The public television stations in the U.S. pick up all the BBC has-beens because they're relatively inexpensive compared to newer original productions. Hundreds of 1980-2005 vintage BBC program(me)s appear. The same core group of actors and actresses repeatedly show up onscreen.
Mr. Bates of Downton Abbey was in _____. The woman in Chef now appears in Outnumbered. The priest in Ballykissangel shows up in DCI Bank. Sargeant Lewis of Inspector Morse shows up in (guess what) Inspector Lewis ( ol' Morse sure did treat Lewis as a cognitively-deficient peon; if Lewis had any self-respect, he had every reason to tell Morse to stick it where the sun doesn't shine).
Notwithstanding the fact that some of them are horribly dated, they are still preferable to being assaulted by U.S. television with its commercial messages every 8 minutes which question my virility, tell me that my breath stinks, that my identity is mixed up with the automobile I drive and that I will be rich and happy if I dial a certain toll-free telephone.
