE HUMAN TANK (HANK GRIFFIN & GUNNER (TOMMY GRIFFIN): American brothers granted super-powers in a lab explosion; Hank (the Human Tank) was transformed into “living metal” while Tommy (Gunner) could create sprays of metal and absorb metal weapons, including bullets, into his body.

LADY CELTIC (AMANDA PHIPPS-GORDON): British woman wielding the magical power of the druids, later Hank Griffin’s wife.

SERGEANT SHRAPNEL (TONY GORMAN): American soldier abducted by aliens who granted him the power to make metallic objects, particularly machines, stop working or explode.

SPITFIRE JONES (HORATIO “DAVID” JONES): British RAF pilot able to fly, and exert considerable strength while doing so. He was a dedicated foe of the German Red Eagle.

WHITE ROSE & WHITE THORN (SOPHIE & WOLFGANG SHAAL): German wielders of the mystic “White Light” hunted by SS officer Wilhelm Kantor and Nacht-Krieger. White Rose and White Thorn imprisoned Nacht-Krieger in the sea near Freedom City and their powers were passed on to Langston Albright, the Beacon.

POST-WAR FREEDOM: 1945–1959

In 1945, World War II came to an end with the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although Dr. Tomorrow returned home to the future, the Liberty League remained together. Freedom Eagle became their new chairman and they maintained their headquarters in Freedom City. With the war over, they fought profiteers in occupied Japan and Germany, aided in the rebuilding of Europe, and fought the Crime League and other malcontents in America. Earth’s first modern contact with extraterrestrial life came in 1947, when a scout ship from the Grue Unity crashed in the American Southwest after being damaged in a skirmish in space with their enemies from the Lor Republic.

The U.S. government covered up the crash and took possession of the wreckage and the remains of the crew.

By the 1950s, the specter of communism was growing in the minds of Americans, and some began to question whether or not costumed heroes presented the proper image to American citizens, particularly impressionable young children. Politicians accused costumed heroes of encouraging vigilantism and promoting immorality. The government also became increasingly concerned with the independence of superheroes and sought to tighten their control, especially over the highly visible Liberty League. By this time the League operated on private donations—largely the fortune of Fletcher Beaumont (the Bowman)—and did not rely on government authority or approval.

The activities of a Grue scouting party on Earth did not help matters. The shapeshifting aliens sowed paranoia and suspicion in the United States. Although the truth of their presence was never revealed to the general public, and the Grue were rooted out and exposed, they drove a wedge between heroes like the Liberty League and an already mistrustful government. One rogue Grue, eventually known to humans as Pseudo, remained on Earth in the guise of journalist Rick Fox.

In 1955, the House un-American Activities Committee called the members of the Liberty League to testify, raising allegations of communist sympathies and immoral activities. The Committee demanded the League unmask and reveal their true names and identities as well as submit to governmental supervision. When the Leaguers refused to do so, the government declared the team dissolved and the League reluctantly disbanded.

Some of its members continued to operate on their own for a few years, while others quietly disappeared into retirement. It would take a major crisis to reunite them. Only Centurion and a few other heroes remained active by the end of the decade.

HEROES RETURN: 1960–1970

By the start of the 1960s, much of the Red Scare fervor of the HUAC hearings and the disbanding of the Liberty League had died down. Heroes like Centurion and Lady Liberty continued to operate, largely ignoring criticism of their activities. Prosperity across America seemed to bring out both the good and the bad, as supervillains returned from inactivity and new threats appeared from the skies and other dimensions. Luckily, heroes old and new answered the call, and superheroes returned to Freedom City.

In 1960, the Greek god Hades invaded Freedom City with an army of the dead from Tartarus. A number of heroes united to oppose him, including Centurion, Lady Liberty, Daedalus, and the Raven. They were successful and Zeus forbade Hades to so directly interfere in mortal affairs again. Afterward, the heroes chose to remain together as a team to deal with similar threats that might arise, threats too great for any one of them, a team like the Liberty League. Since the Liberty League was no more, they would be known as: the Freedom League!

The public reacted positively to the return of the heroes, and teams like the Freedom League and later the Atom Family became celebrities and role models for a new generation of heroes. While new heroes began coming to Freedom City or elsewhere, old and new supervillains made their presence known as well.

The most dangerous and hated of these villains were surviving Axis super-agents like the Crimson Katana and Nacht-Krieger, not to mention a revived Crime League and SHADOW.

Since few if any superheroes wished to work under government supervision, the United States government created the American Elite Government Intervention Service (AEGIS) in 1962 to deal with superhuman and paranormal threats to public and national safety. Jack Simmons—formerly the Patriot of the Liberty League—was appointed the agency’s first director.

Throughout the 1960s, superhuman activity continued to rise, as if the years away had concentrated the wills of heroes and villains alike. Invasions from space and other dimensions became almost commonplace, but unlike the previous decades, humanity’s faith in its heroes rarely wavered for long. Omega and the Terminus first attempted to invade Freedom City in 1965, and some speculate that the aftereffects of the incursion may have contributed to the rise of superhuman activity in the area.

FREEDOM'S TWILIGHT: 1970–1990

The 1970s saw the beginning of another decline for costumed superheroes. Heroes fell prey to villains and their own human frailties. Others went missing for long periods of time or left Earth for other endeavors, while still more began to feel their age and retired or passed away.

An increasing number of occult scares occurred during the 1970s, including the arrival of the vampire lord Dracula in Freedom City and the exposure of several “Satanic” cults, most of them connected with the long-hidden Serpent People. The murderous Jack-a-Knives went on a killing spree in the summer of 1977 while the Atom Family grappled with the lupine Wolfjack (actually their teammate Jack Wolf, under the influence of the cosmic Moonstone). Mystic figures like Lantern Jack and Eldrich were often associated with these happenings, although few gave them any credence.

By the late-1980s/early-1990s, the public felt abandoned by the same heroes they counted on in years past. New heroes walked the streets of Freedom, but darker and more violent, capable of using deadly force to fight their foes.

Their excesses seemed to fit the mood of the nation. Even today, sociologists debate whether the darkness of the 1990s in Freedom City was a result of the darker heroes of the time or if they merely grew darker to reflect the overall attitudes of society of the "Decade of Lies and Deceit."

In 1990, Freedom City elected Franklin Moore mayor on a platform of “zero tolerance” for vigilantism. He was supported by the Citizens for Order, Decency, and Ethics (CODE), and secretly backed by some influential crime families. Mayor Moore quickly outlawed "costumed vigilantism" in "his" city. Costumed heroes became illegal, and would be arrested if they continued to operate outside the law. Some heroes, like Centurion, felt they had no choice but to obey the law and retired or left Freedom City. Other new heroes chose to defy the law, and Archer (Ethan Keller, formerly the third Arrow) forged a number of them into a team called FORCE Ops (Freelance ORganization of Criminal Elimination Operatives). For the rest of the decade, grim vigilantes fought a shadow war with psychotic criminals and gangsters, opposed by an increasingly corrupt police force and the mayor’s office, which were both heavily influenced by the most powerful criminal kingpins.

A NEW FREEDOM

Freedom City's fortunes seemed bleak for a long time, but the turn of the century saw changes both large and small heralding a new day in the city by the bay. The city's darkest hour was the Terminus Invasion. Omega and his forces once again invaded Freedom City, but this time there were fewer heroes to stop them and they quickly established a beachhead.

Although the FORCE Ops fought back, they were no match for an army of Omegadrones, let alone Omega himself. The world's heroes united against Omega, resulting in a climatic battle in Freedom City, devastating the downtown area. A number of heroes perished in the struggle, including Andrea Atom, Mentac, members of FORCE Ops, and Centurion himself, who sacrificed his life in single combat with Omega, shattering the mad nihilist’s support-armor and driving him back into the Terminus.

In the aftermath of the Terminus Invasion, large areas of Freedom City were damaged or destroyed, the downtown area all but leveled, and some of the world's greatest heroes were dead, but the bravery and sacrifice of those heroes kept things from being far worse. Freedom City reeled from the terrible blow, and might never have recovered had it not been for two figures: Doctor Metropolis and Michael O'Connor.

A mysterious entity of concrete, glass, and steel rose from the rubble of the city after Omega's defeat. Known as Dr. Metropolis, this "urban spirit" used his amazing powers to help restore Freedom City, making it better and stronger than ever before. He hardly worked alone, as heroes like Daedalus (who returned from his wanderings in space to help fight Omega) pitched in however they could. Some initially believed Metropolis was the soul or reincarnation of the Centurion, though this has since been proven nothing more than a rumor.

The city also found new leadership in the form of Michael Cameron O'Connor JR (the son of the first Freedom Eagle), the former President & CEO of O'Connor Technologies (a position his son, Michael Cameron O'Connor III would assume as his father was required to step down prior to being sworn into office). After being Elected mayor in the aftermath of the Terminus Invasion, Michael O'Connor JR worked tirelessly to clean up the city's politics, strengthen the police department, draw a line against crime, and create new prosperity and jobs, with great success. Most importantly, he oversaw the repeal of the Moore Act, making Freedom City a welcome home once again to the heroes that saved it and the world.

Public confidence followed these brave men and their actions. Freedom City saw advancements in economics and technology through the 1990s and its population increased accordingly. New heroes began appearing as suddenly as they had in the 1940s and ‘60s, and many veteran heroes returned publicly or in secret to guide and advise a new generation. New incarnations of older heroes and institutions rose again, and Freedom City is proud to be home to more superheroes than any other city in the world. Recent years have seen the expansion of the Freedom League in the wake of an alien invasion, to better safeguard Earth from all manner of threats.

Now, Freedom City strides boldly into the twenty-first century. The city and its heroes prosper in the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding. Although the world and the city still face many challenges, the future of Freedom looks bright indeed.

Some important events...

In mid-1972, Franklin Moore makes his first attempt at running for Mayor of Freedom City.

Late-1978, Franklin Moore once more fails to be elected Mayor of Freedom City.

In 1979, adventurer Duncan Summers returns home after having discovered a lost fabled treasure during his travels through Asia that makes him one of the wealthiest men in the United States. Unfortunately, while he was discovering the fabulous lost treasure his parents and younger sister was killed by mob violence. Duncan Summers would dedicate his life and wealth to combating crime in Freedom City as the costumed vigilante known as the first Raven.

Early-1984, The Blackstone Riot occurs when Doc Abattoir and Countess Azure mastermind a prison break at Blackstone Penitentiary, but their plan goes awry and the escaped super-criminals are forced to take hostages after setting off a riot inside the prison. Botched handling by Freedom City’s administration leaves the warden and forty guards dead by the end of the siege, along with almost a dozen inmates, including the instigators of the riot. A total breakdown and mass escape is prevented only by quick action from a rookie guard named Joshua Drummer and Dr. Abby Wallace, one of the prison security experts. Blame for the disaster falls on the city’s administration as well as absent heroes like the former Freedom Leaguers, despite evidence that various distractions were arranged to keep heroes like Centurion occupied when the prison-break occurred. CODE, in particular, rails against the failures leading up to the incident, and the group’s membership swells in its wake.

Mid-1984, Jasmine Sin gives birth to the daughter of the Raven I (Duncan Summers) after the two had fallen in love and had a secret affair.

Late-1984, after co-opting CODE ("Citizens for Order, Decency and Ethics") Franklin Moore is finally elected mayor of Freedom City on a platform of “zero-tolerance” for crime and vigilantism, which includes costumed vigilantes as well. Moore’s campaign rails against failures like the Blackstone Riot and the apparent inability of costumed heroes to defend the city, given incidents like Bowman’s public failures and the disbanding of the Freedom League. The support of CODE and similar grassroots groups features strongly in the campaign. The new mayor’s first act in office is to outlaw costumed heroes. With the signing of the Moore Act, even stalwarts like Centurion are forced to stop operating in Freedom City rather than defy the new law. Centurion begins operating out of his Sanctum and focuses his efforts globally rather than locally in Freedom.

In early-1985, Archer forms FORCE Ops in defiance of the Moore Act, uniting a young and sometimes brutal cadre of heroes to fight Mayor Moore’s corrupt political machine along with more standard menaces and enemies. The new heroes are quickly branded outlaws by the administration and the Freedom City Police Department.

26 April 1986, a Soviet nuclear reactor in Chernobyl suffers a massive systems failure.

In mid-1989, Freedom City celebrates its bicentennial.

November 1989, the Berlin Wall is torn down.

In late-1989, The Crimson Mask steals the Mirror of Souls from Eldrich’s sanctum and uses it to restore Overshadow’s shattered mind, allowing the arch-villain to seize control of SHADOW once more.

The Iron Age (1990-2001): The Iron Age was punctuated by brutality and violence, and was thankfully a short and dark time in the annals of Meta-Humans. So much so that many commentators on meta-human activities have often times referred to it as the Dark Age. It is during this period that many cities such as Freedom City had passed local laws that had outlawed both costume vigilantes and Meta-Humans living or operating in their cities. And many of these cities became rife with corruption and violent street crimes that spiraled out of control throughout what many also call the decade of Greed and Deceit.

Mid-1990, Overshadow returns, armed with the Tapestry of Fate, and attempts to kill AEGIS Director Jack Simmons. The former Patriot overcomes his old foe. After Overshadow falls to his apparent death, it's widely believed that SHADOW is broken and defeated. In the wake of Simmons' retirement and SHADOW's apparent defeat, public and administration support from AEGIS begins to wane. The cost of operating the agency is increasingly called into question and AEGIS is in serious danger of being de-funded or incorporated into other federal agencies.

Late-1990, the Cold War begins to come to an end with the collapse of the USSR and the reunification of East and West Germany.

November 1990, Franklin Moore is reelected to a second term in office thanks to the continued support of CODE and similar citizen-action groups is pivotal.

The Eyes of Night return to Freedom City and operate in defiance of the Moore Act in the West End and Fens neighborhoods.

In early-1993, Mentac and Andrea Atom give birth to Maximus 'Max' Atom.

In late 1993, Raven I (Duncan Summers) retires from active costumed adventuring to raise his nine year old daughter Callie after the death of his beloved wife Jasmine. Duncan Summers had used his wealth to fund the purchase of the Claremont Academy, an ailing private boarding school in Freedom City that had at one time been one of the finest preparatory schools in the country in the late-1980s. Summers had encountered juvenile meta-humans and saw that they needed a way to be given a positive focus, so he saw the use of the Claremont Academy as the perfect outlet. In his retirement from active costumed adventuring Duncan Summers would dedicate himself to raising his daughter, and educating meta-human children in the responsible use of their various gifts as the Headmaster of the Claremont Academy.

In mid-1994, Mentac and Andrea Atom give birth to Tesla 'Tess' Atom.

In 1996, Mentac and Andrea Atom give birth to Victoria 'Vicki' Atom.

Late-1996, Franklin Moore is reelected to a third term in office, despite rumors and accusations of political corruption, misappropriation of funds, and nepotism within the administration. Once again, the support of CODE and similar citizen-action groups is pivotal. It will later be revealed the Moore campaign has aid from criminal organizations, from the Freedom City Mob to shell political action committees funded by SHADOW and the Labyrinth.

In 1998, Mentac and Andrea Atom give birth to Chase Atom.

In early 2001, Callie Summers starts to operate as the costumed adventuress, the second Night Raven over the objections of her father Duncan Summers (the first Raven).

11 September 2001, a coordinated attack carried out by the terrorist al-Qaeda network destroys the World Trade Centre twin towers and heavily damage the Pentagon bring an official end of the Iron Age of Modern Heroics.

The Modern Age (2001-Pres.): The Modern Age started with the September Eleventh Terrorist Attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington County, followed by a year later with the Terminus Invasion in Freedom City.

11 September 2001, a group of al-Qaeda terrorists carried out the hijacking of four airliners and used them as weapons of mass destruction on 11 September 2001… the September 11th Terror Attacks destroyed both of the World Trade Centre towers and damaged a section of the Pentagon. The fourth airliner was to have attacked the Capitol Building, but the passengers learned what had happened to the WTC and chose to fight back and attempt to retake the liner from the terrorist. But instead the liner crashed into a Pennsylvanian field. This attack shown the world that they did not only have to worry about mega-threats posed by meta-humans, extra-dimensional or extra-terrestrial threats. But even normal humans could deliver the same kind of devastation if given a chance.

In the aftermath of the September Eleventh Terror Attacks saw a major change in the American Psyche when it came to their meta-Human population… for the most part, they were no longer feared and despised by the general public. Especially after groups like the Brotherhood of Mutants had actually helped stop the forces of Terminus during their invasion of Metropolis, and Freedom City… and had actually arrived to provide help in New York City after the September 11th Attack on the World Trade Centre.

Mid-2002, the forces of the Terminus under Lord Omega invade Freedom City.

The largest alliance of heroes ever seen unites to repel the inter-dimensional invaders, including many heroes not seen in Freedom City for years. Many heroes are seriously injured, killed, or lost in the ensuing battle. Centurion sacrifices himself to shatter Omega’s support armor, forcing the dimensional overlord to retreat back into the Terminus. Freedom City and the world mourn the loss of their greatest hero. FORCE Ops is no more in the aftermath of the invasion, leaving Freedom without a team of resident heroes once more.

The Terminus Invasion ended with the death of the Centurion after his one-on-one fight with Lord Omega that had forced the forces of the Terminus to withdraw from our reality.

The sacrifice of AEGIS agent Luke Bonham (killed in action during the invasion) and the clear threat posed by the Terminus revitalizes support for AEGIS and helps to heal rifts between the organization and the superhero community. The Terminus invasion also prompts the United States to create two new Executive Branch departments… the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Meta-Human Affairs (expanded from the Office of Meta-Human Affairs). The Department of Meta-Human Affairs was originally the Office of Meta-Human Affairs and had been part of the Executive Branch of the government that acted as advisors to the President of the United States… The Department of Meta-Human Affairs was created to handle a wide range of issues dealing with Meta-Humans in the United States, and during the Bush Administration was remarked to have been instrumental in improving public acceptance of meta-Humans. Much of this came from the DMHA organizing groups of meta-human volunteers in providing help and support during natural disasters and other community improvement events.

Doctor Metropolis makes his presence known in Freedom City and lends his powers to the reconstruction effort, allowing it to occur at tremendous speed.

Late-2002, Jack Wolf returns to Freedom City, with Andrea Atom and Mentac missing and presumed dead following Omega’s defeat. Due to Dr. Atom himself dying of cancer and transferring his intellect into an experimental holographic computer system, Jack becomes the legal guardian of the Atom children.

November 2002, Michael O'Conner JR is elected Mayor of Freedom City using his "No Moore" Campaign Slogan after a year-long campaign to fight not only the political corruption of the Moore administration that was bolstered by the Terminus Invasion, but it allowed him to purge the corrupt city political machine apparatus. During his first six year term as Mayor of the Freedom City, Mayor Michael O'Conner JR spent a great deal of effort in restoring the people's faith in their City government. Mayor O'Conner establishes Honor Day, an annual city-wide holiday to commemorate the defeat of Omega and the sacrifice of the Centurion and the other fallen heroes responsible during the dedication of the Sentry Statue in Riverside Park. Many observers and pundits had watched in awe has the new charismatic O'Conner had cleaned up a local Democratic Party that was seen as being almost as corrupt as found in the city of Chicago during his first term in office.

December 2002, the creation of a think-tank composed of child prodigies whom are given pretty much unlimited resources to study the captured and confiscated weapons and equipment of the invaders. Due to the severe damage to Freedom City, the government builds the ARGUS Complex at Four Freedoms Plaza, inside the Baxter Building in New York City. The name of the organization becomes known as ARGUS aka "Advanced Research Group of the United States."

January 2003, Michael O'Connor JR is sworn in as the new Mayor of Freedom City… during his first hundred days in office he takes measures that will purge nearly all of the corrupt officials of the previous Moore Administration. Mayor O’Connor officially repeals the Moore Act, making costumed heroes legal in Freedom City once again. Many of the heroes who came to fight Omega choose to remain and help with reconstruction. A grateful city welcomes their return with open arms and the so-called “Iron Age” draws to a close with the reestablishment of the Freedom League by Captain Thunder.

Mid-July 2012, the Atom Family officially announces that their mother Andrea Atom had survived the Terminus Invasion and had been trapped within the Terminus, and that it had been through the efforts of the << small team >> had returned her to them. Also part of their official statement is the announcement that their father Prince Mentac of Farside had not survived in an effort to close his estate, since the truth of the matter was something so outside anything legally could be understood.

Mid-September 2012, a heavily armed group of terrorists carry out a coordinated attack on the US Diplomatic Mission in Bengazi, Libya. The attack leaves US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other American Citizens dead, and leaves two Americans and seven Libyans severely injured. The news of this attack distracts attention to the loss of a Covert CIA SOG Team that was led by Calvin Lord in an elaborate ambush in the Central Asian Republics, all members of the team were declared killed in action… but in truth Calvin Lord survived his injuries and would be brainwashed into becoming the field commander of HAVOC.

July 2014, newly promoted Police Detective Third Grade Margaret Meghan Allen, her grandfather a retired-Deputy Police Commissioner and her senior partner are the victims of an apparent drive-by shooting. Det. Meg Allen is left in a coma, while her beloved grandfather and new partner are killed.

November 2014, Michael O'Conner JR is re-elected as Mayor of Freedom City for a second time despite the fact that his popularity had slowly started to wane due to his support for a number of unpopular policies of the Obama Administration. This was one of the reasons that saw the continued change in the make-up of the City Council, and the election of one of the most ardent champions of those in opposition to many of his social policies.

December 2014, Meg Allen awakes from a coma... learning that she will be medically retired from the Freedom City Police Department shortly after being told of the deaths of her Grandfather and Partner.

Sorry for the silence, but i've been dealing with a nasty migraine... thankfully I have an appointment to see my primary care physician this Thursday, which will hopefully mean that he'll be able to give me something to make things much more bearable!

But no matter what, I'm going to try and get things ready for us to start our RP on Friday 15 May 2015 with our first story arch... "Crisis at Freedom Hall" that will see to it that our characters find themselves drawn together!

Here is a list of character archetypes drawn from the Mutants & Masterminds RPG, i'll be adding to this with character archetypes from other Super-Hero RPGs as soon as I can get them typed up... if anyone has any ideas for superhero archetypes that can be used to inspire characters (both PCs and NPCS), please post them so I can add them here!

Ethnicity:Caucasian

Powers: Jason is a speedster able to hit speeds up to Mach 10 but he is getting faster all the time. He generates a buffer zone around himself that deflects the effects of wind currents and this extends to anything and anyone he holds enabling him to travel at vast speeds in his normal clothes without ripping them to shreds. His metabolism is also sped up making him immune to most poisons, alcohol and enabling him to eat pretty much anything he wants without gaining an ounce of weight and rapid healing. He gained this ability through his mothers line but through his fathers line he has enhanced senses and the ability to change his fingers into claws that can cut through steel. His sense of smell and sight are enhanced to the point where he can track a person by scent and see in darkness as long as there is even a hint of a light source.

Skills:The usual speed tricks. Vibrating through walls, Running over water, up the side of buildings, landing a hundred blows in a second etc. He can also open a car like a can of sardines, and combining his speed and claws cut through most metals and other materials. Above average hand to hand fighter, trained martial arts fighter, black belts in judo, tie-kwan-do, trained in muay tai.

Normal attire:Jason is your typical kid. Jeans, T-shirts, sneakers, jackets etc.

Motivation:Jason is the son of two retired superheroes from Australia who never hit the big time. They helped out around the place but did not come out into the spotlight. He is determined to do more with his powers than they did. He worked hard and got a scholarship to Freedom city university for the one purpose of being in the city with the highest population of heroes to prove himself.

Complications:Jason is still a kid and often runs in without thinking things through relying on his speed to pull him out of any sticky situation he may get into.

Languages:With his speed Jason is able to study a lot faster and retain facts quicker. He has learned several languages including Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, French, German and Hindi. At the moment he is learning Russian.

I really like your character Aussie Wolf! I've got a couple of questions...

What kind of powers & codenames does his parents have? One of our NPCs will be able to find out since they are a cyberpathic computer guru that can find out anything that's been electronically recorded. :)

and what color is the metallic runners bodysuit?

Father was an Aussie hero codename Dingo
His powers were pretty much the same enhanced senses, claws, but he had strength as well. (3tonne limit)

Mother was Scottish born living in Australia codename Blue Streak
Her top speed was 100 times the speed of sound and she wore a blue full length costume hence the name.

Metallic runners suit is basically just how it sounds. It is made of a fully segmented but body hugging light weight polished metal. If you are trying to think of how it would look, think of someone from top cow comics Stryke Force or Colossus from Xmen.

Oh and I am looking for him to quickly get to his mothers speed and gradually start getting towards lightspeed. (although that is a couple of years down the track)

Before I forget...

I would really like for each player to try and create a few additional characters, namely some original villains... these villains can be just their codename & generic overview of who they are, their powers/abilities and how they operate. since we've got some really good source material from all the Superhero RPGs out there (Mutants & Masterminds, Champions, Icons, BASH, Villains & Vigilantes, ect) that have a massive amount of villains they've created for their universes to draw from you can easily chose one of these as the villains you would like to have as part of your characters supporting cast.

Since Brightwell is playing The Voice, the man (or woman, or secret council cabal), he's got a massive amount of bad guys, feme fatales, mercenaries, gang bangers, ect to draw from.

If Brightwell needs them, i can share the lists of villains that i've got to draw from for his game of chess that he'll be playing against all of us 'good guys.' :D

I'll post some of the badguys that i've created as well...

Hello everyone, sorry for the delay... got a few things that popped up and kept me too damn busy today... as soon as I get up in the morrow (Saturday 15 May) I'll create the OCC thread so everyone can post their character writeups (and if you have a general idea of what your character looks like, getting a pic that looks somewhat like your character... you can post it on the OCC page and when i get a chance i'll try and draw the characters), also I will be setting up the IC Thread with the first scene setting appointment.

Since Brightwell is playing the Voice, I'll get in touch with him and share the story idea with the badguys plans...

Kewl Beans! :) Does the suit look segmented, or one smooth line?

Segmented, so it allows him a full range of movement. It also gives partial protection from gunshot (small caliber only eg handgun) but mainly designed to reflect and protect against lasers and other light based weaponry.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to apoligize for not getting things set up yet... but i've been under the weather after the visit to my primary care physician at the VA last Thursday, I didn't expect the trip to have left me feeling like i had been beaten brutally by a bunch of bad guys! to say that i wish i had American Patriot's regeneration ability is an understatement! :)

Sadly everything between my shoulder blades to just below the knees feels... well, like crap. i've been flat of my back for the majority of this weekend, that i took the chance to re-read the V&V "Crisis at the Crusader Citadel" module that'll be used for getting us together as a team.

Use this thread for getting our characters ready for play, and then I'll set up the Out-of-Character thread so we can post the complete characters in the first posts, and combine them with info for the campaign in case we get new player interest as we go forward.

Hi all, just finished my character profile, if you guys have any opinions, feel free to send them my way :).

Wrath
Real Name: Gregory Williams
Other Aliases: none. Gender:male
Base of operations:Freedom City
Marital status: single. Orientation: heterosexual
Age:20. Height:180 cm. Weight: 105 kg
Eyes: blue. Hair: dark brown
Occupation: university student and bookshop owner (inherited from stepfather)
Physical appearance: fairly fit due to regular martial arts training. No real distinguishing features until the demonic integration begins, when a glowing satanic tattoo appears on his left arm and his eyes turn a glowing deep red.

Personality: normally quiet and reserved, doesn't talk much to people he doesn't know. He is fiercely loyal and protective to the people around him. At the age of 18 he was contacted by his real father, a demon of lust (an incubus), warning him that he would begin a transformation, that would change him depending on how he dealt with it. With the information, he received a pair of gauntlets, that would help him better understand and control the change. Over time, his personality merged with his demonic heritage, making him what he is.

Powers/skills: Demonic strength and speed, large black bat-like wings that expand from his back at a single thought, creation and control over fire. Enhance healing and stamina. He also has great martial arts skills that have merged with his demonic capabilities to make him dangerous in close quarters. The demonic side of him assures he has more to learn and experience yet......

Costume: Black leather pants, black combat boots and a black metal mask that covers down to his nose. He wears no top because of the wings and wears the black metal gauntlets with red satanic symbols that his real father gave him, to help better control his demonic "gifts".
