To name a few... Blade Runner, Dark City, Brazil, A Clockwork Orange. Babylon 5, Firefly, Star Trek TOS, and others that I know will come to mind and I will think 'damn... duh... why didn't I mentioned that.'
Straczynski wrote Babylon 5, from beginning to end, before it was televised. It was meant to last 5 years. I have NEVER seen such amazing, complex character development in film or television! The series is mind blowing, poignant and very moving! The theme music was from Christopher Franke from Tangerine Dream. The Hugo awards created a category based on music because of Babylon 5's opening theme.
I hold that series far and above so many others. Battlestar Galactica is a close second.
As of late, Space Above and Beyond was quite interesting. Although many made fun of Farscape, the overall theme and how it was handled was pretty damn moving. I thoroughly enjoyed Lexx. Byron and I recently bantered about it. The series was odd and silly, but definitely had its moments!
