(I am seeking at least one female writer, but I would be open to making this a group thread if there is enough interest. Please PM me with character ideas.)
Edward Black is the oldest man alive -- if you can call him a man. Or alive, for that matter. He was born in the Scottish Highlands during the Dark Ages, trained in secret to become a demon hunter, eventually becoming a mentor himself. But a nefarious plot saw Edward impaled on a sword, a betrayal wrought by those he had deemed allies. He was not the only victim of this horrible tragedy, nor was this the end of his story.
As the cold grasp of death took him, Edward made peace with his fate and embraced the darkness. All was silent. Pain did not exist. Thought did not exist. And then, suddenly, it returned. His body ached, his blood on fire. As he writhed in agony, he felt his hands and feet restrained. He opened his eyes, but all he saw was red. He heard voices, chanting words he did not understand.
Screams erupted in the air, which Edward recognized as his own. His bones cracked. His flesh ripped. He felt his body changing, becoming something... demonic. And then a surge of energy rushed into him. Suddenly he was free of his restraints, and the chanting stopped. His vision cleared and he saw all those who had betrayed their order standing around him. He towered over them, their faces colorless and horrified. He found their terror pleasing as he conjured blue flames in his palms.
Edward relished in his new-found powers, leaving a trail of charred corpses behind him. He laughed manically as he floated down the corridor, until he passed by a tall mirror and caught a glimpse of his new form. His eyes grew wide, and he was suddenly aware of what he had become. His demeanor calmed considerably, and touched his feet to the floor, looking upon his glowing hands. And then he knew what he had to do.
"I shall cleanse this world of the taint of magic."

And so, Edward set out to destroy all magic in the world, good or evil. With every life he took, he grew stronger, but he also lost a little bit of his humanity. Over the years of bloodshed, he fueled many legends, and came to adopt one of the names scared villagers had given him -- the Hollow.
When his task was done, and all those with magic in their blood had been slain, the Hollow stood as darkness incarnate, all traces of Edward Black having faded away. He vanished into pure energy, watching from the shadows for any signs of the inevitable return of magic, so that he may snuff it out once more.
In modern day America, a young woman has just discovered she is the first mage in nearly a thousand years, her bloodline gradually gaining power over the centuries until it finally produced a full-fledged sorceress. Sensing her Awakening, the Hollow glided through the Astra -- a realm of pure energy overlaying the physical world -- and appeared before her, exiting through a bright blue rift.
"You shall perish, for I do not permit magic to exist!" he said in a calm yet booming voice with a ghostly echo. He raised a flaming hand to smite her, but when his eyes fell upon her face, a tiny sliver of his humanity surfaced, and he couldn't bring himself to destroy such a beautiful creature. He was conflicted, but the tiny part of Edward that had returned was enough for the flames to fade, and he stood before her in his naked, human form, an exact copy of the way he looked the day he died. His skin and hair were mopping wet with ectoplasm, and he suddenly looked confused and disoriented.

"Where.... where am I? What.... what is...." he staggered to the side, and then dropped to the ground, unconscious.
